Some news on McCarthy

Durrett has the news on McCarthy's MRI:

The initial diagnosis is that the club doesn't think anything is wrong with the ligament in RHP Brandon McCarthy's right forearm. He has severe inflammation of the forearm with some fluid in there. The Rangers are still discussing how to treat the injury.

I'm not a doctor, but that sounds like it is sort of good news...

You snuck this up while I was typing up my own diary on the same subject!

Oh well, I used a link to TR Sullivan's blog anyway, not Durrett, so at least there's some difference.

You're right, that does sound like good news - but you still gotta wonder whats been causing the inflammation and fluid buildup, too. The bottom line is, they still don't know what's wrong, they're just pretty sure he won't need Tommy John surgery.

Not good
what happened to BMac getting stronger?

fluid is not good
the reason you get fluid build-up is because the body is trying to heal an injury

anyone ever had a sever sprained ankle - the reason it swells is there is often a torn ligament somewhere and the body is doing it's best to heal itself.

besides - if there really is inflammation and fluid it compromises the quality of the MRIs and any other type of imaging.

it could be tendinitis, but then you have to ask what he's been doing all offseason that his arm is reacting like this to activity.

that doesn't mean it's a disaster either, but fluid is usual not good.

Rangers don't need a fifth starter until 4/12
That gives the Rangers one month to get McCarthy healthy and up to speed. Probably not going to happen, but a mid-to-late April return isn't out of the question.

Since nothing appears to be structurally wrong, the only thing the Rangers can really do is allow him to rest. And wait.

I still don't like it...
"severe inflammation of the forearm with some fluid in there" does not sound good to me. Neither does the fact the the team is still "discussing how to treat the injury".

As simplesimon said, this could be tendinitis or something else that could linger around. I also am not a doctor, but I'm guessing this could last for awhile, I hope I'm wrong.

Metcalf
if he is injured long term and given blalock's car accident, that utility IF position becomes pretty important to start the season.  So, does Wash go with duran, vasquez, or roberts?  You have to carry 2 out of those three right?

by ab03 on Mar 9, 2008 12:17 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

no...
Vazquez or E. Alfonso can cover any infield position.

Edgardo Alfonzo
Cannot play shortstop. These days, he can barely play second base.

I'd just as soon see the Rangers try to convert Travis Metcalf into a middle-infielder if they're going to put Alfonzo on the roster.

But really, the only reason ALfonzo is even being considered as having a shot at the team is becuase Ron Washington likes him.

Hey
you forgot the period after "play". It should be "These days, he can barely play."

Best case
Lets hope he comes back in a month and looks good and then JD can trade him and recover what we gave up to get this joker here.
There are always going to be injury issues with this guy and also he is a head case who does not like heat, cold, rain and wind.
What if we have to play games in OCT. and it is cold and rainning, well I guess we have to scartch him and find someone else to pitch.

He never had
injury problems in Chicago only last year and now this. I'm sure you don't like things. He never said he would or couldn't pitch in weather like that.

If he had been drafted by the Rangers and had a minor league career here like he did in Chicago you would have creamed your pants counting the days before he got to the big club.

Orkin man I thought we traded for him because he was major league ready not that he had a steller minor league stats for CWS.
Dude quit inhaling those poisons that you spray.

LOL
When healthy last year was he not Major League ready? Shit happens dude move on. You can't judge this trade going by last years stats or this years stats for that matter. I think BMac is a better pitcher IMO. I think Danks was a bad fit for TBiA.

Keep posting "pet"afile I have other things to do today.

Weeds4
Terminex guy how can a potional lefthander ace be a bad fit for the Rangers?
It is not like we got a established starter for Danks,No we got a injury prone head case.
Good like on trying to get Arnold to be spokeperson given your limited budget for advertizing.

Ok one more post
You think Danks is a #1 really a staff ace, a true #1 like Santana, Peavy, Halliday and the likes? Maybe you are the one who needs to step away from the can of Raid and quit huffing.

Weedeater dude I never said Danks was ready to be an ace,I said he was the future ace.
Even as things are today I would rather have Danks than Chan Ho Park Jr.
