Evan Grant on the opener
Evan Grant has a blog entry up with his thoughts on the season opener...
He likes what he saw from Kevin Millwood, is not so sanguine about Franklyn German...

K Mill
Should have stayed in the game. Only 91 pitches. It's ironic how he went out before the 7th a mere days after Washington stated that he expected to get 7 innings out of his starters.

He probably would have gone 7
if FOTF doesn't butcher the play.

Not too surprising
considering that he had given up a couple in the 6th (although obviously not totally his fault). Also, you don't want to blow out your pitchers in the first game. It allowed Wash to get him out of there on a positive note. If he went out there in the 7th and gave up a run or two and left with runners on, then our optimism would be dampened right now. I'm just glad he made it 6, I wasn't expecting that.

Millwood
My guess is that while the team has an eight man bullpen, they are not going to ride the starters too hard. Might as well take advantage of that extra arm out there while you can. It's early in the season, it was cold, it's not worth overworking Millwood this early. Just a thought.
But that river of tears has dried for all of us.

I think you are dead on
its a long season, and it gets even longer without a healthy Millwood.
Much better safe than sorry. If he can't go more than 6 in June I'm concerned. Not quite as concerned after the first game.

franklyn german
why is he on the team and tejeda isn't?

No more patience
I have not seen any quotes from the team directly saying as much, but it seems that the Rangers have no more patience for Tejeda.

I guess
I don't have much patience for pitchers with no command either, and both German and Tejeda are definitely in that group. But why choose the older guy with no projection, as opposed to the younger guy that has had some success as a starting pitcher in the ML at a young age?
Neither has much value, but a team desperate for arms and in rebuilding mode, would be much better off stockpiling Tejeda types and not messing around with German types IMO.

Clinton Roster updated
Jason freakin' Hart is back, bless him - playing 1B for Clinton - wow
No Moreland or Ortiz at 1B
No Johan Yan at 3B
OF is stacked - Cristian Santana listed as an OF'er
Catchers are Greene, new kid Felix and Carlos Dominguez [who he?]
Feliz, Fabio, Holland, Reed, Quintero, Tatusko - starters will come from that group
Sattler, Turner, Gomez and Lueke will anchor the pen it looks like
by shroomer on Apr 1, 2008 2:58 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Greene will play 3rd base, Fabio will start in the bullpen
according to the write-up on the roster.
Fabio can build up his innings slowly that way, I suppose. And Greene's been considered a 3Bman for a while now, IIRC, according to Jason Cole.
Ian Gac's 4th stint with Clinton. And of course Engel Beltre is there like we all figured.

Jason Hart
is on the 7-day DL - I wonder if this is a software glitch, or a procedural move or something

I understand
the best pitcher in the BP this spring issue, but was it wise to have an international free agent get his MLB trial by fire in that game?
Facing a team with two of his countries biggest baseball stars on it?
Pitching in front of a massive contingent of media from his native country?
...it's the weekend, so why the hell not?

Disagree on Bradley.
He was clearly hit by that pitch. If it hurts that ump's feelings when his bad call isn't well received by the player, he should get into another line of work. Bradley didn't say a word to him, and getting offended by the way the player gets rid of his bat is a rabbit-ear type of reaction.
Now if Bradley had called the ump a blind so and so, then I think EG has a point. But he didn't do that.

No, just the first month.
His career splits show him to be a .890+ OPS guy every other month.
I agree with you though that he will likely be grossly overpaid. I expect a guy making the money he will make to play at a Hall of Fame level. I don't think he'll do that. He'll be a top 5 or so 1B though.

Sorry, but your predictions are dangerous, dude. You clearly have some kind of supernatural jinx/anti jinx power, but you just can't seem to harness it!
