But when you don't have a defensive position you might want to mix in something other than a single to your repetoire

to answer your question
My family was family-friends with the Valentines, of the Bobby persuasion. He was fired, but my brother and I stuck with them.
My father passed away when I was 8
a few months later, Bobby showed up in Milford and held a baseball clinic for younger kids. The purpose was to raise money for my family.
We never asked him to do it, he just did it. He's a great human being.
Wha happen?
to the rest of your post...I just read something about a baseball clinic. Then it was gone?
...it's the weekend, so why the hell not?
weird...

weird....totally
Very cool of Bobby to do.
No wonder you hold allegience to the Rangers.
...it's the weekend, so why the hell not?
I remember
seeing him blow up at the grounds crew at old Cleveland Municipal Stadium one night. It had rained a lot before the game and the Rangers' dugout was filled almost completely with water. Bobby V taught me some words I had never heard before. Greatness.
There's one word that describes baseball - `You never know.' - Joaquin Andujar
I went to the Rangers game the day he got fired
Some people in the cheap seats at the old Arlington Stadium had a sign that read, "Hey, Bobby! Winn-Dixie's hiring!"
Ahhhhh nice.
That's pretty cool. I grew up as a kid going to games at old Arlington Stadium and I remember just waiting for a Bobby V. blowup.

defense
The outfield defense is definitely improved this year.
The infield, not so much ... hopefully they'll pull out of the defensive funk earlier this year. They have been katastrophically bad in nearly every game.
But it's refreshing to see some outfield D. When was the last time the Rangers had this kind of talent and depth in the outfield defensively?
Ummm......hold on.
I'll have the answer for ya in a bit.

Thats like 70 at bats
by a player who had barely played organized baseball in years. as far as im concerned he has no real history vs lefties. we will have to wait and see.

Couldn't be better

I abhor rap
but I was groovin' a bit on the old school stuff. Plus, I love Donny Doo.

I thought it was the best show thus far. Hopefully they get a little acoustic douche going tonight.
well admittedly
i didnt really listen. i left the ticket on as it started, couldnt figure out why rap was on, and turned it off 10 minutes in.
i listened to a lot of the alien bit last night. that was...interesting.

botts
all i ask is that he be given the same amount of time in the majors as cruz was before passing judgement
botts has a track record in the minors of being slow, then figuring out the level and being solid. I can only hope that if they fall out of contention early he gets more chances in the field and at dh

My guess
Nippert goes on waivers on Saturday to make room for Mendoza.
Rupe gets sent down on Monday to make room for Murray.
Murray is sent down on Tuesday, and Loe, Littleton or Francisco comes up.

Well...
They probably figure he's got a decent chance of clearing waivers.
by Adam J. Morris on Apr 10, 2008 9:24 PM CDT up reply actions
What I would do
Already put this somewhere else but I would push Mendoza back to Monday and start Rupe on Saturday. For one we play the Angels on Monday and I would much rather have a full time starter facing them than a spot guy. It may throw off Mendoza a little but thats a risk you have to take.
i mean
say what you want but broussard is clearly a better defender than botts. there's no question
scap load or die
broussard
i wouldnt say he's much better, especially considering how little botts has played first the past few years

botts isnt bad for a guy whos not played first recently.
and from what ive seen this season broussard isnt good enough defensively to be a "Defensive replacement" for anyone

is Antione Wright is a 23 year old athletic shooting guard that is shooting over 50 percent from 3 pointers with us.
His field goal percentage is around there as well.
His defense is also really good, so what is your argument?
He is younger than Devin Harris.

I don't see that either of those guys are necessarily better given recent performance and the fact that Wright had piched a solid 1.1 innings already. It may not have been your choice, but I wouldn't say it was a bad choice.
by Randy Richardson on Apr 10, 2008 9:41 PM CDT up reply actions
How is Guardado not better than Wright?
Again, those two (Guardado and Fuku) are supposed to be in the bullpen to be called upon in those exact situations. There is absolutely no way you can tell me they should not have been in the game instead of Wright.
had you just watched
the previous 2 innings, Wright was doing well and Wash decided to go with the guy with the hot hand. I understand that you would have done differently - that's your opinion.
by Randy Richardson on Apr 10, 2008 9:45 PM CDT up reply actions
Yes
And it's the rational opinion - and Wright should have been gone after the leadoff double. Washington didn't even have a contingecy plan up in the bullpen. It's just bad managing, by a bad manager.

He
has been trying to be more efficient as far as throwing pitches. He is not try to get too cute instead just throw strikes and let the batters get themselves out.
"Why do you think you're baseball jesus?" AirJordan to LonestarJon
Yep
I'd rather have effiency from my closer, so he can pitch on back to back days (or in this case, back to back games) than a ton of strikeouts. As long as he's recording outs, and not allowing a ton of baserunners, I'm happy.
and I don't disagree
I'd seen all the reports of pitching efficiency, him trying to conserve pitch counts etc. - just wonder if he's going to go from a strikeout per inning average down to like a strikeout every 3rd appearance...that's all

Surely this has been discussed
a million times before, but it drives me crazy how Wins are determined for relief pitchers. I understand the way it works, but how can it be justified that Jamey Wright gets a Win tonight?
I know it is futile to even think about it, but you would think there could be a way to keep something like that from happening. He gave up the lead, he didn't win the game.
Ok, End Rant.

Relief Wins
If I'm not mistaken (don't have time now to look for the link), FJM did a piece on how ridiculous that stat (wins) is just for reasons like this.
It could have been somewhere else but I'm pretty sure it was FJM.
