Sickels with an AQA thread this afternoon
Speaking of John Sickels, he is doing an "All Questions Answered" thread today between 2 and 3 p.m. Central...
So if I didn't include your Rangers prospect question in the Q&A we did with Sickels, that went up today, you can pop over there and post it...

FYI
Tons of Rangers stuff so far, although not much that he didn't touch on in the chat here. He does think that of the minor leaguers out there he thinks Andrus is one of the two with the highest potential to be a leading base stealer in the majors.

If you had your choice
would you have rather traded Hurley or Volquez to the Reds?

Could you explain
why you think Volquez is better?

Adam,
How surprised were you that Tejeda cleared waivers and what sort of future do you think he might have as a reliever?

Betting on the Rangers
I bet $20 on the Rangers to win the World Series, while I was in Vegas last weekend. The odds I got were 100:1
I was happy to see the sweep yesterday. Keep it going.

Arias
Calling this guy a bust out of hand is ludicrous.
The player is 23 years old. All year, he will be 23 years old. All you have to know is, he's 23 years old.
You'd think he was trying to break into the Mickey Mouse Club.

Brian's question about Salty
I hope that Sickels is an outlier in his estimation of Salty's trade value. I do think, though, that his value is a bit lower now than it was last summer. He didn't hit too well after he got here, but I think all the chatter about his defense and the Rangers messing around with him at 1B hurt his value more than some young player slumping in the batter's box. Not too smart on their part.
This is one reason I was ok with sending him to AAA. If he goes down there and hits like a fiend, and good reports are heard about his defensive work, his value goes back up. If he stinks, then the Rangers have zero leverage with either Lard or Salt. If he's good it helps the value of both.
He's hitting well. Expect to start hearing praise from team officials about his defensive work by early to mid May.
A working class hero is something to be.

I'm curious
as to why you think Saltalamacchia is the one on the block right now, or that he will reach the block at all. As the centerpiece of the Teixeira deal, he's probably got some added importance from a PR standpoint, not to mention he's just a straight-up better player than Laird and will be cheaper too for the team's target dates of competition. I'm not saying that him getting moved is impossible, but I think the fact that all that press came out about working on his defense shows that the team is committed to him long-term.
On another note, I really hope John Sickles is right about Teagarden and he makes adjustments. Right now, he is not going well.

I didn't mean to imply
that he is definitely the one on the block. I'm just saying that sending him to AAA to work on things increases his value -- both to other teams and to the Rangers. They seem to be trying to hedge their bets and keep their options open and will trade whichever makes the most sense later.
