Feldman getting the start?
What jumped out at me is this quote from Daniels: "Toward the end of Spring Training something clicked with his new [three-quarter] arm slot," Daniels said. "We'd like to give him more time, but he's the best option we have right now."
The best option? What is he high? Is he seriously the best option? I really dont think so. Shit, Murray, Hurley, or Harrison could make that start. I understand that giving Hurley or Harrison the shot would use an option and I dont think that the team wants to do that due to this only being a spot start. However, why doesn't the Pirate get a look? Anybody? Im lost here.

You are lost...
did you see not only when Hurley and Harrison last pitched but what the results were?
It's a one start deal because of the DH yesterday, no biggie.

Actually I missed it but by the way you mention it, it must have been bad.
Im just saying, a kid from trip A should get a shot before Feldman. I cannot stand him. I think he is a spare part and will never amount to anything on this team. RA Dickey is a beter pitcher, imo.

I'm not a huge fan...
of Feldman either, but it's one start and I don't think it makes a big difference whether it's him or Murray.

I agree, but the point is, why in hell would Daniels make a point to say
he is the best option available? Granted, He has options, but they can't honestly be looking at him as a starter could they? I never saw enough in him to think he was more than a loogy.

Best Option
I don't think best option, in this case, means best pitcher or most potential. He's already on the 40 and has been to the show and has made some improvements this year that put him in a position to simply be the best option for a spot start.
why is it everything that I blog about you have to ask a question?
Why isnt he? Obviously JD has said they would like to give him more time, right? Why not a spare part like Ponson, or Patterson? Its not like they are a realistic long term option.
Adam loves him some Lard
Neither of those guys are on the 40
And Patterson hasn't even pitched in a minor league game yet.

haha
why is it that adam questions what you have to say? maybe you could try saying stuff that isn't so questionable. furhter, why are you upset by this?
scap load or die
I didn't realize that me thinking someone else deserves a spot start was questionable,
My bad. Im upset that Feldman, somehow, has found his way back to Arlington for one start. Im upset that Daniels seems to think this is our best option that we have. Thats all.

I was just trying to understand...
...why you feel Murray is a better option than Feldman right now.

he isn't...
...the majority of the Jays line-up bat right anyway.

Murray
Here's a fun fact: Murray actually has a much better career line against RHB.
RHB: .215/.308/.443 93 PA's
LHB: .308/.400/.692 30 PA's
Murray would be the better option to make the start, because he has more potential than Feldman. Feldman just doesn't have the stuff to be ML starter - on most staffs, he's a 6th or 7th starter. Murray probably doesn't have much different stuff than Kason Gabbard, but he still has more potential to be in the rotation someday than Feldman. That's why he should get the call, since his development is of more value to the org. than Feldmans.
Question for Baseball Jesus
"Feldman just doesn't have the stuff to be ML starter - on most staffs, he's a 6th or 7th starter."
How do you know this? Have you seen him start yet?
lepricon
I saw him pitch last season
Including with the new arm slot in September. And new arm slots can only do so much.
But since you seem to disagree, how about we hear why you think he has more potential than AJ Murray?
Feldman
I never suggested he had more potential than Murray. I wanted to know what you were basing your opinions on. You told me.
Personally, I don't think we can accurately formulate an opinion of Feldman as a starter until we actually witness Feldman as a starter. He was very successful as a starter in college and his first start in the minors was promising. Who knows, he might surprise us.
Also, new arm slots can do quite a bit for a pitcher especially if it allows for increased velocity or deception. The baseball Jesus should already know that.
lepricon
I know that
But this is Scott Feldman we're talking about here. Even if this transition to a starter works, he's probably not going to be good enough to stick in the big-league rotation long term. That's what I'm trying to say.

Because he's Scott Feldman
And he's not very good in comparison to some of the other starting prospects in the org.
Come on. Do you really think he's ever gonna make a big-league rotation? Really?
Again...
I'm not a big fan of Feldman, but we don't know shit about him as a starter until he gets a chance. Everyone was very disappointed by his performance last year, but he is still young and maybe he gets it turned around. Maybe not. Either way you need to start being a little more possitive about things and stop taking shots at every guy that someone mentions who is not named Josh Hamilton.
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
I don't take shots at everyone
I just take shots at the crappy players, like Cat, Laird, Byrd, Feldman, ext.
I realize Feldman is probably improved with the new arm slot, I'm just saying I don't think he can stick in the rotation. He should be moved back to the bullpen, where he'll have more value.
I don't konw
I know that, before 2007, he had a real nice track record as a reliever, and I find it hard to believe that a guy who was 24 at the end of last season and who, prior to his age 24 season, had produced pretty well at every level is suddenly worthless.

I had read that thread before but I forgot about it. I still don't quite get why that guy calls him that though.

Patterson and Ponson
they are both hurt.

my bad

For one start it doesnt really matter
feldman was a surprising choice though.
Gerald Laird is my hero.
Did you say the 40?
Hmm...what does the 40 do again?

Feldman has looked fantastic
He manhandled the Rangers in the exhibition game in Frisco. I would not count him out. And you'll find it hard to believe that this is the same guy you saw sidewinding last year.
