Laird
I’m listening to XM Radio’s fantasy baseball show, and the host just mentioned “Laird’s hot start” and how you should trade him now. I did a double take and looked him up. Huh – he does have a 103 OPS+ right now. You go Chunk!
What happened to my old signature?
4 for 39 w/ one double and 0 rbis outside of
that one game. you can take a chunk off anyones ops right now with one game, but not that much. of course, he did hit those HRs legitimately.
ben broussard didnt take long to get back under a .700 ops either.
now if only botts would take fewer called 3rd strikes….
sigh.
anyway… someone had to be responsible for that stolen base. was it established who for 100% sure? Just interested if MY not saying whose fault is him resisting throwing kinsler under the bus or not wanting to own up to it himself.
anyway hopefully seeing this slider throwing litsch guy twice in a week will allow the rangers to be ready for him. i could use a win.
Gerald Laird is my hero.
MY and Ian
I’m glad neither one stepped up to take/assign the blame. If it had been Ian, everyone here would be bitching about how Wash was supposed to improve Ian’s defense and is screwing it up. If it had been MY, everyone would bitch how not only does MY not have range, he doesn’t have a brain either. I like it this way.
What happened to my old signature?
Just means
“everyone here” can now do both, if they choose.
Personally, I don’t care who’s fault it was as long as they know what happened and don’t let it happen again.
It was left handed batter...
whose responsibility is it to cover usually in that situation? I thought it was the SS.

actually, the person covering the bag would depend on the pitch and the hitter
if millwood was throwing a fastball it’s possible Ian was supposed to cover. If it was an offspeed pitch no doubt MY is supposed to cover. My point being it’s not black and white based on the side of the plate the hitter is on. It’s based on several factors with pitch selection being a key.

the way i remember it in little league...
...if someone takes off from first, the rest of the infield screams… “RUNNER GOING!”
and then, your shortstop and second baseman would instinctively run to cover second.

signal
if you watch most games when there is a runner on first the SS and 2B will put the gloves over their face and one of them will either open his mouth or close his mouth and that is the signal as to who is covering. This should be an every pitch deal. That’s what makes it even worse.

well... you don't want to scream out loud in front of a near-empty stadium...
...it would look too… uncool…
footnote: i went to the first game of the double-header against the O’s… 4:00pm start… barely anybody in the stadium (remember: that was originally a night-game, and obviously… not a lot of people could show up since the time and date changed… with school and work and all).
attendance had to be less than 7,000 people… if that many…
and i love games like that… where there’s not a lot of people… and it’s generally quiet… that’s when i make it a point to listen to who’s calling for pop-ups… and if the manager says anything on a throw to first… or attempted steal…
it’s like… it’s unprofessional to be vocal.
and i scoff at that.

Worst part of the streak
is it happened at home after a nice .500 road trip. There are players on this team who have shown in the past they only seem to be able to hit in TBiA. Its a shame they didn’t step up.

I understand everyone's frustration ...
with the way this team is hitting with RISP, but I don’t think that carries near the weight that the mental errors do. Like Adam has said repeatedly, I think the RISP average will level out over the course of the year. So I’m not nearly as concerned about that.
Assuming that the team gets control of itself and quits making dumb plays, this team still has the talent to be competitive all season. Things look like hell right now because it’s April and everyone’s high expectations and hopes have taken a beating thus far. But it’s still too early to panic in my opinion. Give it until mid-May before you declare the season over.
Normally I figure
you have to give it til Memorial day to start firing people and trading and cashing in the season.
It would be fairly easy for this team to have a 3-4 game win streak and be right back in it.

Dammit, Cahill.
We’re agreeing on too much lately. It feels … awkward.
Can you take a shot at Young or something? :)
