And Wash
pwns the people who thought that moving JHam to RF was only to get Byrd more PT.
the truth.
Gabbard will pitch 7 strong innings tonight
and will get a lot of run support to break the 5 game losing streak. Hamilton will get his first two HR game for the Rangers and drive in 5. lol

wash sure does stick up for all of his players – Cat batting leadoff.
all in all, I like the lineup a lot. put kinsler in instead of cat and switch their orders and that’s what I want to see the rest of the year
scap load or die
Botts!!!
I’m so pumped.
And, btw, I think Cat needs to be hitting leadoff versus righties, with Kinsler 5th or 6th. Kinsler has too much power in him for leadoff, imo.

i could see it
he does like to swing for the fences – probably will want to do that even more on a PH opportunity
scap load or die
Damn
This game isn’t picked up by the FSN Alt channels…so I can’t watch it.
Extra Innings
Guess I’m going to get the Toronto feed then. I was just looking for another channel in extra innings that it was being shown on and there is only one tonight.
I like Josh and Tom, hope the Toronto guys are decent.

Is it just coincidence
that Botts is starting vs a RHP the day after JD supposedly had a post-game meeting with Wash yesterday?

You can't judge Botts on those AB's
He needs consistent at-bats, not to come into the game in a tough situation late in the game where the chances of him actually getting a hit are quite low.
I’m not saying those where good AB’s by Botts, but you can’t judge him on that.
Im not
Solely on those at bats but if you are the 25th man on the roster the way to earn more playing time is not to watch a called third strike as a pinch hitter late in the game.
True
But you can’t tell me Wash has given him enough playing time, considering how bad Catalanotto and Broussard have been.
What other time?
The only two lefty starters he has sat against that I can think of were Bedard on Opening Night and the Baltimore guy on the home opener. Im sorry but the 25th man on your roster should not play those games. Those are games your starters play regardless of matchups or splits. You can worry about those the other 160 games out of the year. Those are games your starters play.
Could he have been pinch hit a few other times sure but his defense always comes into mind when you do that. Do you sacrifice Broussards defense when the rest of the team has been awful just so Botts can get some ABs?
Broussard's D isn't that great
And yes, I would. Botts is supposed to be proving himself, he should get playing time even if he is defensively inferior.
Better than Botts
Its not Tex’s defense but Botts hasn’t played a professional game at 1B in over 3 years. So putting him in a late game situation isn’t the optimal playing time. The only ball hit his way this year he absolutely butchered. Not a bobble or flub but butchered.
And I am tired of hearing this crap about he should be handed playing time. Hes 28 not 24. He should earn his PT. Watching game ending called third strikes is not a way to earn PT. Sorry its just not
its BS to say he has to earn playing time
He earned his playing time the past few years when Nevin and Sosa were being thrown out there as the DH. He’s only 28 with this little experience in the Majors because the team thought they could get something out of those 2.
Sosa
I’ll give you Nevin but Sosa won that spot last year hands down. We were supposedly still in win now mode at the beginning of last year and Sosa came in after not playing baseball in over a year and had a monster spring and then followed it up with a pretty decent year. Had Botts hit with some power last spring then he may have won that job. But he didn’t and he didn’t deserve it. When he was handed playing time the last two months of the season he didn’t do anything with it then. If he was a gold glover or a .330 hitter I could excuse not hitting for power but a guy his size with little to no defensive ability needs to do more than have 75% of his career ML hits be singles.

Can't agree
If the ball wasn’t hit so hard then yeah but that was a line drive. The left fielder had the ball before Hank made it to 3rd base. Its too early to be doing that stuff IMO
Well
considering Hank ran like my Grandmother would run through mud if my Grandmother for some reason decided to run through some mud, and he still only got beat by a fraction of a step, I don’t think it was a bad idea to send the runner… unless our 3b coach had some idea of how slow Blalock has become. And why would a 3b coach want to have an idea of something like that?

you have to try getting that run in
2 outs, bottom of the lineup, lucked into a few of those hits. You have to give it a shot. Blalock just didn’t run fast enough.
So I'm sitting in Operations Management right now
Somebody clue me in to the major happenings of the game thus far.
okay, here it goes
Barajas sucks, Blalock sucks, Gabbard rocks, Botts sucks, Litsch is good but sucks
Okay
how can we watch the game on the Mix channel, but it’s blacked out when you go to the original channel? I don’t get that…
the truth.
Well, the one that went by Hank is excusable
This fast turf can really play hell with infielders that aren’t used to playing on artifical turf. But the first one, yeah, that shoulda been caught.
Just curious
Would tagging the runner out in that situation be the better move there rather than throwing to 1st? It was just kind of funny seeing the runner duck under Blalock’s arm as he threw to first.
I think with
2 outs you normally just take the out at first, unless maybe it’s a speedy runner

Umm... no
Cat has hit like crap the vast majority of the season so far, whereas Kinsler has been hot. No. Just no.
That's a cute nicnkame
Keep using it, it’s only gonna get funnier.
But, seriously, Cat’s patient style lends itself to leading off. I’d like to see him there against righties all season.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree
But here’s a question: how do you propose we get him in the lineup with Bradley and Hamitlon taking up time at DH, and the fact Cat cannot play LF anymore?
Well
I don’t think it’s a fact that Cat can’t play LF anymore. He’s not good out there, but he’s passable. For now he should be in a platoon with Byrd out there when Bradley’s at DH, and at DH when Bradley is in the field. So, basically the same exact way we’ve been getting him AB’s up to this point.

They keep saying its the turf, but its hard watching this defense actually get to the ball and screw it up from there.

Blalock showing a good glove for the most part
For those not watching, Botts had what might have been a bit of a defensive blunder. Wasn’t on the bag and had to tag the runner out at first.
You thought correct, sir.
That wasn’t a Botts blunder, it was Botts making a good play and saving a throwing error.
I thought that was a good play by Botts, myself
Better than him staying on the bag, and the ball getting away.
Yay. We kept Scrappy off the bases.

Hey now.
We’re playing in Canada. If you MUST use a foreign language, make it French.
I don't see moving him between CF and RF
There’s not much difference between playing the positions stress-wise, and Hamilton has said he’s still learning the wind drifts at the RBiA – why have him bouncing between positions?
That's a retarded
thing to be arguing about. In TBiA, it definately helps him to play the much shorter RF.
Why?
Do you really think it’s a good idea to have him bouncing between positions if he hasn’t figured out CF yet?
Yes
because he has a history of injuries. Yes, because he’s still getting 4 starts a week in CF. Yes because it does take less stress to play the position. Seriously, stop stressing about retarded shit.
The whole thing about
having to back up the play still stands. CF generally have to move more than RF.
I think you're
making something out of nothing. He played about a dozen games in RF for CIN last year
by Randy Richardson on Apr 16, 2008 7:42 PM CDT up reply actions
Its pretty simple
The CF has to run somewhere on just about every ball put in play. Whether it be to a gap or to back up and outfielder or just toward a groundball. The RF pretty much only concerns himself with balls to the right side of play. It would be different if he was alternating days in each but as it is he has played what 3 games in right so far?

So, I believe Wash needs to answer
why the F* Botts hasn’t gotten any DH at bats this year. Shoddy managing.
Come on
that’s ridiculous. He showed very little last year and he was beat out by new acquisitions this year. He made the team, and now that he’s hitting, he’ll get more PT. What more do you ask for
new aquisitions?
He was beat out by Ben Broussard? If getting beat out is out hitting your competition, then yeah, you are right.
What new aquisitions beat him out? Cat has gotten the majority of the ABs at DH this year, and Cat sure didn’t beat him out in ST.
And those other players
have had great individual games too. Trying to argue that one game shows anything more than the dangers of small sample size is pretty stupid. Too many players, too little positions. Despite what people clamour for, you can’t just sit guys like Cat or DFA him.

Botts
His position is DH. Bradley is the starting DH on most nights until his knee is 100%. He hadn’t played 1B as a professional in over 3 years before this year. So yeah Broussard beat him out. Hopefully tonight will get him some of those DH ABs but until tonight he hadn’t earned anything. And nobody on this team should be handed anything especially the 25th man on your roster.

Mulliniks, drives me nuts with his nattering on and on and on….then he says, “to complete that thought”! LOL
Seriously?
The play-by-play guy sounds Super Canucky to me.

Maybe it's because
they hang out with Canucks all the time. I find that sometimes people adopt local dialetcs if they’ve been there long enough.
I lived in England for a year in my 20's
and quickly absorbed the accent. Didn’t lose it until a few months after returning to the states…
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
I was in Boston for 4 days
I said “beeahr” once. GF looked disgusted at me and asked if I was trying to do the accent. I wasn’t. Just drunk.
What happened to my old signature?
I prefer them in the sport of hockey...
my favorite hockey saying, “a real scorcher!” in a Canadian accent cracks me up every time I hear it

FOTF
Here’s your chance to prove you’re still clutch. If you don’t hit here, then you need to make sure your car has an automatic transmission because you can’t deal with clutch.
mrbluejay
How has the Blue Jays bullpen been worked the past couple of games? Are they pretty fresh for this 2 game series or are we facing all that they have left?
Franchise Face needs a hit here
Botts needs a run scored right here, and my AL-only fantasy team has had enough of your 0-for-4 ways
"Sabean did a good job on selling high on Liriano." -Excel Hearts Choi
that's decent logic...
nevermind the fact that we’d be up 3 more runs…AHHHH MIKE!!! he probably got pissed at Laird and was like, “THIS is how you put the ball in the air with a runner on third!”

Dammit.
Young is pressing. That was an awful pitch.
i called the Dunham and Miller morning show today...
...and tried explaining to them that the team was pressing.
Miller just snapped at me and hung up.

When Young is pressing, he swings at crap like that.
You’d think he’d learn how to relax after his April/May 2007 performance.
Piss in a jar
There is no such thing as global warming. David Murphy was cold, so he turned the sun up.
Damn you, Franchise Face
Damn you straight to hell.
Botts would’ve hit a 5-run dong right there.

Don't ask me why
But for some reason at first I took that literally and pictured Jason Kidd running around playing basketball on fire, and I definitely giggled.
I think all this beastliness from My Boy Botts has me a little loopy.

I loved that game
i remember dunking as Bill Clinton and thinking it was the coolest thing in the world.
Believe it or not...
...other than Littleton, Benoit, and Wilson, I don’t think there’s anyone out there I trust more than the Electrician right now.

I wouldn't
5 righties up in a row to start the 7th…get a RHP out there against them.

I'm really liking our outfield defense this season.
At least, I’m liking their range. They’ve made catches on balls in the alley or balls hit deep this season that they haven’t made in years.
good throws also...
...Marlon especially.
throw out at home in Anaheim…
throw out at third against the O’s. and the play against the O’s was critical. he didn’t get enough credit for that play.

well,
I already like Cat more than about anyone else here, so that’s just one more thing we can bond over
by Randy Richardson on Apr 16, 2008 8:10 PM CDT up reply actions
Screw the bats
We need to hold the lead right now. I’ll be nervous if Cat is still in LF the next half-inning.
Then we should probably
find someone to replace MY. LF isn’t exactly a demanding defensive position. Once again, stop sweeting the little stuff.
After yesterday,
it might be wise to let Byrd have the entire day off

Okay
Does anyone else watching the Canuckian feed of this game find those little intra-ining 5 second commercials they cut away to a little disconcerting?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.
I don’t like it.

And better quality of living
lower murder rates, better hunting grounds. If you’re White Collar and not a doctor, living in Canada is pretty fantastic.
and the crazy women
there are some seriously crazy chicks up there… lotsa fun.
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
I like these Canadian announcers
They seem more interested in the Ranger players than the Blue Jay players
Huh
These gameday threads start moving/loading for crap around 500 comments. Makes sense, just never noticed. Oh well, at least we’re interested. And redundant.
What happened to my old signature?
Accents.....I stand corrected!
Rance Mulliniks is from California and lives in the USA all year. He just does a few Jays games (mainly because he used to play 3rd base for the Jays).
I stand corrected, Jamie Campbell was born in Canada and is still a Canadian. My humble apologies
BTW, when an American says “out”, to Canadians it sounds like when one hurts himself and say “owwe” but with a “t” at the end and the letter “w” really drawn out.
