Gabbard will pitch 7 strong innings tonight

and will get a lot of run support to break the 5 game losing streak. Hamilton will get his first two HR game for the Rangers and drive in 5. lol

say what you will

wash sure does stick up for all of his players – Cat batting leadoff.

all in all, I like the lineup a lot. put kinsler in instead of cat and switch their orders and that’s what I want to see the rest of the year

Botts!!!

I’m so pumped.

And, btw, I think Cat needs to be hitting leadoff versus righties, with Kinsler 5th or 6th. Kinsler has too much power in him for leadoff, imo.

TEXAS 5, TORONTO 3

Texas…. – 0 0 1 1 0 1 0 2 0 // 5 – 8 – 1 – 7
Toronto. – 0 1 0 0 1 0 1 0 0 // 3 – 9 – 0 – 8

W: Benoit
L: Wolfe

HR: Kinsler, Catalonotto, Rios

Gabbard commits an error. Walks three.

I like Josh and Tom, hope the Toronto guys are decent.

Is it just coincidence

that Botts is starting vs a RHP the day after JD supposedly had a post-game meeting with Wash yesterday?

by Randy Richardson on Apr 16, 2008 6:20 PM CDT reply actions

hope not

I would love to know that JD told Wash he needed to play a player and Wash listened to him. Its going to matter a lot when we start bringing up more young guys.

by Gdawg on Apr 16, 2008 6:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Or

he hates guy who watch called 3rd strikes to end the game twice in three days

by bigsteve on Apr 16, 2008 6:24 PM CDT up reply actions

You can't judge Botts on those AB's

He needs consistent at-bats, not to come into the game in a tough situation late in the game where the chances of him actually getting a hit are quite low.

I’m not saying those where good AB’s by Botts, but you can’t judge him on that.

by LSJ on Apr 16, 2008 6:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Im not

Solely on those at bats but if you are the 25th man on the roster the way to earn more playing time is not to watch a called third strike as a pinch hitter late in the game.

by bigsteve on Apr 16, 2008 6:27 PM CDT up reply actions

True

But you can’t tell me Wash has given him enough playing time, considering how bad Catalanotto and Broussard have been.

by LSJ on Apr 16, 2008 6:28 PM CDT up reply actions

What other time?

The only two lefty starters he has sat against that I can think of were Bedard on Opening Night and the Baltimore guy on the home opener. Im sorry but the 25th man on your roster should not play those games. Those are games your starters play regardless of matchups or splits. You can worry about those the other 160 games out of the year. Those are games your starters play.

Could he have been pinch hit a few other times sure but his defense always comes into mind when you do that. Do you sacrifice Broussards defense when the rest of the team has been awful just so Botts can get some ABs?

by bigsteve on Apr 16, 2008 6:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Broussard's D isn't that great

And yes, I would. Botts is supposed to be proving himself, he should get playing time even if he is defensively inferior.

by LSJ on Apr 16, 2008 6:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Better than Botts

Its not Tex’s defense but Botts hasn’t played a professional game at 1B in over 3 years. So putting him in a late game situation isn’t the optimal playing time. The only ball hit his way this year he absolutely butchered. Not a bobble or flub but butchered.

And I am tired of hearing this crap about he should be handed playing time. Hes 28 not 24. He should earn his PT. Watching game ending called third strikes is not a way to earn PT. Sorry its just not

by bigsteve on Apr 16, 2008 6:36 PM CDT up reply actions

its BS to say he has to earn playing time

He earned his playing time the past few years when Nevin and Sosa were being thrown out there as the DH. He’s only 28 with this little experience in the Majors because the team thought they could get something out of those 2.

by Gdawg on Apr 16, 2008 6:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Sosa

I’ll give you Nevin but Sosa won that spot last year hands down. We were supposedly still in win now mode at the beginning of last year and Sosa came in after not playing baseball in over a year and had a monster spring and then followed it up with a pretty decent year. Had Botts hit with some power last spring then he may have won that job. But he didn’t and he didn’t deserve it. When he was handed playing time the last two months of the season he didn’t do anything with it then. If he was a gold glover or a .330 hitter I could excuse not hitting for power but a guy his size with little to no defensive ability needs to do more than have 75% of his career ML hits be singles.

by bigsteve on Apr 16, 2008 6:41 PM CDT up reply actions

atta boy Hank

Time for Botts to earn some more playing time with a big hit here.

by Gdawg on Apr 16, 2008 6:24 PM CDT reply actions

Sure

Im just happy they are getting him ready to come up to Arlington. When he does come up it will most likely be as a 4th outfielder so more experience as a COF can’t be a bad thing can it?

worth the risk

there’s 2 outs, LF is normally an IFer, and the #9 batter is coming up

by Randy Richardson on Apr 16, 2008 6:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Can't agree

If the ball wasn’t hit so hard then yeah but that was a line drive. The left fielder had the ball before Hank made it to 3rd base. Its too early to be doing that stuff IMO

by bigsteve on Apr 16, 2008 6:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Well

considering Hank ran like my Grandmother would run through mud if my Grandmother for some reason decided to run through some mud, and he still only got beat by a fraction of a step, I don’t think it was a bad idea to send the runner… unless our 3b coach had some idea of how slow Blalock has become. And why would a 3b coach want to have an idea of something like that?

you have to try getting that run in

2 outs, bottom of the lineup, lucked into a few of those hits. You have to give it a shot. Blalock just didn’t run fast enough.

Would tagging the runner out in that situation be the better move there rather than throwing to 1st? It was just kind of funny seeing the runner duck under Blalock’s arm as he threw to first.

But, seriously, Cat’s patient style lends itself to leading off. I’d like to see him there against righties all season.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree

But here’s a question: how do you propose we get him in the lineup with Bradley and Hamitlon taking up time at DH, and the fact Cat cannot play LF anymore?

by LSJ on Apr 16, 2008 7:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Well

I don’t think it’s a fact that Cat can’t play LF anymore. He’s not good out there, but he’s passable. For now he should be in a platoon with Byrd out there when Bradley’s at DH, and at DH when Bradley is in the field. So, basically the same exact way we’ve been getting him AB’s up to this point.

I don't see moving him between CF and RF

There’s not much difference between playing the positions stress-wise, and Hamilton has said he’s still learning the wind drifts at the RBiA – why have him bouncing between positions?

by LSJ on Apr 16, 2008 7:39 PM CDT up reply actions

That's a retarded

thing to be arguing about. In TBiA, it definately helps him to play the much shorter RF.

by FirebatM3 on Apr 16, 2008 7:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Why?

Do you really think it’s a good idea to have him bouncing between positions if he hasn’t figured out CF yet?

by LSJ on Apr 16, 2008 7:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Yes

because he has a history of injuries. Yes, because he’s still getting 4 starts a week in CF. Yes because it does take less stress to play the position. Seriously, stop stressing about retarded shit.

by FirebatM3 on Apr 16, 2008 7:43 PM CDT up reply actions

And Narron

said that he wished he put him in right more last year.

by FirebatM3 on Apr 16, 2008 7:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Its pretty simple

The CF has to run somewhere on just about every ball put in play. Whether it be to a gap or to back up and outfielder or just toward a groundball. The RF pretty much only concerns himself with balls to the right side of play. It would be different if he was alternating days in each but as it is he has played what 3 games in right so far?

by Garcia on Apr 16, 2008 7:49 PM CDT reply actions

Come on

that’s ridiculous. He showed very little last year and he was beat out by new acquisitions this year. He made the team, and now that he’s hitting, he’ll get more PT. What more do you ask for

by FirebatM3 on Apr 16, 2008 7:50 PM CDT up reply actions

new aquisitions?

He was beat out by Ben Broussard? If getting beat out is out hitting your competition, then yeah, you are right.

What new aquisitions beat him out? Cat has gotten the majority of the ABs at DH this year, and Cat sure didn’t beat him out in ST.

by Garcia on Apr 16, 2008 7:52 PM CDT up reply actions

And those other players

have had great individual games too. Trying to argue that one game shows anything more than the dangers of small sample size is pretty stupid. Too many players, too little positions. Despite what people clamour for, you can’t just sit guys like Cat or DFA him.

by FirebatM3 on Apr 16, 2008 7:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Because

he has historically been a very good player and benching him because of 30 ABs is retarded.

by bigsteve on Apr 16, 2008 7:58 PM CDT up reply actions

Botts

His position is DH. Bradley is the starting DH on most nights until his knee is 100%. He hadn’t played 1B as a professional in over 3 years before this year. So yeah Broussard beat him out. Hopefully tonight will get him some of those DH ABs but until tonight he hadn’t earned anything. And nobody on this team should be handed anything especially the 25th man on your roster.

I have a feeling he will be very unclutch right now

Maybe it's because

they hang out with Canucks all the time. I find that sometimes people adopt local dialetcs if they’ve been there long enough.

Yep

I spent my childhood in Texas and most of my teenage and adult years in the Midwest, I’ve been told by my old friends that my accent sounds different.

I’ve also been told by my cousins that I speak Chinese as a foreigner would.

I was in Boston for 4 days

I said “beeahr” once. GF looked disgusted at me and asked if I was trying to do the accent. I wasn’t. Just drunk.

Here’s your chance to prove you’re still clutch. If you don’t hit here, then you need to make sure your car has an automatic transmission because you can’t deal with clutch.

How has the Blue Jays bullpen been worked the past couple of games? Are they pretty fresh for this 2 game series or are we facing all that they have left?

Franchise Face needs a hit here

Botts needs a run scored right here, and my AL-only fantasy team has had enough of your 0-for-4 ways

nevermind the fact that we’d be up 3 more runs…AHHHH MIKE!!! he probably got pissed at Laird and was like, “THIS is how you put the ball in the air with a runner on third!”

I'm really liking our outfield defense this season.

At least, I’m liking their range. They’ve made catches on balls in the alley or balls hit deep this season that they haven’t made in years.

Accents.....I stand corrected!

Rance Mulliniks is from California and lives in the USA all year. He just does a few Jays games (mainly because he used to play 3rd base for the Jays).

I stand corrected, Jamie Campbell was born in Canada and is still a Canadian. My humble apologies

BTW, when an American says “out”, to Canadians it sounds like when one hurts himself and say “owwe” but with a “t” at the end and the letter “w” really drawn out.
