Whew
I don't know how long I would have laid awake tonight, pissed off, if the Rangers had lost this.
Wes Littleton is a beast. And Josh Hamilton is a beasticon.

we have to keep him...right?
sign him to an extension? he’s our second best offensive player. hands down.

I don't think we have to keep him.
While he is currently the rangers 2nd best hitter if not the best, I don’t think talking extension with MB is a good idea. He’s got a pretty extensive injury history, having only played over 100 games twice(101 & 141). He does have some characters/clubhouse issues and is considered slightly nutty. He’s never reached 20 HRs or 70 RBIS. I think it’s way to early to talk extension.
I’d try to re-sign him if he can bed had with the above reasons taken into consideration. But if he’s looking for a GMJ deal or even a Andruw Jones deal I think we should pass. He’ll probably net us a 1st round pick after all and that’s pretty worthwhile in itself.

That was one helluva game
Although I don’t think I could have stood another loss.

Toronto's
we used ours perfectly – although it would’ve been nice if Benoit hadn’t gone crazy on us. suppose it’s OK, though, that he pulls one of these out after his perfection up to the point…

I wouldn't say we used our 'pen perfectly
I’d just say it performed perfectly. Ron Washington shoulda pulled Benoit a lot earlier than he did – if he had, we might not have needed to go 14 innings. But aside from that, the bullpen performance was superb. Even German and Nippert where solid.

see I'd rather have Jack Benny in there than some other bullpen arm
unless it’s CJ you replace him with. I am fine with leaving him in there. Random bad performance by him, and I thought he got jipped on that last walk – should’ve been a strikeout.

seemed like neither team really wanted to win. 5 walks, kudos to Bradley.

Blalock
If he does need to go on the DL, there is no one on the 40 man roster to take his place with Metcalf injured and Arias unable to play the field.
Just thinking off the top of my head, they might try to DFA Fukumori – I believe since he has options he can be outrighted if he clears waivers. With his 1.4M salary he would probably make it through. This would make room for Duran or Roberts as the two most likely replacements. Any thoughts?

Gah
I’d just as soon see them DFA Nipple.

Guy pitched well and has excellent stuff...
if he can learn to harness it. Why would anyone want to DFA the one guy on the staff who’s stuff can rival CJ’s?
Fukumori? Yes. German. Sure.
But this team needs to keep Nippert and Rupe for the whole season.

So does that make Broussard the AntiBeast?
That guy is awful. Why is he still on this roster? Put Botts at first or call Salty up to do the job. Neither of those guys can be any worse defensively or at the plate than Brouturd.

If BB is gonna fling baseballs like horseshoes all over the place… hell, Salty can do that, and with a better bat in the lineup.

If BB is not on the roster...
...who is Washington going to put in for Botts when he yanks him in the 6th during the best game of his career?

SALTY
IS NOT A 1B!!!!! FORGET WHAT HE PLAYED LAST YEAR HE IS A CATCHER. WE HAVE A 1B FOR THE FUTURE NOT FAR AWAY. SALTY IS A CATCHER.
Its alot easier writing his name down as a 1B than him actually going out there and playing a positionhe has played only a handful of times as a professional. I want to see Salty up here just as bad as anyone else but right now he is where he probably should be at this point in his development. Tearing up AAA and fine tuning his catching skills. He will be up here soon. Probably before the AS break but when he comes it will be behind the plate and thats it. No 1B and maybe an occasional DH but 95% of his starts will be at catcher.

vasquez
have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of him if the bank goes to the DL
personally I’d like to see Salty up but that wouldn’t really solve anything unless we could trade Laird for David Wright.

that made me throw up a little bit in my mouth
maybe it’s just me, but I’d much rather sign Milton to a 3 year deal with incentives for finishing X amount of games in each year, and Y amount of games total after 3 years, etc.

Two things
He’s very likely to be a type A free agent, and it’s very likely a team would offer him arb this time, so you run the risk of losing your first or second round pick… though it’s unlikely we’ll be good enough to be in danger of losing the first.
And you also run the risk of having the team you trade him to overwhelm him with an offer and sign him to an extension before he hits free agency.
If you like the guy and you want to sign him to an extension, just sign him to the extension.

and personally, I do.
look – if we had 2 established outfielders (Hamilton is one, but we don’t have another – much as I like Murph, he can’t be relied on yet), I’d trade him in a heartbeat.
but the fact is, outside of Josh, we have no reliable outfielders and not much coming up through the pipeline. Sure the idea of Boggs as a .275/.375/.450 guy in center with Josh in right and a free agent in LF is tantalizing. But with Milton, you know you’ll get .300/.385/.475 when he’s healthy. If you think he may not ever get you more than 400 at bats, and there’s a free agent out there or a trade acquisition that can come close to those numbers, trade him. personally, I think he’s more valuable to our club if we want to contend in a year or two like the plan calls for…and if we do happen to stumble upon 2 more quality outfielders by then, he becomes a VERY good DH

Littleton’s exploding glove play made #4 on top 10 plays…
Also it was apparently the first time the side had been struck out consecutively in extra innings with the bases loaded since 1960.. or something, might have heard that wrong.

Made it to the 13th inning last night
Woke up, got to start my day off right with some tivo magic.
I think Benoit’s line looks alot worse than he actually pitched.
I was watching the Toronto feed. I think those guys said about 5 words after the last out. Heh.

Botts has arrived...
Between JD’s “talk” with Wash, Botts getting a couple big hits yesterday, and BB striking out on 3 pitches everytime he faces a lefty, Botts will be getting more playing time now.
Oh and I don’t think BB is much of a defensive upgrade over Botts at 1B either.
Nice effort by the pen (except Jack) as well. Wes is not going down this weekend when Eddie G comes back. My guess now would be Rupe.
In other news, every other post in the game threads is still “that was Wash’s fault”. I’ve never seen a fan base that thinks the manager is this important to the outcome of a single game. The only thing I would have done different yesterday was kept Botts in and held back Ian longer than when he PH. Many LSBers have already made up their mind that he needs to go and no matter what he does, right or wrong, they will knock him. If a player does well then the player gets the credit. If he sucks it up or makes a error then it’s Wash’s fault…meh.

Ehh
Those decisions I actually think were the right ones at the time. Kinsler was PH because they brought in a lefty and Wash was playing matchups and the Botts one was right at the time as well. We were up 2 runs in the 8th inning and Botts’ spot in the order shouldn’t have come up again once much less 2-3 times. As much as people bag on Broussard he is the better defender and throughout his career has never had more than 7 errors in a season. Personally I chalk that up to another case of bad luck for our club and hindsight is always 20/20 but at the time it looked to be a smart decision.

My feeling after this game is that it averted a disastrous April
for at least one more day.
I’m not sure it’s a spring board win, but I think if they had lost that game it would’ve been hard for the players to not think “here we go again, out of it by April”. This win is more like getting just enough strength to keep the boulder from running down the hill for just one more day.
In that sense, I suppose it is a character win.
