German Duran, Texas Ranger
Evan Grant reports that German Duran is being called up for tonight's game, and will play third base, with Marlon Byrd going to the d.l.
Surprised Byrd is getting d.l.'d, but that might help explain why he's been doing so poorly of late. And if there's an area where the Rangers have a surplus, it is in 4th outfielders.
Grant also mentions that Jason Botts is starting for the second day in a row...its a Festivus miracle!

Surplus of 4th OFs?
Only if you count the guy without an arm, and the guy who might as well not have a glove.
At least it forces either Cat and Botts into the lineup.

Byrd is injured
Cat and Botts are only OFs in the loosest definition of the term. You might as well call them both 2B as OFs.

Nice
Right around the time all the young talent is ready to contend is when the organization will realize that Ron Washington is the wrong man for the job.

He didn't say
we had a surplus of “really good” OFs. If there was an expendable position on the bench, it’s OF. Even our DH is an OF when healthy.

I'm not going to lie
I stood up after reading this news and did a little dance. It was sort of a white-boy-trying-to-do-the-zombie-dance-from-Thriller kind of dance. I think it was probably pretty sweet to watch.

So, who goes off the 40?
Loe? Metcalf to the 60-day?
Broussard? (heh, just kidding, not likely though it wouldn’t put me out.)

Metcalf to the 60 day
That would be my guess.

Metcalf
If he is on the 15 day DL why did we risk losing either Cruz and/or Tejeda to waivers if we could have kept them by simply moving him earlier? Granted everything turned out good but thats kinda curious
by bigsteve on Apr 17, 2008 3:37 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Because...
...both Tejeda and Cruz were out of options, so they had to be put on waivers to go to the minors anyway.

botts
i like that hes starting 2 days in a row, but i dont have much faith that wash will leave him in the entire game unless he is the dh

Now I really want to watch every inning of tonights game and with it being Halladay v. Padilla it could get ugly again.

In light of the festivus miracle, what time are we airing our grievances? Need to make sure I’m here.

Finally I get my 2nd backup infielder
I predicted last night when Kinsler came into the game in the 6th inning that there would be a problem if one of our infielders went down later. Which happened with Hank.
Lets see how my Weatherford guy does now!

Thomas Diamond has been placed on the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster for infielder German Duran

Good for German Duran
I’m excited. Very excited.
Since Byrdman is on the DL though, I suppose this means Hank is only day-to-day, and Duran’s stay will be a short one…

Rotoworld -
has some criticism of JD:
Rangers recalled RHP Thomas Diamond and placed him on the 60-day disabled list following Tommy John surgery.A costly way to open up a 40-man roster spot, as Diamond will be paid a major league salary and earn service time while he continues his rehab. It’s just more fallout from the decision to give Julio Borbon a major league deal last summer.

Dumb
If anything about it should be criticized it is deciding to bring up a guy who didn’t have to be placed on the 40 man until after the season and thus burning an option for a brief 2 week stint in which if Blalock is healthy he won’t play but a couple of times at the most.

Looking at the 40
I really don’t see anyone who I would DFA except Arias. With his injury history I think he could clear waivers. Metcalf must be getting close to coming back. That is probably why they didn’t put him on the 60 day DL.
