Opening Day Photos

Sorry to double up on my fanshot, but after posting that this morning I spent most of the day developing and enlarging (old school style w/ chemicals) and then scanning in more of the photos I took on opening day and I wanted to post them.

They were black and white for a project, a tint added in photoshop, but I kind of like the look.  Rangers in the early 1900s =)

Unfortunately about half the shots I took failed to develop because I was using a lens that had some problems, so all my action zoomed in shots are gone.

Below is one example, here is the link to the rest of them including the panoramic shot I made a fanshot with.

Speaking

of that escalator picture… They got pissed off at me because I was walking down it, such a stupid rule.

I was about to get pissed off….

photography

i really miss working with film, and developing stuff myself. used to spend entire days in the darkroom just to get 1 print the way i wanted.

i keep thinking about buying myself a digital slr and getting all modern.

I resisted forever

In fact, I didn’t even own an autofocus SLR until I got my first dSLR. I’d rent a Canon or Nikon outfit occasionally when the gig called for it , but I liked doing everything myself. Color photography would go to BWC for developing and printing. B/W I would do myself.

Three years ago I went all digital, though, and I’ve got to tell you it’s much less of a pain in the ass. I can’t lie and say I don’t miss certain things about the darkroom, but doing it from the desktop has so many advantages. And in the field being limited to 36 frames before changing film absolutely sucks ass. Being free from that alone was worth switching. Storage, too. I’ve had most of my old work destroyed by water damage. Wouldn’t have happened with digital.

One thing I wish I could have is an old school SLR with a digital sensor. I miss the way a manual camera operates. Aperture ring, mainly. I still find my fingers reaching for it now and then.

BUT….the quality still isn’t really there. I have a 12 megapixel CMOS and while it comes pretty close to the best 35mm films and surpasses others, I still can’t quite get that Velvia look, you know? I can get pretty damn close but that’s it. The problem is dynamic range. It can be dealt with, but requires a lot of BORING photoshop time.

yeah

i just like the mechanical feeling to non digital. i like being able to move an apature ring, etc. but i keep thinking i’d like a canon or nikon d-slr. would be nice to not have to worry about losing negatives or damaging them, then again i dont really do much photography these days.

you think Jennings walked Chiti during his pregame warmup?

Nice

work Shep.

I have a request, would it be possible for you to expand that panoramic photo to be able to fit dual displays similar to the images on this website?

Where's Waldo?

I like the old guy holding his hand up at the very bottom (below the batting cage).

All he needs is a pair of glasses and a red/white striped cap.

Nice work DShep

I’m a graphic designer myself and I love the effects you used. The wear and noise on the flag pick feels nostalgic.

You can ALMOST see me in that picture

Great idea though and great execution. I’ve been meaning to filter through my opening day shots, but I haven’t had a chance yet.

And with the 22nd overall selection the Dallas Cowboys select Jonathan Stewart.
