Saturday a.m. things

Well, that sucked.

Evan Grant says Luis Mendoza just didn't have command of his sinker last night.  That happens, and Mendoza caught a bit of a bad break with the Ortiz grand slam -- a ball that is a flyout to the left fielder in 29 other stadiums -- but Mendoza is going to have to make those outings few and far between if he's going to stay in the rotation.  Mendoza hasn't been throwing that two-seam sinking fastball for a real long time, which may have something to do with it.

Omar Beltre and Alexi Ogando are in Japan right now, showing their stuff to Japanese teams that may want to purchase their contracts from the Rangers.

And according to the S-T, Eddie Guardado is getting activated this weekend.

Mendoza

I guess I will never know what goes thru someones head especially like Mendoza. Sailing along for what 3 innings and then the wheels fall off? It must be mighty hard to remember the success you had at the first part of the game because Texas’s pitchers seem to easily forget that. Ok, he is young granted. Does Mark what’s his name do anything except trot out to the mound to say something nice before the pitchers are sent to the showers. Enough of this crap!

They're the Red Sox, we're the Rangers...

that’s what happens. I don’t expect much out of Jason Jennings tonight… hell, I don’t expect ANYTHING out of Jason Jennings tonight, as Mr. Jennings is

I can't even imagine

The savage beatdown that Jason Jennings is going to get tonight.

If the Red Sox have less than 5 runs after the 3rd inning, I would just give him a victory reguardless of what the actual score is.

It ain’t gonna be pretty thats for sure.

That David Eckstein is soooo cheap when he was with the Angels he would go to the library to use the computer because he didn't want to buy one for himself.

If I were a betting man I would wager

JJ doesn’t make it out of the 4th inning tonight and give up 7ER.

If JJ doesn’t show signs of improvement this game something has to be donw. His act is growing tiresome.

I think

If Mendoza were pitching well when McCarthy returns and Jennings continues to pitch like he currently is, it’s an easy decision to DFA Jennings and leave Mendoza in the rotation. But as it sits right now I would still probably get rid of Jennings. Especially if Mendoza doesn’t have any options left.

Mendoza

He has 3 options left. He wasn’t added to the 40 man roster until last September.

Jennings will go to the d.l., not be DFA’d, if he’s struggling.

Already said Jennings will be re-evaluated at the end of the road trip. I wouldn’t expect him to be active, or a member of the starting rotation, this time next week.

Soooo….how is Patterson coming along?

...it's the weekend, so why the hell not?

by Rodney on Apr 19, 2008 11:37 AM CDT up reply actions

Patterson

A non-factor at this point, I think.

If Jennings goes on the d.l., Feldman probably steps into the rotation.

I don’t think he’s eligible to be back until late May (28th I believe).

PREDICTION FOR TODAY'S GAME:

Jacoby Ellsbury will be hit by a pitch…

by oc on Apr 19, 2008 11:00 AM CDT reply actions

When you try to score from 3rd....

on a dropped ball and your team is already up 10-3 you should be hit by a pitch. To bad JJ doesn’t throw hard enough for it to do anything though.

exactly!

The batters crowd the plate when he’s pitching. Whats the worst that can possibly happen? A broken nail?

So what is the cutoff on a lead where you have to stop trying? 5 runs?

Ogando and Beltre

Its good that they will likely go to Japan and get to pitch somewhere real. But I’m going to be FURIOUS in the event that they somehow get allowed back into the US after we give up on them. And I can just see the Red Sox pulling strings to get them back in a year from now…

Out of curiosity – does anyone know how one flies from Santo Domingo to Japan without going through the US?

by JBImaknee on Apr 19, 2008 12:02 PM CDT reply actions

Santo Domingo to Japan

I’m not a world traveler, so someone correct me if I’m wrong. This doesn’t seem very easy, as apparently there are no direct flights from Central or South America to Japan. The best I could come up with was Santo Domingo to San Jose, Costa Rica to Mexico City to Toronto to Tokyo. It would probably take 3 days to make this trip.
