by trekds9 on Apr 20, 2008 3:14 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm as down on Wash as the next guy

but you can’t put this game on him. This is a win if your closer can get 4 outs instead of imploding.

by MeanMr.Mustard on Apr 20, 2008 3:10 PM CDT reply actions

It is Wash's fault

He never should have sent Millwood back out for the 7th with over 100 pitches through 6. It is not like he was going to finish the game, he was basically done. If Millwood is out the whole tenor of the inning might have been different.

by ranger jim on Apr 20, 2008 6:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Agreed

this last inning is not on Wash (players did not make plays) but overall i think Wash is not putting players in the best position to succeed and there is some lack of direction going on.

Again, you can’t fire 25 guys

It's tougher in MLB than any other sport

to make the postseason. Ridiculously, only 8 of 30 teams make the postseason and in the AL, either NY or Boston almost always grab the wild card. Baseball should go to a 6 team format, especially since the lack of a salary cap often sees the same goddamn teams making the playoffs.

negatives

I “watched” from more than a few thousand miles away tonight(from turkey) and for 2 games in a row(and a few more earlier ) the team has not performed/executed-3 players, 10 players, 25 players usually cannot be fired-the manager can, and the general manager can-this sounds a little like galloway nonsense , but this season is rapidly escaping, and it shouldn’t be-imagine what it would look like if last year’s starting pitching performance existed? Until tonight(my time) I had not considered what I mentioned above, and I do not believe in “panic management”, but my “personal eyebrows” are raised

Without too much of a rush

Salty, Boggs, Cruz to the bigs. Adios Broussard, Cat, and Laird. Make very specific plans to put Young on a corner (3B?) within 2 years and groom Andrus even if he doesn’t hit a ton.

Oh wait, that IS the plan, or I’d reckon it is. I guess we just want it to happen faster. And yes I think Wash will be fired, not for things he didn’t do, but for things players didn’t or couldn’t do, and that includes players he wanted here and prefers to play. Bradley excepted. Milton is good.

I think the difference between

Chris Davis right now vs. Chris Davis after the break is +3 wins and little to no effect on his developement, even as a pinch-hitter/part-time player. His value right now if he gets called up and plays like Salty/Kemp/other dodger is equal to their’s last year. I’d rather see him than Cat.

ENOUGH!!!!!

Do you see the pitching staff stats. Almost as many walks as strikeouts! Unacceptable. The starting pitching, for the most part, has been good and sometimes great. How many games has the bullpen blown already RISP average of .200… unacceptable!

It is time to sack Mark Conner… I DON’T SEE IMPROVEMENT ON THE MOUND! Sorry, just not happening. Then, if the team is still in the funk after the next two weeks, I let Ron Washington AND Rudy Jaramillo go. Sorry players, if you want your friend coaches to stick around, you should perform for them. I don’t buy the Jaramillo mystique anymore… I DON’T SEE IMPROVEMENT AT THE PLATE! We obviously should have picked Hillman over Wash. I like Wash, but some guys are better “coordinators/coaches” than head coaches/managers.

I retain Daniels though because I like the plan and how he was going about it. Just a shame the San Diego and White Sox trades haven’t worked for him. Costly mistakes, but JD is not the problem. Time for players to be accountable for the ridiculous salaries.

Also, EXPERIMENT OVER! It is time to bring up Salty. Laird at .207, sick of it. I can live with a couple of extra SB for the opposition if it means Salty can get on with building relationships with the current pitching staff.

The prospects at AAA and AA are producing, many at the major league level aren’t. Maybe it is time to cut the cord and push up the 09 secession plans a couple of months. Maybe Gold is like Murphy was in Boston… just needs an opportunity to show us what he’s got! Why not? Move everybody up a level that deserves it and fill in behind.

Many on the roster are proving not to deserve our loyalty.

Sorry for the ramble, but I would put Frisco up against Arlington any day of the week and probably go at least 500. Sheesh.

Go Cubbies and Go Rangers!

So what kind of Manager to you go for?

We had Buck “The micro manager” that the players seemed to soil on. So they bring in Washington who by all accounts is a players manager which is what FOTF and others wanted. So what kind of manager and who do you go after in the offseason. Assuming Walbeck, Howe or Jones take over?

Who can fire up the team, and lead by example in the clubhouse. And someone who knows how to manage young players. Walbeck fits those criteria, and Bobby Jones probably does too with all his time managing OKC. Art Howe though… meh.

Perhaps we could start with somebody who ALWAYS writes a lineup that maximizes the available talent.

These last two losses ...

are the kinds that really hurt. Both games they played well enough to win. Both games they turn it over to the guys in the pen who are supposed to be automatic. Both games those guys cough up the lead.

On the other hand, if they can win tomorrow morning they are still at .500 for the road trip. If they can maintain that all season, they’ll be hanging around the race into September. As heart-breaking as these last two games have been, this team is showing signs of putting some things together. It would sure be nice if they can.

Shitty series...

these last 3 loses really hurt after winning 2 in Toronto. I love BGL but he just choked today. As far a Millwood starting the 7th I probably would have gone to the pen. Tough decision though when your ace comes to you after 6 shutout innings and says he’s good and wants to go out for the 7th, even if his pitch count was high.

As for Wash, I think ab, miles, and myself are the only ones left that don’t want him to be canned. It’s just funny to me how everyone predicts before the year starts that this team will finish in 3rd (or second in best case scenerio) and we are bias to the team. Many of us predicted 70-80 wins, with .500 being the goal if things went well. Most baseball writers had this team in last again. The talent level isn’t high and JD just started rebuilding the minors last year. No one has any patience. That’s fine, it’s your opinion, but I just don’t get it. I’m tired of losing too, but you give a new manager 1+ year with a bad team and then want him fired? We are realistic about the team before the season but after the first game we get caught up in things and think this should be a playoff team.
