OT: How are your MLB 2k8 Rangers doing?

The real Rangers aren't giving us too much to be excited about, so let's talk about our MLB 2k8 Rangers.  I know there's at least a few other people out there playing it as consistently as I am.  So, post some of your more exciting stats thus far...

Star-divide

So far, my team is 44-30, on top of the AL West, leading the Mariners by 4 games.

My starting lineup vs RHP w/DH:

Catalanotto: .304/.310/.563
Kinsler: .347/.346/.734 21 HR 8 SB
Young: .423/.438/.931 26 HR 54 2B 15 3B
Hamilton: .336/.333/.758 17 HR 22
Blalock: .337/.348/.680 25 HR
Broussard: .382/.387/.747 14 HR
Saltalamacchia: .367/.367/.704 15 HR
Murphy: .290/.294/.517
Bradley: .292/.291/.640 19 HR
----
Laird: .226/.235/.391
Cruz: .326/.323/.539

Oh yeah... as you can see, I don't really take walks.  When you can hit like that, there really isn't any reason to be patient at the plate.  Plus it has never really been easy for me to determine balls and strikes in baseball games.

Rotation:

Millwood: 9-6 2.29 ERA 97 Ks .196 BAA 0.75 WHIP, 114 IP
Padilla: 8-2 4.18 ERA 73 Ks, 90.1 IP
Jennings: (was on the 60-day DL) 1-3 5.73 ERA
McCarthy: 7-4 4.47 ERA
Gabbard: 8-2 3.81 ERA
----
Wilson: 1-2 16 SV / 18 SVO, 3.09 ERA
Guardado: 1.40 ERA 2-0, 9 Ks in 19.1 IP
Francisco: 2.22 ERA 1-2, 17 Ks in 24.1 IP
Benoit: 4.12 ERA 1-3, 36 Ks in 39.1 IP
Rest of the pen is mediocre.

I should probably increase the difficulty of the sliders, but I started from the pro difficulty and have already boosted them some.  Oh well, I'm having fun, and Josh Hamilton gets A LOT of triples.

heh...

I’m in college, and I’m really lazy, and I really get into baseball games…
I’ll sit down and play at 3 or 4 at a time.

Hows the game?

I’ve got an XBox 360 and have been meaning to pick it up. Good?? Bad? Mediocre?

I have it on the 360.

The gameplay is really fun, I really enjoy that aspect of it.

The functionality of the franchise mode has some bugs, but you learn how to get around it.

Overall, I’d give it a 8 out of 10, because I’m capable of coming back to it day after day.

MVP

I read on OS that it had a lot of glitches when it first came out but see you can pick it up on ebay for around $40 now and was thinking about trying it. Whats your gamertag? Play anything else?

the graphics are actually significantly worse than last year

and its glitchy.

but it plays solid baseball. for people who have a ps3 the show is better, but 2k8 plays a good enough game of baseball to be worth a purchase for people who want a current baseball game and have only a 360.

question

if someone is going to buy a system would yall suggest ps3 or xbox360?

by knockoutking on Apr 21, 2008 1:18 AM CDT   0 recs

Depends on what kind of games you're into.

PS3 has one significant advantage in the fact that it offers a blue ray DVD player. I’ve always thought PS is/has been a better platform for sports/racing games and Xbox for first person shooter/adventure games. But we currently have a PS3 and 360 at the house and the PS3 does nothing but collect dust. But I’m more of the sports/racing gamer and love the 360 and I’d say you can’t go wrong with either.

It depends what you want...

as already said, the PS3 offers a blu ray player too, so that means you can start watching movies in high def. It’s the first 2.0 profile player on the market through the latest firmware update.

As well, all PS3s come standard with a hard drive while some 360 models (at least in the past, maybe still currently) did not. Thus, all games for PS3 are made to incorporate the ability to use the hard drive too.

Also, going forward technology wise, the PS3 with it’s use of blu ray discs for games vs the 360 which still uses DVDs offers more in terms of depth of games in the future where blu ray single layer discs hold 25 GB, with some games already using the double layer 50 GB discs. Meanwhile, the 360 is capped at the 9 GB DVD discs. Some games are already having to chop content (such as MLB2k8) from the disc due to space concerns on the 360 (While they are offered as a download on the xbox store compared to already on the disc on ps3). As far as the processors, the cell processor of the PS3 is barely even being tapped currently and offers loads of room for growth still.

Also, it depends on the games you want. 360 offers Halo as it’s main exclusive, however even that seems to be fading a bit since Call of Duty 4 has overtaken it in terms of online play by a significant margin. PS3 meanwhile has the new Metal Gear Solid 4 coming out in June and the latest installment of Final Fantasy out late this year. Plus in terms of shooters, Resistance is roughly equivalent to Halo, although still was in first generation and wasn’t quite to Halo level. Most games though are released on both these days sans certain exclusives both ways. Plus racing wise, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue just got released for the PS3 which is kind of a deeper beta with the full version of the game coming out early next year.

I’ve got a PS3 while my bro has a 360. It all depends on you really, although if I were to do it again, I’d still get the PS3. There is a huge difference in blu ray compared to standard def DVDs if you’ve got a HDTV and you can even notice a bit of a difference on a standard def set. Not to mention all games are offered in at least 720p, if not 1080p on certain games.

Plus...

if you get the PS3, you can get the superior MLB: The Show 2008 which is a PS3 exclusive.

All I know, Troy

that The Dirkatrons are mopping the floor with the Tallahassee Texas Leaguers!

I know what you’re asking yourself: Did he just go there?

And my reply: Yes, I did indeed just go there.

True-Dat

Plus I think you were around for the latter part of the draft, and I’m pretty sure that Cliff Lee pick is the difference between us right now. He’s been unreal. He can’t really have a sub-1 ERA all year, can he?

Yea i got in around pick 14

I just remember they had already picked me an extra RF, 2 DHS and 1 1B before they had even filled out my C, 2B, SS, and 3B and me thinking WTF.

Yea Cliff Lee, and even Joe Saunders and Nick Blackburn have been ridiculous. Now if only I had a closer.

I have MLB '06 The Show

And my digital Rangers where 7-4 last week when my PS2 went kaput. I was tied with the A’s for the division lead, and Josh Hamilton was hitting something like .450 with 6 HR already.

That’s the way it’ll stay till I get my box fixed though.

Gig 'Em Aggies! 2010

At that moment, I wanted to throw my Blackberry out a window. I wanted to shut down this blog, unsubscribe to the NMLR, give away my tickets for this year, and burn all my Rangers gear. I wanted to forget that baseball even existed...And tonight, I'm sitting here thinking to myself, "I hope there's a game tomorrow."

Was going to purchase it for the Wii

but then I found out their version didn’t have the minors, lazy developers!

by Taylor on Apr 21, 2008 1:53 PM CDT   0 recs

there have also been a lot of complaints

about how it plays on the Wii… or I should say that it’s completely unplayable. Don’t know for myself, but that should steer you away from buying it for that platform too.
