T.R. Sullivan mailbag up
T.R. Sullivan has a new mailbag column up...
No bad trade proposals, but there is an "I want Kevin Mench up!" question...

TR's mailbags
I’m convinced those are more PR fluff pieces than actual journalism. I don’t know why I continue to read them.
At least he acknowledged that...
...Pierre would be a poor target for the Rangers. I halfway expected T.R. to tell us how useful a speedy/bunty/World-Series-Ringy veteran would be for the team.
Right around the time all the young talent is ready to contend is when the organization will realize that Ron Washington is the wrong man for the job.
One important point...
Sullivan got it right about potential log jams… they don’t occur even closely to the amount of times we expect them.
Okay
He hit 103 against the next batter – so maybe the gun’s a bit hot there in Ft. Wayne.
He struck out the side in the first, btw.
Wow
A 20 mph difference on his fastball and change with a slider right in the middle. That is a recipe for domination right there. Now if he can just harness it he will be pretty good
3 pitches = starter material
Even though everybody has him pegged for future CL.

Concur...
3 pitches all about 10 mph apart is starter stuff.
He may have the best chance of any of our minor league pitchers to be that ace we have all been wanting for quite some time now.

I agree
Felix has the makings a plus plus major league fastball. If he can continue to develop his command and his secondary offerings, he has top of the rotation potential.
91 MPH slider? Somewhere Blake Beavan is pissed.

That's nothing...
like the 75 mph heat Wakefield would throw occasionally yesterday.

Step 1: Win
Step 3: Profit
I don’t know where uniform concerns fit in, but it’s got to be pretty low.

Would it?
I mean, appreciably?

For one
That was a South Park reference.
But it’s not as if we’re running out 70’s Astros uniforms or late 90’s Devil Rays. It’s a complete judgment call between red and blue. Maybe it’s because I was only 10 when the Rangers first won the division, but I don’t understand the fascination with the red. It’s plain, boring and very widely used.

There are a lot of things besides primary colors to do with our visual identity
The lack of a strong logo, the hopping on the black train in the 90s when it clashes with every color we use otherwise and the drop shadow has always looked horrible, the inconsistant piping among the jerseys, the fact our current scripts look incredibly like our far more successful division rival, that our best script that we have is only used on the dugout jackets, etc.
I think
You put way too much thought into such an unimportant issue.
As long as they’re not trotting out rainbow or neon uniforms which would actually distract from the game, I couldn’t care less.
I’d rather have a strong winning identity than a visual one.

Well we have a better shot at a visual one
If we’re going to suck, we might as well look good, and it’s not like the money that would go into design are going to be what keeps us from signing the missing piece we need to win it all.
Count me among those...
...who like either color.
When they switched to red I was disappointed because all I knew up to that point was Rangers in blue. But then I got used to red and liked it.
That said I was pleased when they returned to blue.
