Reds GM Wayne Krivsky Fired
Not even the Edinson Volquez trade could save his job, apparently:
The Cincinnati Reds have fired general manager Wayne Krivsky less than three years into his tenure, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
Krivsky, a former assistant GM with the Minnesota Twins, was hired in 2006, succeeding Dan O'Brien. He was the first general manager to be hired under the Reds ownership group led by Bob Castellini and is in the last year of a three-year contract.
The Reds are currently 9-12 and 5½ games behind the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs.

Wow
With the way Volquez, Cueto and Votto are playing and Bruce and Bailey waiting in the wings this is a bit of a shock

Wow.
Some new GM is going to look awesome in his 2nd year on the job. And all he really has to do is let his players develop.

Or some old GM is going to look good
Walt Jocketty came over to the Reds during the offseason as the special assistant to the owner.

jocketty
With Jocketty as the new gm its only a matter of time before some team trades some veteran to the reds to get some combo of Bailey, Bruce, Cueto, or Volquez.

Any thoughts on...
Rangers the might be interested in?

blalock?
As far as the Rangers are concerned I think that blalock is the only guy who even starts a conversation, but its gonna take more than just hank. I have to think that Dusty is getting a little tired of Edwin Encarnacion although apparently he does bleed internally

MOB
and Jamey Wright spring to mind.
MOB would be a nice upgrade over CoPa’s .265 OBP. You’d think that he could be healthy enough to play CF by mid-summer.

Why now?
Why didn’t they just do this in January when they hired Jocketty? With both Jocketty and Baker in Cinci, I fully expect some vets to be acquired this summer. Could be a good partner for the Rangers.

Draft
If they no longer have much confidence in Krivsky, better get rid of him now, and re-evaluate your plans for the upcoming draft. If you wait any longer, you run the risk of not being adequately prepared. That is the only reason I can think of.

My point
was, why didn’t they get rid of him earlier instead of waiting until now. It seems odd that they made him work with Jocketty looking over his shoulder if they were just going to dump him.

The Reds
farm system was really bad 2 years ago, now they are really good.
There has to be something more to this.

Reds farm
There top prospects like Votto, Bruce, Cueto and Bailey were all drafted before Krivsky came aboard. They were high ceiling high school players who took a few years to get to the bigs. Sound familiar? Our system is already rated top notch and the majority of talent is only in their first and second pro years.
This looks more and more like what happened to Doug Melvin. A new owner comes in and demands a winner now. The farm system that had been getting lots of good prospects is neglected and a couple years down the road the GM is gone when the team doesn’t win. I know the situations aren’t identical but there are some similarities

Here's a good summary
of some of Krivsky’s moves as Cincy GM.
He made some really killer moves. Hambone in the rule-5 was genius. Willy-Mo for Arroyo. Brandon Phillips for… well, nothing.
His tenure wasn’t all sunshine, lollipops and morally-ambiguous strippers, (Drew Stubbs in the top 10? Really? I mean… REALLY?) but he certainly did some good things while there.
