Saltalamacchia will be active tonight

Jarrod Saltalamacchia is in D/FW and will be active for tonight's game, per Jon Daniels (via the S-T).

No corresponding move yet to clear a spot on the 25 man for him, but my guess is that Luis Mendoza goes to the d.l., and they wait a day or two to see how Adam Melhuse is.  If he's only going to be out a game or two, Salty gets sent back down in a few days to make room for another pitcher, and if not, he'll go to the d.l. and a pitcher will come up.

Ohhhh sweet Jesus

I picked him up last night for my fantasy team. I’ve kept an empty C spot just waiting for him. It might be short lived, but whatever.

What happened to my old signature?

salty

i drafted him and have stashed him all season in our AL only keeper league….. time to pay up if you want salty :)

I watched a guy pick up Laird three weeks ago. I didn’t say a word since he’s the same “friend” that drafted Josh Hamilton from underneath me just because I talked about how great he was going to be.

Salty carries the Rangers

to a swept of the Twins and is promptly sent back down on Monday. After all, JD has to get maximum value for Laird at the deadline in July.

per Jason Cole

Teagarden promoted to OKC

by shroomer on Apr 25, 2008 2:34 PM CDT   0 recs

hmm

that makes it look like Salty’s promotion is a bit more permanent.

by BHill on Apr 25, 2008 2:36 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Then we know

This is just a cameo for Salts, because TeaBag is in no way ready for a promotion. He needs to get his BA over the Mendoza line first…

...it's the weekend, so why the hell not?

Yep...

Teagarden

I hope that’s enough for him to snap out of his funk. He’s been pretty awful at the plate so far. What are the chances Jose Felix ends up in Bakersfield this season?

by badradiorules on Apr 25, 2008 2:42 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Eh

I don’t really get it.

They want Max to get starter ABs as a catcher?

Go Strangers.

by hightowersmith on Apr 25, 2008 2:50 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah

That pretty much settles that. I’m a little excited, just because I was looking forward to getting to see all of Hamilton, Kinsler and Saltalamacchia in the lineup coming into the year. Salty hasn’t been real hot lately, and Teagarden hasn’t been hitting all, so hopefully they’ll adjust.

by zywica on Apr 25, 2008 4:45 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Remember

Coming out of college Teagardens bat was the question mark. So maybe last year was an abberation and this year is more like what we can expect offensively. This is exactly why I hated hearing people back in February and March talking about trading Salty because we had Teagarden coming right behind him. When there are questions about your offense coming out of college I would like to see at least 2 years of good offense before proclaiming you to be cured of that question mark.

by bigsteve on Apr 25, 2008 5:03 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

i mean

injuries still have to be the main concern but offense isn’t that far behind.

While they ar eat it.

Since TT is heading to OKC, why not DFA Broussard and promote Ramirez to the big club?

Wrong guy.

DFA Broussard and promote Chris Davis instead. :)

by iblum on Apr 25, 2008 3:19 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

All in due time.

Max is on the 40. There is some incentive to bring him up before Davis. He can DH. Botss and Cat man 1B until July.

With the recent "soreness" in Milton Bradley's legs

I don’t think you can call up a guy who will be a DH exclusively just yet. Wait till Milton can play in the field, and then call up MaxRam.

by lonestarJon on Apr 25, 2008 6:25 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Wow.

Somebody on my side. Many think that a player must get some AAA at bats before reaching the MLs.

Why does it matter

How many times have you seen an emergency catcher be needed?

Maybe once

a year. Just curious.

Mariners have a Salty,

Jeff Clement. Too bad they Just re-upped Johjima for 3 years. Am I missing something? Why would the M’s do this? Kenjii is clearly struggling this year and at 32 years old he is clearly on the decline. With a stud prospect ready to step in, in Clement it just doesn’t make sense.

by sprite on Apr 25, 2008 3:26 PM CDT   0 recs

Should read some of the comments on USS Mariner

Imagine us reupping Laird and that’s what’s going on over there.

by LiamP on Apr 25, 2008 3:36 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

A very bad move by the Mariners...

I like it.

Laird...

he has hit better in the last week or so, but I don’t expect it to last.

Salty should be starting if he’s here.

Shh.

This is a Laird “no praise” zone. Please refrain from saying anything even remotely positive about him.

On a serious note, if Salts is here for the long haul, and not just as two or three day insurance for Melhuse, I agree that he should be in the lineup every day and catching at least 4 days per week.

by Athos on Apr 25, 2008 5:18 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

no

just because it is salty does not make it alright to use your backup catcher in the lineup. I don’t understand why people (including ron wash) think that is a good idea.

Rare Gnats Sex

by ab03 on Apr 25, 2008 5:21 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Salty

If he is here he better not be here as the backup

by bigsteve on Apr 25, 2008 5:22 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

that's fine

i’m taking issue with using him in the lineup when he’s not catching (hence, he’s the backup catcher that day)

Rare Gnats Sex

by ab03 on Apr 25, 2008 5:22 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

DH

I don’t have a problem DHing him occasionally but I agree that its either catcher or bench. No 1B for Salty.

by bigsteve on Apr 25, 2008 5:24 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

It's a risk, certainly.

But odds are that neither player will be injured. If one is, then you deal with it for the rest of a single game and get a replacement the next day. So while it is a risk, it isn’t a significant risk.

by Athos on Apr 25, 2008 5:24 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

really?

I mean, I’m pretty sure that when minnesota did this, didn’t they have an emergency guy like lecroy (I could be wrong)?

i just don’t like taking that risk

Rare Gnats Sex

by ab03 on Apr 25, 2008 5:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

So what would you have done

in that game in Toronto when Blalock went out with an injury late and we had to use Melhuise at 3B. That left us without a backup catcher during the last few innings.

by bigsteve on Apr 25, 2008 5:42 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

worst case scenario is like 5 at bats

How is that some horrible outcome?

Its quite likely laird wouldnt get hurt at all, and if he did it could cost anywhere from 1-5 at bats.

In this season, how can you deem a few at bats from a pitcher/pinch hitters as anything consequential when compared to playing time for our top prospect?

Gerald Laird is my hero.

by DSheppard on Apr 25, 2008 6:25 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

If we're really that concerned about that miniscule possibility

Then we should cut Broussard, and bring up Shelton.

I think it’s worth the risk though, to get a bat like Salty’s in the lineup. It’s one thing when you DH Gerald Laird (that’s stupid) but having Salty in there is worth the miniscule risk.

how so?
The list of NBA players who have been charged with marijuana possession in recent years includes Philadelphia’s Allen Iverson, Sacramento’s Chris Webber and Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. But even so, the National Basketball Players’ Association (NBPA) - the players’ union - fought vigorously to restrict testing and to protect the rights and privacy of players.

maybe the Rangers should start smoking pot..

I can’t imagine their “focus” being any worse or at least give some out at the gate to help the fans deal with the non stop futility.
