Debt, relative to the GDP, is what really matters, and it has remained relatively constant over the last 8 years since Clinton left.

Yeah, I get kind of tired

of Republicans try to paint themselves as fiscally responsible protectors against those evil communist Democrats, when they are absolutely destroying this country with their “Charge up the national credit cards, and pass the costs onto the kids” mentality. Interest on the debt is one of our largest, and fastest growing, items on our budget. Most of it is attributable to the Reagan, Bush, and Bush presidencies.

Give me a Democratic president, and a Republican congress that hates the Dem President’s guts, and thats about as good as it gets for Budget control.

And for all the Reagan worshipers

it’s ironic that a guy who ran on the deficit was saying those things when it was at it’s lowest point on that chart since before WWII, then immediately he reversed a 30-year trend. Yeah, what a great conservative. I don’t see any way to improve things like budgeting and the tax code unless the entire election cycle is changed with an amendment. Term limits and a bipartisan commission with equal reps from both parties or some other way to decide so that districts remain logical.

Shockingly enough, the government has to start reissuing 1 year debt.

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080430/federal_borrowing.html?.v=2

The administration said Wednesday it would begin selling the one-year bill, also referred to as a 52-week bill, at an initial auction in June. New one-year securities will be auctioned every four weeks.

The government is looking for various ways to borrow the billions of dollars in extra cash it will need to cover a budget deficit that is expected to jump to an all-time high this year, surpassing the old mark of $413 billion set in 2004.

A big part of the increased borrowing reflects the need to pay for economic-stimulus rebates to 130 million households. The government began disbursing the payments on Monday in an effort to give the economy a jump start.

Why

Why is debt relative to the GDP all that matters? Shouldn’t it be debt to income ratio? With lower taxes and free trade (i.e. lower income) and higher debt, how is this good for the country?

From Evan Grant
Went to the Rangers “Triple Play” charity event, even though I apparently was banned by Josh Lewin from participating as a judge in any of the game shows after last year’s Iron Chef contest. Banned! Well, it was a good night anyway. They really do put on a very nice show. It may be a little too formal for some folks and perhaps a little too pricey for the majority of Rangers fans, but if you do want to see these guys show some personality, this is a place to be. The “Fielder’s Feud” spinoff of “Family Feud” is always good for a few laughs.

Last year, Gerald Laird won the Iron Chef contest. I wonder if he considers cooking as one of his 5 tools.

Put this under the "it could always

be worse” column:

When the Giants spent $126 million on Barry Zito, they touted his ability to take the ball every fifth day.

But now, barely more than one season into a seven-year deal, they aren’t sure they want to keep giving it to him.

After another erratic and utterly hittable start in a 10-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday at AT&T Park, Giants Manager Bruce Bochy all but declared he would skip Zito or demote him to the bullpen.

“We’ve got to do something,” said Bochy, after Zito allowed a six-run first inning. “We can’t keep doing what we’re doing and getting what we’re getting.”

...Ben tried, at great length, to convince me that the Denton music scene was bigger than the Austin music scene.

by Adam J. Morris on Apr 28, 2008 11:51 PM CDT up reply actions

At one point,

the Denton music scene was bigger than the Austin music scene. I’d say the early-mid 90s when bands like Tripping Daisy, Brutal Juice, Baboon and Ten Hands were coming out of Denton, it briefly eclipsed Austin’s “scene”. Before the church took over the area around the campus, Denton had a small yet respectable little scene that was a breeding ground for some really cool music.

Several bands, including my own at the time, were getting more exposure than deserved because of bands like Tripping Daisy. Countless mid 90s Denton bands jumped on those coattails.

After watching the twins take off seemingly every time there was a runner on 1st and seeing his sub 30% MiLB cs% (3 for 11). Do you think Salty has a chance to control a running game or would we end up with a system like san diego (If your on first your running)?

Last year

I think Laird was around 40%, so that’s not a huge difference. I’m more concerned with Salty getting better calling games and controlling pitchers. I have no doubt he will, but it will just take further seasoning at this level. He seemed to have done a great job with Ponson, but they worked together at AAA. I’m afraid he wouldn’t have pushed Padilla yesterday to keep throwing the fastball and get off the first pitch junk, but I’m going to love watching the maturation process.

For them it has more to do with their pitchers than catchers. Maddux and Young are especially guilty.

by Randy Richardson on Apr 28, 2008 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions

could be

but Bard and Barrett were a combined 17/178 on it.

I think what really caught my eye in the twins game was when Mauer took off 3 times in a row. I know it was a full count and Morneau doesn’t strike out a ton but it just seemed odd seeing the catcher take off like that with less that 2 outs

by bushe on Apr 28, 2008 4:04 PM CDT up reply actions

If you look at most of MLB

30% is actually pretty good. For a rookie catcher, I’d be ecstatic with 30%. Breakeven is right around 30-33%, where the value of the outs is about the same as the value of the bases stolen.

Its relative to what segemnt of recruits you are after.

If you are attempting to fill lower end postions or have been expreincing a “generational gap” then internet recruiting might entice a younger group. The key is how to get your exposure with internet recruiting. If its a broadbased Web site or a specailzed target group might have alot to do with the success of interent recruiting.

If its an extremely technical or specialized field, this may not work for you. If its a broad based business it might have better effects.
