What if we trade for Zito?

Now before you jump down my throat.

What if we traded for Zito's entire contract in order to pick up some premium prospects?

For example, would you do:

Zito, Villalona, Alderson, one of (Cain/Lincecum) for a player?

We'd be taking on 100M for two very good prospects and a great pitcher.

What do you think?

This is very stupid

for a number of reasons, and really isnt even worth discussing

Well,

I doubt S.F. would through in Cain or Lincecum even if we were to take on Zito’s contract. Thats just silly if you ask me. “Here take zito and his contract, and hey, by the way, take your pick of Cain or Lincecum.” Come on dude.

Back to Zito, I was one of the guys preeching we sign him. Durable and yound being his two main highlights. Now Im not sure what to make of it. Is he injured? Under pressure? Im not sure. But If S.F. was willing to trade for him, I’d be willing to listen what they would be asking for.

Uhhm

The entire incentive for trading a player for Zito’s contract would be the inclusion by SF of premium talent (Cain, Lincecum, whoever it may be).

Maybe they don’t want to unload that contract bad enough to give Lincecum, but it would take something approaching that.

I doubt SF is ready yet to risk a resurgence on Barry’s part, though.

Go Strangers.

Lincecum

is too good for any sort of throw in. i know some have injury concerns and durability concerns with ol timmy but he is the man.

and no we dont have any1 they want for him.

The only way...

Zito leaves S.F. is in a Ho for Nevin type deal. Fortunately, we don’t have the Ho anymore and it’s going to take a serious flop to move that turkey.

How about

MY for Zito?

I’d love to unload MY’s bloated contract, but not like that.

by utlonghorn24 on Apr 28, 2008 5:27 PM CDT   0 recs

they wouldn't include lincecum or cain

they’d probably give up a Noah Lowry or someone like that and still have to take back a bad deal.

What if

SF paid 95 percent of Zito’s contract and took Ben Broussard? Could we then put Zito out there for a start or two, see if he sucks as bad here, and cut him if he does, meanwhile being rid of Broussard?

by Inkara1 on Apr 28, 2008 6:36 PM CDT   0 recs

Giggle

A Giants fan I know was telling me they should deal Cain for Teagarden.

I spent the next few minutes thinking about how fast that deal would get done.

no doubt

18 mil per for a bullpen guy? He can barley hit 84 on the gun.

All the tinkering he did with his delivery is finally paying off.

this is possibly the worst trade proposal i have read in a while

and it topped by the one that said JD shouldnt do salty for joba.

who would we give in that deal lol
teagarden, davis, andrus, feliz, main? lol

if i wanted to read TR’s newsletter id go over there.

no dumbass

Someone like Boussard.

Last time I checked, Cain/Lincecum would be the best pitchers on our team at age 23.

2 solid prospects and one great pitcher for 100M is a great deal if our owner wasn’t scared of blowing 100M.

by Coolbean04 on Apr 28, 2008 8:46 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

you are a fucking idiot

who does not understand baseball.

why would they trade one of their good starters, top prospect and recent top pick + zito for broussard.

they arent the florida marlins who are having a fire sale here.

do you even understand the idea of keeping your younger players? you young stars?

zito is bad but its not like hes been horrible forever. he will turn it around at some point.

you SERIOUSLY think they would do lincecum or cain, alderson, zito and angel villanola for ben broussard.

are you KIDDING me?

Lincecum a throw in?

Have you lost your mind? He’s a major stud for years to come and I mean MAJOR!

He isn't saying Lincecum is a throw in....

He is saying they should give us Lincecum in exchange for assuming Zito’s contract…Stupid and will never happen, but several people are completely missing the fairly obvious point.

I don't think

Zito even cares about baseball anymore..

He wants to be a singer or something, I think he has moved on.

And the secret sources in Cincinnati get the last laugh....

by miles on Apr 28, 2008 8:01 PM CDT   0 recs

We should deal Broussard for Cain or Lincecum then...

That way, Ben and Barry can have jam sessions together, and have good chemistry and maybe they both won’t suck so much.

:D

First

Brian Sabean will have to be fired before they even TRY to move Zito. I doubt he’ll ever admit that he made the mistake of signing the guy.

by chrisR on Apr 28, 2008 8:35 PM CDT   0 recs

I understand the point of his trade offer

It reminds me of the time Ken Rosenthal suggest the Rangers move the AROD contract with Mark Teixera and cash to the Orioles for B level prospects. Hilarious.

Don’t think the Giants will ever be able to move Zito unless top talent and cash was included because unlike ARod, Zito sucks.

by Rainey on Apr 28, 2008 10:36 PM CDT   0 recs

For anyone who thinks...

MY’s contract is untradeable.

I’ll raise you Barry Zito’s contract.

Everyone quit being so realistic

This is actually a pretty interesting hypothetical (because it would never really happen) if put together properly.

So would you trade:

Young ($84M guaranteed through 09)

for

Zito ($116M guaranteed through 13)
&
Lincecum (~ $30M through 13)

Lincecum obviously looks like a stud. If Zito never figures it out again and is DFA’d after next year, your basically paying $146m for 6 years of potential studness (Lincecum) and 6 years of a solid No. 3 (in a best case scenario where Zito figures it out). And you’re divesting yourself of the $84M Young albatross.

I wouldn’t do it. Too much risk, but Lincecum would look really, really good in Ranger blue.

by robert_d_wilfong on Apr 28, 2008 11:47 PM CDT   0 recs

Huh?

Do wouldn’t do that trade?

No way the Giants would ever do that trade.

I look at it like this

In MY you have a productive player who is probably realistically worth $55M-$60M over the next six years … if you have to keep him that long—which you do. So you’re overpaying ~$25M.

Subtract the $25M from the combined $146M that you’ll pay Zito/Lincecum over the same period of time and, in essence, you’re paying Lincecum & Zito a combined $20M per year for the next six years. If you have to release Zito, then you’re really paying Lincecum $20M for the next six years and have forfeited a fairly productive player as well.

by robert_d_wilfong on Apr 29, 2008 11:51 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Actually

That’s something that they would probably have to think about. Especially if you threw in a Poveda-like prospect.

I don’t know that it makes sense, but it would be something that both sides would have to think about at least.

by badradiorules on Apr 29, 2008 11:16 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Cool Hypo, Cool.

Too many attack-dogs jumped in before an entertaining hypothetical could be discussed. What a shame.

its not enertaining

if it was what robert wilfong put up, it would be.

this would be like us trading mike young, hamilton, fabio castillio and beltre for shelly duncan.

Every loss is one closer to the top of the draft in 2009!

by knockoutking on Apr 29, 2008 1:08 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

except

MY is still producing. It’s like if MY was put on the bench and not getting playing time everyday. You also have to add another 30M+ to MY’s contract. A lot of people already hate how much MY will get on his extension, can you imagine if he got paid an additional 30M????? People wold probably kill themselves.

by Coolbean04 on Apr 29, 2008 9:06 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

The $84M referenced above

is what he is guaranteed through the terms of his latest extension.

by robert_d_wilfong on Apr 29, 2008 11:44 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm including robert wilfong's corollary

as part of the entertainment.
