Alex Gordon is a Little Bitch

This is being rehashed from the spring training incident that occurred after Gordon's wife was interviewed by The Hardline's Corby Davidson (aka - Cobra, Snake, Coby, etc.).  http://www.kansascity.com/sports/story/596110.html

I hope anyone who actually goes to the game heckles this over-reacting, humorless, Teix starter kit, douchebag, until he starts crying and challenges every Ranger fan to a fist fight.

Uh...

...what?

I don’t think there is anything in that story to suggest that Gordon is “a little bitch.” If anything, it was in poor taste of the guys at the Ticket to do something like that, then pass the buck to the PR guy to apologize. Pretty gutless on Corby’s part, if you ask me.

In fact, Gordon comes off pretty level-headed in the article, I thought. It’s the Ticket that looks like a bunch of douches.

LSB 2.0 confuses and scares me.

What

Are you saying that Alex Gordon had no right taking offense to his wife being called a “stupid bitch” or did I read your comment wrong?

by baylor on Apr 29, 2008 4:33 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Listen

to the hardline at 5:30. There was a lot left out from the story in the paper. The guys were willing to meet with Gordon in person right after the incident to clear it up, but Gordon refused. Then threatened that he was going to kick their asses. Then forced Royals management to try and get them banned from ever covering spring training and complained to Bud Selig. No one called his wife a bitch. It was a drop that is played hundreds of times a day. Regardless, why won’t he let this go? Because, he apparently is a rick with a p (or a rick without the r, whichever you prefer).

Ok

I guess people find it funny to call woman stupid bitches. If that is your thing more power to you, with you meaning anyone that likes that type of humor.

Douchebags

That doesn’t sound even remotely funny. Doesn’t even sound like it has the potential of being funny.

And if some asshat were to pull something like that on my wife (or mother, cousin, close friend), then he’d have some ‘splainin’ to do. I’d probably be a lot more irate than what it seems like Gordon is.

And I’m pretty sure I’d feel that same way even if I weren’t a Royals fan.

well

maybe explain to your wife who the hell yoko ono is…

Well

I’d imagine his wife is around 25 or younger, does that make her culturally ignorant, or just from a different generation than Yoko Ono?

I think probably the latter.

Culturally relevant

Considering Yoko hasn’t been relevant since that woman has been alive I find it hard to fault her on not knowing who she is. But even if you believe she should know, calling her a stupid bitch on the radio is over the line.

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I guess

it was done in a little bad taste. But you have to be a listener to the Hardline to understand. They do that sort of stuff all the time. Which is usually funny and what makes the show great.

by sprite on Apr 29, 2008 4:45 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

if anyone wants to hear it

you can download it from their itunes podcast of the show.

i think gordon overreacted a bit but cant blame him for getting upset about it. they probably should have apologized just to make it go away.

by DSheppard on Apr 29, 2008 4:41 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Hardline is apparently going to talk about it at around 5:15-5:30 this afternoon

IIRC, they were going to arrange a face-to-face meeting between Corby and friends/Alex at the end of spring training but it never materialized, as Gordon threatened that he would “kick their ass[es]” if he saw them.

by jamcadbury on Apr 29, 2008 4:43 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Incidents like these

Are exactly why I love listening to the ticket do those spring training interviews.

“But shes OK” Gordon said

Haha, like it was some traumatic event? Your getting bent out of shape because radio hosts are doing shtick? Its what they do, its their job.

Not only should they not apologize, since they did nothing wrong, but they should just up the ante and make fun of him whenever possible now. Possibly even making a lets think of better names we can call Alex Gordons wife, segment, into the show.

by SaltyGoesYard on Apr 29, 2008 5:00 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

No two ways about it

It is NOT Gordon that is wrong here. I’m not saying the Ticket shouldn’t do their shtick, but he has every right to be pissed.

...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.

by t ball on Apr 29, 2008 5:03 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Agree 50%

He has every right to be pissed but not at The Hardline. If he is pissed at someone it should be Grubes who played the drop. Neither Mike, Corby, or Danny had any control over that.

by bigsteve on Apr 29, 2008 5:11 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Um,

you don’t think any of the others approve of that kind of drop being played? They do that constantly, it’s the station’s raison d’etre. They could have complained about it or told him to stop.

...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.

by t ball on Apr 29, 2008 5:16 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

But they did not

Because its funny, and they try to be funny as much as they can.

by SaltyGoesYard on Apr 29, 2008 5:21 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

I laughed when I heard it. My point is that Gordon has a right to be pissed, and at the whole station. That is what they are, and he does not have to like it or even accept it.

...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.

by t ball on Apr 29, 2008 5:30 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Umm...

shouldn’t Grubes have to apologize? The hosts didn’t do anything.

by Apes and Androids on Apr 29, 2008 5:26 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Wow

He’s already one of my favorite players, but he’s being a little bitch on this one.

More than him, how girly can the Royals’ front office be? Sounds like his wife’s got to be a little bitch too. Even if she was momentarily embarrassed, that’s life. Get over it. We certainly don’t need management pussyfooting around with this, or Alex Gordon acting like the stereotypical jock goon.

I don’t get people who get so offended when wives/mothers get insulted. We’ve advanced a little bit. Women aren’t helpless, brainless breasts on wheels that need to have their honor defended. Duels aren’t in the cards anymore, either.

The Catman shouldn’t have apologized, but I can only hope that’s as far as it goes.

by brettgardner on Apr 29, 2008 5:51 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

If we've advanced

why is it acceptable to make derogatory and sexist remarks at the expense of a woman in order to make people laugh?

by jparks77 on Apr 29, 2008 5:58 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Sorry

In response to Brett.

by jparks77 on Apr 29, 2008 5:58 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Because

They can take it, just like men. How many women get insulted when a derogatory or sexist remark is made at the expense of a man? It’s funny then. Women don’t have to sit on their hands when they’re insulted now—they can insult right back.

by brettgardner on Apr 29, 2008 6:08 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Poor justification

It’s acceptable to make sexist remarks towards women because they can take it and because women don’t get insulted when a sexist remark is made at a man’s expense?

Some of us haven’t advanced enough.

by jparks77 on Apr 29, 2008 6:32 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

Actually. Why is that a poor justification? You just repeated what I said and put a question mark on it.

Words only have as much power as the intent of the speaker and the response of the listener. If you feel the words have a cumulative effect of being harassing or threatening, then that’s the problem, not the “sexist” remarks.

We live in a world of context, and turning a blind eye to that only impedes social progress.

by brettgardner on Apr 29, 2008 6:43 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Forget it

There is no point in arguing over something like this on a baseball forum. The subject reminded me of this gender issues class I took in Art School and it touched a nerve.

Your opinions are respected, but ultimately we are going to have to agree to disagree on this issue.

Justification

Anything funny is acceptable. If it offends you ignore it and move on, if you think its funny have a laugh and move on. If you don’t think its acceptable but some one else does get over it, no one was hurt here, its just a joke.

by brettgardner on Apr 29, 2008 6:39 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

you're not married, are you.

Good luck with that stance if someone ever calls your girlfriend or wife a stupid bitch. “Oh, honey, relax, they’re not threatening you, it’s just a joke. What, you have a headache, again?!?”

...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.

by t ball on Apr 29, 2008 8:16 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Like I said

It’d be different if it were a threatening situation, but if this exact same scenario played out with my girlfriend, 1. She’d laugh and 2. If she got pissed, I’d tell her to relax and take a joke.

All about context.

by brettgardner on Apr 29, 2008 9:06 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You can't really fault him

But there’s no reason to disparage the Ticket… not Grubes, Corby, Mike, or even Big Dumb Danny.
Gordon took the comment out of context, and you couldn’t expect him to take it any other way; he doesn’t listen to the Ticket. It was a perfectly innocuous thing and not meant to insult anyone, though.

Nobody called her that. It was just a joke for the audience at her expense. To be told much later that the words “stupid bitch” were used in connection with his wife is not anywhere close to enough context for Gordon to react properly.

and the Hardline blows. There’s no winner here. They both deserve to get down in the mud together.

These are the stupid-ass games that 5 year olds play. The fact that this is what the TIcket is these days sucks. They used to make me laugh, now they are just a bunch of elementary school recess dorks saying “poop” and playing fart drops, replaying their own jokes and laughing at them when no one else thinks it’s all that funny.
