Great Moments in Jeff Brantley’s Mouth
I found this article from BTF this morning. Below is the on-air conversation between Jeff Brantley and Thom Brennaman about Edwin Encarnacion being clutch.
Bottom of the ninth, Reds have two on, none out, and Edwin Encarnacion at the plate. Edwin makes two poor attempts at getting down a bunt. Jeff Brantley isn’t happy about it.
Thom Brennaman: See that’s the problem when you ask a guy who’s never bunted…
Jeff Brantley: Take him out of the game! Take him out of the game.
Thom: Ok, but…
Jeff: If he can’t bunt take him out of the game. Put somebody else in there.
Thom: Ok, but if you believe in the bunt in this situation…
Jeff: You’re at home. You have to tie the game.
Thom: But that’s a by the book kind of thing. I don’t know if there’s anybody on that bench…that you’re going to bring in…
Jeff: This guy is NOT a clutch hitter.
Thom: But his numbers are contrary to that…
Jeff: He’s not. He’s not…not…not a clutch hitter.

Brantley is like most baseball...
...commentators. He is smartest when not speaking.
Right around the time all the young talent is ready to contend is when the organization will realize that Ron Washington is the wrong man for the job.
Umm...
What sense does it make to take someone out of the game in the middle of an at-bat with two strikes unless he gets injured?
I would pay money to get a Rangers Brantley jersey

I can't stand Brantley...
To me he's just as bad as Hudler.

I'm glad you posted this
I was watching some of this game, and I couldn't believe how negative (and bad) Brantley was. He was just trashing Encarnacion earlier for a throwing error. And it was a bad error, but he was calling him a choker and saying that he shouldn't be playing in the majors and stuff like that.
I told somebody during the game that he sounded like your country grandfather who is grumpy and hasn't watched a baseball game in 40 years but wants to throw out all of the curmudgeony baseball phrases he knows in ill-timed spots. He also was throwing Brennaman all night. Brennaman would set him up for a standard analyst interjection, and he'd come up with something totally disjointed and off the wall, and Brennaman would have no idea what to say, so you'd have some dead air until the next pitch.
Brantley is terrible.
Oh and
I meant to mention one more thing about this. The true, true Mavs fan who is older than miles can relate to this. Remember when they were just awful and Bill Walton did color for them for a litle while? He was incredibly disinterested, obviously thought that the job was below him, and spent most of his time trashing the Mavs as well as the other team any time they played poorly enough that the Mavs were in a game.
Well, that is exactly what Brantley sounded like to me last night.
