His Point Was...
It broke my 6 game hitting streak on MLB's Beat The Streak.
My pick for today was Gutierrez and he went 0 for 3.
His point is...
John Danks > Brandon McCarthy
And JD fucked up again.
I'm getting sick and tired of hearing (from some of you posters) and reading from the local media that it's to early to tell about this trade. It's plain and simple... McCarthy is a brittle, fragile injury prone flop and JD screwed up another trade.
It's obvious JD has NO clue. And hiring Ron Washington was another flop when we should have hired Trey Hillman. Ron Washington can't lead this team to the playoffs. And Jon Danials should be fired for approving the hiring of Washington.

Taking Bullets
I could stand by and watch you get riddled with insults, barbs, and derision from the JD-Luvin' crowd, but I agree with you completely, and I don't suffer fools gladly.
Both were mistakes, and I said so at the time.

the only reason
id now prefer danks over mccarthy is health. and there was no reason to suspect so at the trade. so im not bitter about that.
yeah i guess
i just wish the rangers had kept him b/c hed be our home grown pitcher. if they both had the same career, i would rather have been able to say, we drafted that kid, we developed that kid, we started that kid, and we resigned that kid. he's our kid.
if its close to a tie, its a loss in my book. showing you can develop and groom kids to rotation stalwart has value in itself.

even if
you could trade him for another guy with far superior minor league numbers who is only one year older than he is?
You see the hype Hurley is generating right now? Imagine that only bigger. Because BMacs minor league numbers are better than Hurleys and far better than Danks' were. I hope the best for the guy but I absolutely hate people who want him simply because he was a "homegrown" prospect or a "hometown kid". BMac was a superior prospect and was more ready for the big leagues at the time of the trade and only one year older. His injuries since the trade should have absolutely no bearing on whether the deal should have been made. We just have to chalk that up to bad luck and go on.
i guess the white sox must be stupid
cause they had no problem taking danks for bmac
I imagine
that's why Masset and Rasner (it was him, yeah?) were included as well, because Danks was less proven.
If I'm not mistaken
I believe JD also managed to take a bite of Ken Williams' turkey sandwich as part of the deal in exchange for future considerations of a handful of M&M's.
Yes
I thought the "plan" was designed to develop "homegrown"talent.
What's wrong with that? Fans love growing up with their players because it breeds familiarity and loyalty. The trade was fairly even to me, except the "homegrown" and Lefty issues.
I think those are valid considerations.
I'd rather be Blind, Crippled, & Crazy
No
At the time the plan was still try to win now. It wasn't until mid way through last year that we went into rebuilding mode. Even so trading a 21 year old who probably needs another year in the minors for a 22 almost 23 year old who has over a year in the bigs under his belt is not that big a deal. The only teams who worry about that type deal are teams like the Rays who worry about arbitration and service time.
Maybe
I agree about the situation at the time of the trade, and I wasn't intending to bring up merits of any given plan.
I just meant to say that I believe that the "homegrown" factor is a valid consideration in making a trade (not specifically the Danks/Mac trade, but any trade) because of the fan connection with the player. I know it's not a stat-factor, but it's a legitimate business concern and should be weighed. I think it's often ignored by the Hicks group.
I'd rather be Blind, Crippled, & Crazy
when your organization is perceived to have a loyalty problem
then developing your own talent and going through a whole era to the end has a value to the fans and the players. the same 2 groups have long questioned management over a failure to commit long-term to developing and keeping good talent.

Amen
Unfortunately, Brandon's health is a major concern right now. Wouldn't be surprised if he went down to TJ sometime this summer.
OK
What exactly makes you think so, though...

And Akinori Otsuka.
Both had situations that bore scary resembelances to B-Mac's problem - both wound up having surgery.

Adam
I do hope McCarthy does better.
But, I serioulsy don't think that this is going to happen. It's a crying shame and I get so damn depressed over getting rid of John Danks who I have followed from the day we drafted him. It's just another huge let down from the way this organization has been handling trades especially Jon Daniels and his pathetic trades

Trey Hillman is good
We should have forked over a little extra money and hired Hillman. I blame Danials for this and Hicks for just being plain stupid. But it boils down to Danials who should have told Hicks that he should pay Hillman the money.

why Miles?
did you see his most recent controversial clip when he asked Ryan Phillipe to make a really gay face for the camera and offended some? Ryan started out as a gay character on a soap opera.
That boy Whiffy's swing has more holes in it than Amy Winehouse's arm.
I was watching that night
And I wasn't really impressed. I didn't have a problem with what he asked the Phillipe to do, for the sake of comedy (it would have been funny), but the way he sat there and harped on the poor guy wasn't too cool, IMO. Phillipe really didn't deserve that.
I like Jay's headlines and monologues, but I think Dave Letterman is a much better interviewer. I usually flip over to Dave once the monologue and the headlines are over.

Letterman v. Leno...
is not even close.
Dave is great and Leno is a schmuck.

Used to love Conan and his quirkiness
watched him the other day and noticed that he's really run the self-deprecating bit into the ground. That's a shame.
It was fun in small doses, but he's lost all touch with it in his monologues.

ugh
just imagine a rotation with young and danks instead of jennings and gabbard + agon instead of broussard.
depressing.
at least jd somewhat redeemed himself with josh hamilton.
OR
young, danks, millwood and padilla and volquez, oh well it is what it is. I love Hammy though.

And
How great would it be if we still had A-Rod bitching all the time and Coco and Gagne blowing save after save... and don't forget about our outfield with Delucci and Nix... Damn, I wish we never made a single trade, EVER!

ARod bitching
You mean like Young does?
Also, show me a link where ARod bitched while he was still here?

Hmmm
After reading the thread and my comment in context, you think my point is about A-Rod bitching? Honey, is that you?

Arod part
Its still a fair question. You typed it in as part of your arguement that trades dont always work. To be honest i hate it when MY bitches. Overall, im starting to get the sense that his public "outcries" are turning more and more into arrogance after getting that huge contract. It was one thing when Tex and Arod put up the numbers and the defense to support the talk. MY needs to shut the hell up and learn to play D at short if he ever wants this team to go as far as he claims it would if the management would have overpayed aging veterans.
baseBALLIN!
Danks has been throwing a cutter
that he's been working on since last year. But today was the first time he's really thrown it in a major league game...
I just went through the gameday data and corrected their pitch type guess, and put it in a nice little chart.
Didn't see him missing many bats today, but the cutter is actually an attempt to create groundball outs and help cut that troubling HR rate. So far, so good.

Too Bad
the Rangers didn't have a pitching coach that knew how to teach him that.
I'd rather be Blind, Crippled, & Crazy
It's Buehrle too
Cooper and Buehrle worked with him on a grip all last year, but he didn't feel comfortable with it. He apparently came up with his own way to throw it in the off-season on his own.
I've noted multiple times that it doesn't really seem to cut, or at least I can't see it cut. I can see it sink though, so it's more like a 2-seamer, a sinker.
