Fans rate TBIA 27th best ballpark
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/specials/fansurvey/2008/index.html?eref=T1
Ridiculous. I can name at least 15 better parks. The Ballpark is so freakin' great. Obviously the number of Ranger fans voting was low. What does everyone else think?

I have trouble seeing it that low,
but I doubt its in the top half anymore. We have been through a great era of ballpark building, and there are very few clunkers like Tropicana left.

as a ballpark
I think it is probably a lot better than 27th,
but if you consider the whole experience – commute, concessions, cheesy music, stupid promos, and poor baseball on the field
it’s definitely going to be in the lower 1/4 of the league
Yep
but I think that says a lot about how good the average ballparks are now.
I haven’t been there this year, but when I went in years past, its concessions definitely lacked compared to the average current ballpark. I would say concessions and the jumbotron are the two most obvious upgrades they should make. With other parks having high def, and food from local vendors (garlic fries in SF from the stinking rose, Fish Tacos in San Diego, Primanti Bros sandwiches in Pittsburgh, etc.), the concessions at the ballpark seem generic and overpriced.

Yep
Most of the newer ballparks have deals like that hooked up.
When you sign with an Araserv or a Sportsservice or whoever, you are destined to have generic, overpriced, tasteless crap. It may be easier to manage just having one food vendor, but it is lowest common denominator crap. You might as well contract out with a hospital to cater your food as Araserv or sportservice.
Getting someone like Joe Ts or Angelo’s or Texadelphia or any of the other local D/FW eateries that actually care about their reputation would make the Ballpark’s food competitive with the newer and better ballparks.

i mean
idk how much fajitas are in the ballpark but i would think people would pay 15$ for GOOD fajitas, right?
for BBQ i would think its the same

also
a section with local beers would be cool, an entire local food and drink section.
have food from places like joe t’s, and some local bbq. and some beers from rahr and some of the austin area breweries.
maybe throw in some dublin dr. pepper.

Do they not have Railhead BBQ anymore?
They used to. They only had chopped beef, no sliced, but it was still miles ahead of hotdogs and nachos.

Location, location, location
Plus, they ditched the Shiner Bock except for the Beers of the World concession stand. Hey, we have Nolan Ryan’s Dong on a Stick now.
re: Ann Coulter - "She doesn't get raped nearly enough." - DJ Cahill
really?
why NOT have shiner all over the park?
also why not have a one place that sells JUST shiner in many varities?

I'm a Shiner Blonde guy
and would love to see that. Also, the Shiner 99 that’s out right now is outstanding. Really nice Helles lager.

probably has a lot...
to do with the atmosphere. It’s not like the place is always packed and rockin’.
I hope to make my first trip to RBiA next year and I’m very excited.

i dont go
simply cause i dont like sitting in 95 degree heat to watch a shit team
Its really
not that great of a park…
Especially with all of these new ones.
When can we make the city of Arlington pay for another one? After they are finished paying for the Cowboys one?
I love Miley Cyrus.
I doubt they see a new one for another 15-25 years or so
but it isalready paid for. Folks think of TBIA as a new ballpark, but in reality, about half the ballparks are older (Camden, Fenway, Wrigley, White Sox, Marlins, Royals, Angels, Dodgers, Twinkies, Mets Yankees, As, Tropicana, Blue Jays). and half are younger. Three of the older ones have replacements under construction (Yankees, Mets, Twins). Believe it or not, TBiA is slipping into the list of the “older” parks in baseball.
I think if it upgraded concessions and the Jumbotron, it would bring it more inline with the newer ballparks.

RBiA is a great park.
I’m a northeastern boy. I’ve been to Yankee Stadium, Fenway, and (ugh) Shea.
Obviously, all very old parks.
Fenway is a fantastic place to watch a game, very personal. Yankee Stadium is very overrated. Shea is absolutely terrible.
RBiA is a great place to watch a game, don’t take it for granted, believe me!
I loved every second I spent in the DFW during the summer of ‘06. If I was single and not becoming a father in July, I’d move there.
You haven't been out much
to the newer ballparks I take it.
"Before I leave, I once again condemn the despicable buffoonery of D.J. Cahill." - Huck
No, not so much.
I just really enjoyed RBiA.
Soon, I’ll get to check out the new Yankee Stadium and CitiPark. That will probably change things, I’m sure.
thoughts
-have some kind of “local” stuff in the park – joe t’s or something of that nature
-bring back shiner (all over the park if possible?)
-more chuck morgan! (does he still post here? or was he censored like CJ)
any more ideas?

for those who remember the old Arlington Stadium
RBiA is a friggin’ cathedral…
I’ve been to a lot of AL parks and a few NL parks and RBiA is a great place. They could improve a few things, (concessions, jumbotron, etc) but it really is a great place to watch a game as long as it isn’t a day game in late July.
I sometimes miss those bleachers in the old Arlington Stadium… no, really…
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
aw cmon
those bleachers were pretty kickass when you’re a rowdy kid. everyone stomping made that freight train type sound

The ballpark is great, but it’s definitely behind the times. Like others have said, what’s most lacking is the food department.
When I went to Philly, you could get damn tasty cheesesteak sandwiches from famous restaurants. The lines were horrendous for the best foods though.
If the Rangers offered a Joe T Garcia’s counter, you can bet people would be lining up for 30minutes for fajitas no doubt.
It’s too bad though, I wonder if the Rangers contract with Aramark or Sportservice or whoever… I wonder how long that contract lasts and if ownership would even consider allowing outside vendors into the ballpark.
Didn’t the Front Row Grill (don’t know the name now) used to be Friday’s?
Ballparks clearly worse than TBiA
I don’t expect to get much argument from these
1) Tropicana- Worst Ballpark in Baseball, fitting for Tampa Bay
2) TwinkieDome-Hefty Garbage Bag outfield walls. ‘nuff said.
3) Shea-Everything bad about the mid60s mid 70s multiuse facilities.
4) McAfee Coliseum The place is a dump, befitting Oakland.
5) Dolphin Stadium-All the warmth and ambience of a football stadium
6) The New Comiskey-Last truly bad ballpark built.
7) LAAAAAofAAAAA-Whatever they are calling this piece of junk these days. Instead of upgrading, they should have dynamited.
There are ballparks that are arguably worse than TBiA, but I don’t think there is much of an argument for those 7. Those are all fairly bad ballparks.
