4/5 minors
Ballard had a really nice looking line today for Frisco. 6 ip, 2er, 5 hits, 1 bb, and 6 k. I remember he had a real nice first start last year as well.
Teagarden had a blast and 2 walks (and a stolen base!), Max also went deep.
Evan Reed is currently cruising. 5 ip, 3 hits, 1 bb, and 6 ks. Zeros on the scoreboard. Cristian Santana with a couple hits and an rbi as DH.
Feliz starts the nightcap for Clinton.
OKC lineup is posted and I can't for the life of me figure out why my man Boggs is buried in the 8th spot while Ellison is hitting leadoff (and playing CF) and Arias is hitting 6th. Watch out for double B tonight.

Engel Beltre may be injured.
He was pulled after Clinton hit in the 1st. He grounded out to 2nd in the 1st. I haven't heard anything, though. I can't confirm whether he's been injured or not.

The radio guys are kinda baffled
Beltre didn't appear to be injured. They suspect that when Beltre led off the bottom of the first by swinging at the 1st pitch and grounding out to short it ticked off Micucci who yanked him. We'll see if Beltre starts the 2nd game of the DH tonight.

No injury mentioned
in the post-game. Just said "he was lifted" from the game.
by Chris Hanes on Apr 5, 2008 6:52 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Would've like to hear that he was lifted for a specific reason, like disciplinary.
He could be unwilling to go into detail in order avoid embarrassment to Beltre. It couldn't be a trade, could it?

A couple of more things that worry me about Beltre being pulled.
Navarro (Rays) is injured, but it isn't serios.
Paul Bako (Reds) has is 0 for 3 in chances to throw out runners.
Apparently the Tigers are looking for relief help, but I can't think of anyone on the Tigers farm that would be worth Beltre.
I must be too concerned about this. I can't imagine the Rangers putting Beltre in a trade for anything less than a prospect stud.

Beltre
Back in CF and listed as the leadoff hitter in game 2 of the DH - probably a disciplinary yank by Micucci.

Just heard it too.
Worry is waste of imagination.

When I was in Surprise
Engel told me the Rangers really wanted him to work on seeing some more pitches at the plate. It wouldn't surprise me if Micucci flat out told him "if you swing at the first pitch, you're done for the game".

Question
Brandon Boggs in LF? With Ellison in CF (makes some sense) and Mench in RF (makes no sense)? What is that about?
by Adam J. Morris on Apr 5, 2008 8:23 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I was trying to figure that out last night
I don't understand it either.
by JasonCole on Apr 5, 2008 8:27 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
trying to get BB some time at the other OF positions so when they cut/trade byrd?
he's seen some angles on the ball from LF and RF?
just throwing out stuff...

Actually I think...
that is what they are doing. It makes sense as well. You know Boggs will not start with the Rangers if/when he comes up. He will need to play all OF positions and be a 4th Ofer.

From the Redhawks 4/5 gamenotes:
Boggs is recovering from a minor hand injury sustained earlier this week
Maybe it's in consideration of his injury.

Neftali Feliz
Per Danny Clark, the Clinton pitching coach, in Feliz' last appearance at extended Spring Training he was hitting 99/100 mph. Feliz faced 10 batters. He struck out all 10.

Quite a power trio in Holland, Reed, Feliz.
So far, 12 innings 15 K out of Holland, Reed. Maybe Feliz can double that K number.

Feliz
Definitely going to have to listen in if he is pitching the night cap.

I'm really looking forward to seeing
how Feliz does. He's an exciting prospect.

Final Four
Anyone pick Memphis-Kansas?
Anyone pick Memphis-UNC?
I had Kansas-Texas. Oh well.
by rooster on Apr 5, 2008 6:51 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I had...
Memphis - UNC...
Of course, I don't really follow much more than FSU basketball (which isn't much to follow), so my entire bracket was done pretty blindly... other than the fact that I knew Memphis was nearly undefeated this year.

Madrigal
40 man roster or no?
Scott Lucas says yes, Rangers website says no.
by Chris Hanes on Apr 5, 2008 7:12 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I'm pretty sure he has to be...
because the Angels didn't have him on theirs in order to protect him. I would imagine the Rangers would have to in order to protect him from signing anywhere else.

You're right though....
I only count 38 on the Rangers website

I think yes
Otherwise, couldn't another team have picked him in the rule five? I think he's on there.

I remember seeing him
on the Ranger's website 40 during ST, so I think something's just messed up on there, right now.

Mathis..
Was awesome tonight! Until he appeared to get tired in the 8th I'd go so far as to say he overpowered the Memphis lineup. A couple of his hits were plays where the defender got to the ball but couldn't field it cleanly...

Evan Reed
is a guy i'm real excited about. I think he's going to shoot up the prospect ladder this year.
The Eagle has landed....

He's definitely been overshadowed this offseason.
I wish we could've heard as much about him as some others.

That Reed / Walden matchup
may be one that appears much more appealing later on this year.

Ian Gac
just hit a monster HR, his second of the game and third of the year.

Hey Shroom
I don't ever hear too much about Gac, but he seems to have quite a lot of power? 2 more HR's last night....what does he project as? Do you think we'll see him soon in AAA or the Bigs?
Ya....That's Real Mature.
by SMITTY on Apr 6, 2008 10:21 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think
he'll be doing good to still be in the Rangers system next year. He turns 23 right at season's end. I guess best case scenario is that he has Nate Gold's career - Gold turned 23 in Clinton, too.
BTW, good baseball cube search tip - type the players name, then "cube" into google - the first site returned is usually the player's baseball cube homepage - a real time saver that one.
