Sunday a.m. things
2-3, tied for last with the M's in the A.L. West. Still, I'm encouraged by what I've seen thusfar from the rotation, and you have to think, if the starters keep pitching like this, it is going to be a good year.
Evan Grant's game story focuses on Kevin Millwood breaking the no-CG-streak that the Rangers have had, and the solid performance the Rangers have gotten from their starters so far.
Grant has some notes that discusses the infield situation, with the Rangers possibly being in a situation where they'd need to add a backup infielder, given that after Ramon Vazquez, the backup infielder available is Adam Melhuse. Grant says they'd probably have to clear space on the 40 man to do so, though, given that the team doesn't want to call up German Duran just so he can sit on the bench, and given that Joaquin Arias isn't 100% yet.
Grant also has some injury updates, saying that Franklyn German was bothered by a stiff back on Friday but is expected to be available today, Brandon McCarthy has started throwing again, Thomas Diamond is supposed to throw three innings in a game on Thursday after throwing a simulated game yesterday, and Luis Mendoza is pitching for Oklahoma on Monday.
Jim Reeves says someone will sign Barry Bonds, and if Ron Washington had his druthers, it would be the Rangers. Tom Hicks, however, apparently has put the kibosh on any Bonds signing, although Jon Daniels is quoted as saying that it was an "organizational decision."

Edinson Volquez factoid
He's debuting for Cincy today.
Exactly one year ago, April 6th 2007, Volquez started for Bakersfield and got Lancaster'ed.

The guy in the vid looks like Dirk Hayhurst, who does the 'diary of a non-prospect' for Baseball America.

German Duran
I don't think he's on the 40-man roster either.

Wash...
said he was thinking about starting Botts today. Decided to stick with Broussard though, ugh. The guy can't even buy 1 start at first. Meanwhile if Wash won't start Botts and Cat the bench is very limited.
In related news, the Giants are looking for a left-handed first basemen.

I say the Rangers see what they would offer. I think the Rangers have to listen to offers all year for certain players. Cat, Byrd, BB, Eddie G, JJ, OMFT, Board Game, and even Millwood and Padilla if they pitch really well and their trade value skyrockets.
I like Wash, and defend him often as many of you know, but I don't like how he is falling in love with BB and willing to play him every day. He should not be starting against lefties, and should be pinch hit for late in a game if a lefty comes in.

Broussard...
Aside from being our team leader in RBI and HR, I don't see why Wash would want to keep running him out there every day. ;)

Well not to mention
Maybe the Rangers see something in Botts we don't see. If he were as good as all of us think he is he would play. I think the Rangers are letting the Hafner trade scare them into keeping him. IMO

What's the difference...
between Bonds this year and Sosa last year?
Talented hitters, sure they used steroids, but then, so did a large percentage of this generation's MLB players.
Just about the only difference is Hamilton, Bonds, Bradley, Blalock would be a hell of a 3-6 compared to Hamilton, Sosa, Bradley, Blalock.

Sosa can play a position
and actually play it.
That, and he's not going to be arrested at any second... he won't poison the clubhouse... oh, and that whole $20 million thing.
