Per Jamey - Tejeda passes through waivers
I'm a little surprised one of the other teams didn't take a flier on him. I'm glad he is still in the org but he really touches on the thing I hate most about Rangers pitchers through this decade; they can't find the strike zone...ever. That's my biggest pet peeve about following this team through the past 17 years I've been watching them. THROW STRIKES!
Walks are evil.

Either that
Or this is the correct time to be putting guys through waivers, because other teams already have their early-season rosters set, and aren't going to upset them just to add someone who was DFA'd by another team.

Right around the time all the young talent is ready to contend is when the organization will realize that Ron Washington is the wrong man for the job.
Ill take it, if Nippert fails maybe Tejeda could step
in. And yeah, why cant they ever find the strike zone. Ryan was the only one who did find it consistantly.

No
Ryan was the only one who did find it consistantly.
Ryan averaged 3.78 walks per 9 innings as a Ranger, vs. a league average of 3.37 during that time.
Ryan's biggest flaw was that he didn't throw strikes consistently.

Yep.
It's almost like Ryan brought with him the complete disregard for throwing strikes in effort to K people.

I didnt realize that AJ,
I figured he would have had more respect for the strike zone being that he is the strikeout king and all. But nonetheless, a strange stat I must say.

good for us
I think. the more pitching the better - especially when they're not soft tossers like Koronka was.
I think this was perfect timing to run the kid through waivers...really am glad we're 2 for 2 with Cruz and Tejeda - but I realize the rest of the guys here that aren't fans of those two will just use this as an "I told you so" moment to say how other teams don't value them and we shouldn't either
"No, Donny, these men are nihilists, there's nothing to be afraid of."
The way I look at it is
that they're fortunate that things worked out this way. Nippert probably doesn't pan out, but they might not have risked exposing Tejeda if not for him, and you would obviously much rather have a free year at AAA with him than have him occupy a spot in the pen and have to worry about surviving rather than working on things. And I guess Nippert could still turn things around, though the same thing is true of him, probably, that he'd be a lot better off pitching ina a relaxed, lower pressure, less competitive situation.
Nippert
I'm thinking Nippert needs to go on the DL with an "injury" and spend his 30 days in the minors to "rehab." He needs to get innings to try to work out some kinks. Maybe he won't be able to fix things but at least he can get more consistent innings giving us a better picture of where he is at. Hopefully he will succeed and gain some confidence.
Tejeda
The rebuilding Giants were crazy to pass on Tejeda so that they could keep Keiichi Yabu in middle relief, and the Pirates should have happily exchanged Rule-5 pick Evan Meek for him. There's a couple of other teams that also would have been smart to make a move. Since none of them realized it, the Rangers will keep the hard-throwing right-hander.

Prediction...
Tejeda will be in the Rangers pen for good before the end of the year.

Wow
Not even the Tigers wanted him. And they are try pass off Francis Beltran and Denny Bautista as major league pitchers.
Ha- maybe we get too much credit
For having such a bad staff that if we release someone they must be trash right? You almost think that to be true when Tejeda gets through when several teams probably could have used him.

well
a team could have seen that the rangers picked up nippert and were willing to lose Tejeda and just assumed that Tejeda must have some mental issues that were sort of alluded to in the media. Then of course they look at his control problems too. But, having the rangers give you up probably does not speak so highly of you.

Or maybe Daniels deserves some credit for correctly reading the tea leaves
He took a calculated risk. It paid off.

Concur...
but I think they put him in AAA and he's in the pen by mid-season. Tejeda is older than Volquez was, and I don't think the Rangers have the same patience with him that they had with Volquez last year. Just my view of things.
