he's been very good all season...
but Turco would probably win the Vezina trophy in a unanimous vote if he played with the Red Wings’ defense corps/defensive system in front of him. They have a tendency to make their goalies look a little better than they actually are. Osgood has also been made to look a bit better by the fact that Hagman and Co. seem to love the sound of vulcanized rubber hitting plexiglass behind the net.
With that said, Osgood is a very solid goaltender. He knows their system better than anybody, and he plays very confident behind their defense. The Stars’ only hope is that they can find a way to disrupt the Detroit defense’s transition game. It’s killing Dallas right now (as it has for…. 11 years or so). It’s very difficult for the Stars to create offensive zone time because no matter how they get the puck in, once a Detroit defenseman gains control, it’s out within seconds. There’s no puck battle to try and regain control. It’s just out and headed towards Turco. They don’t call em a puck possession team for nothing.

Ribeiro needs to step it up
Richards and Modano have been carrying the puck decently well and creating scoring opportunities, but Ribeiro hasn’t initiated a lot of offense—outside that one nifty move he had crossing the blue line and ripping a slap shot.
Also, Morrow and Ott need some help on the forecheck scrapping for those pucks, as you mention.
I think Dallas played well in game 2 though and I’m holding out hope for this series, still. They certainly skated much better than they did in game 1.

Osgood == product of a system
Osgood is a fine goalie. He generally makes almost all of the saves he should make and some of the ones that he isn’t “supposed” to make.
Watching the playoffs, it’s pretty clear that whichever team comes out of the West has about a 95% chance of winning the Stanley Cup. Obviously, Philly isn’t that good of a team and Pittsburgh can’t move the puck well out of their zone and has a tendency to turn the puck over at their offensive blue line. Against a team like the Wings, that will lead to a lot of goals against.
As a Wings fan, I was really surprised by how they dominated Game 1. I thought Game 2 was a lot more interesting of a game (at least what I saw of it) and I think the Stars will look much better at home for a couple of reasons.
First, they’ll have the last change, which means that they’ll be much more able to get the matchups they want. Chelios doesn’t make as many stupid mistakes as he did a few years ago, but when the opposing forwards start cycling, he’s pretty ineffective.
Second, just because of the heat/humidity, the ice in Dallas almost certainly won’t be nearly as good as in Detroit. For a puck possession team like the Wings, having a choppy ice surface makes it really tough to break out of the zone the way they like to do. For example, there’s no way that the Wings would have scored the fourth goal in Game 1 if the ice was a little slushy, since the pass from Rafalski to Samuelsson would have been really tough to complete as cleanly as it did.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Dallas took both games at home. From the Wings perspective, this isn’t like last round when you knew that Colorado wouldn’t win four games unless it was a best-of-23. The Stars aren’t as badly injured as the Avalanche and their players are better anyways.

I'd like it
Particularly since my company’s building is right on Woodward Ave (where the parade route would go), so I’d get a great view of the parade without having to buck the crowds.
Ironically, the company I work for is owned by the same guy who owns the Carolina Hurricanes (who has a very non-friendly rivalry with the owner of the Red Wings).

Yep. Ilitch is the Wings' owner
He also owns the Tigers.
He bought the Wings back in 1982 for $8mil. Not a bad investment (although the Wings sucked beyond belief back then).
