High Fidelity

one of my favorite movies…

by JBImaknee on May 12, 2008 11:37 AM CDT reply actions

is this the movie

where a guy walks in and says something like “fck you (points at someone), fck you, (points at someone), f*ck you (points at someone), you’re cool, I’m out.”

If so, I’d like to see that clip…

What?

How could you get those two movies confused. Do you even watch movies?

by SaltyGoesYard on May 12, 2008 3:04 PM CDT up reply actions

wa wa wa

I’m a spring chicken. I’m not as old as you fogies.
These movies are before my time.

Actually

I just went to his myspace, which is on his profile page. It says he is 29. If thats the case, then this situation is much worse than I originally anticipated

by SaltyGoesYard on May 12, 2008 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions

touche.

Guess I just never saw it.
Not really into those type of movies—not really sure what “those type” of movies are though.

yeah, I figured the myspace link

would be used against me in my “spring chicken” argument. I guess I just thought of those movies as indie-type, pot smokin movies, that weren’t really my bag. Probably a good movie I just haven’t seen; wouldn’t be the first time.

Well not really used against you

But it did backfire considering you replied to my post using the terms spring chicken and that you are not an old fogie like us.

Only thing is you turned out to be 29, while I am only 23. So im actually the spring chicken, your the old fogie and this movie was EXACTLY in your time, not before it.

ha.

that’s it I’m old I can’t live this life anymore.

Love this movie

the group of friends that I have, we all met in college and we’re all music snobs and we quote from this movie all the time. Anytime someone asks a question and no one knows the answer, someone will invariably pop-off “Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels?” or “[it’s] about girls. right?”

Great book, too..

Music snob?

Me too or used to be more than now. Just don’t have the time or energy to argue or really care.

One of my...

All time favorite movies from Cusack

That and Grosse Point Blank make it possible to overlook his other efforts like Serendipity and Must Love Dogs

Anyone read his new book? I think it’s about a teenage father or something. I haven’t read it yet. Waiting for the paperback.

Always hated this movie

A bunch of unlikable snobs who quantify their lives in what kind of lists they put together, acting like their nuanced tastes is a genuine substitute for personality or character.

Huh

The book is one of my favorite books ever, and I feel like the character of Rob really spoke to me. I felt I could really identify with him and what he was dealing with.

by Adam J. Morris on May 12, 2008 3:13 PM CDT up reply actions

I might've liked the movie more if John Cusack wasn't involved

to me, there is absolutely no nuance in any of his characters, it feels like the same damn one in every film.

But in particular, especially the last time I watched this, a couple of months ago, was that while in the end he finally acted like a person, that character-wise he hid in the list and mixtape-making rather than actually deal with emotions and grow as a human. The exploration into the past wasn’t any true personal reclamation project so much as it was list perfection and reexamination.

Maybe I need to read the book.
