Monday a.m. things
Well, the streak had to end eventually, and yesterday's game was a game that the Rangers definitely did not deserve to win.
There's not a whole lot out there this morning.
Evan Grant's game story has quotes from Sidney Ponson saying that he just didn't have any command today, which turned him into a flyball pitcher.
Marlon Byrd could be activated on Tuesday, which would likely result in Travis Metcalf being sent down to AAA.
Gil LeBreton says the Rangers need to get more from Kevin Millwood.

Byrd...
Good news, hopefully he is finally healthy.

Bad news is...
...Byrd will be coming back. Not to mention his first four at-bats were all Ks. Awesome.

Really bad news is...
...Wash will be only too happy to take ABs away from Murphy to get this spare into the lineup.
Right around the time all the young talent is ready to contend is when the organization will realize that Ron Washington is the wrong man for the job.

Murphy...
I’m ok with Byrd starting against LH pitchers rather than Murphy right now.

Ponson
I’ll take 2 good starts out of 3 any day. Sadly, long term I think we get more games like that as opposed to near shutouts…

Ponson
I was at the game yesterday, and can absolutely agree with that report. The guy sitting behind me asked me if Ponson was supposed to be a fly ball pitcher. His first eight outs came on fly balls before Cat made a nice stab at a lined shot to first.
I heard the radio reports mention that Joaquin, CJ, and Josh Rupe were unavailable for this game, so I suppose that I can’t criticize Wash for handing the ball to Franklyn German (who had yet another atrocious outing, despite his line numbers).
I dunno if the TV replays helped, but there were two close calls at second base (Salty thrown out at second in the third, and a close play by Vazquez, throwing the ball to second on a safe call that went Oakland’s way). Everyone in the stands thought the second base umpire was terrible.

can you really disagree with Gil,
I mean the ace of this staff has been constantly nagged by a groin or hamstring injury since he has been here. It is getting very annoying.

Of course Gil is right
But how do you get more than is there? Hopefully a short DL stint will help Millwood get it together.

Wasn't he nagged
by injuries before he signed here? Had he been consistently great before he was here, I’m sure one of the big money franchises would have snapped him up.

Saltalamacchia and SBs
Question for those who watched the game…
I noted something like 5 stolen bases against Salty in the box score. Was Oakland running off of him or off of Eddie and German? Considering that they were against 3 different pitchers, I am suspecting that Oakland saw something in Salty’s arm that should have us worried.
For those who watched the game – should we be worried about all those SBs?

Salty
the two SBs in the 7th came after German had Ellis picked off 1st. Young botched the rundown and Crosby stole home and Ellis stole 2nd.

Gagne loses closer role...
Ned Yost on Sunday announced that he is relieving Eric Gagne of his closer duties
after he allowed the go ahead runs in the ninth against the Cardinals on Saturday.
Gagne told reporters he does “not deserve that night inning right now”.
Gagne has 9 saves, but has blown 5 and has a 6.89 era. I wonder what happened to him? The poor thing fell apart after he left the Rangers – it usually works the other way.
