Teixeira has back spasms
Buried in the notes from the opener of the doubleheader between the Pirates and Braves, which Pittsburgh won 5-0, is this...
Notes:
Braves 1B Mark Teixeira left in the fourth inning with back spasms on a cloudy, chilly 48-degree day.
Thought Rangers fans might find that interesting... we'll see if it sticks around or if it's just for one day. If it's a nagging problem... the trade keeps looking better and better.
Oh, a little tip for people when using the "quote" function... copy what you want, paste it in, then type whatever you want to go after it. Then, highlight what you want in the quote box, then press the button.

I know it's a popular opinion
I am not just picking on you here Jon but what in the hell did Teixeira ever do to warrant this kind of reaction from Rangers fans? While I don’t agree with it I can almost see the reason for the ARod hatred but I just don’t get it when it comes to Teixeira.

I don't know
Back when the trade was made, I thought I’d still love Mark forever, and he’d be an honored ex-Ranger, but… as the months went by, and seeing how he toys with the Braves fans over his contract and stuff… the animosity has grown. Now I hate him. Weird, but true.

I dont blame him for turning down the rangers offer and making some iffy comments on the way out
If i were in his position i would probably do the same thing (at least the not taking the offer part).
But i think its natural for ranger fans to have some resentment over it.
Anyway i liked tex to much to dislike him now, but im kind of neutral.

although
the thought of a kinsler-young-hamilton-teixeira-bradley-blalock-salty-murphy-boggs lineup is pretty… awesome.
good trade still of course, but with the emergence of hamilton as a centerpiece kind of hitter, having our old one back makes for an interesting hypothetical.

I think it would be rather ironic if some kind of nagging injury caused him to make less than the Ranger’s offer.
Not that I’m wishing it upon the guy, I just love irony.

I’d like to have Salty and Tex too. Not sure what the Braves would ask for to keep both though.

He's A Bag, That's Why
I like the Rangers as a team more so than I like any individual player.
I have more dislike for Texeira than I have for A-Rod. A-Rod put up numbers while he was here. He may be a douchebag, but he’s a douchebag who delivered.
Texeira in July 2007 as a Ranger (injury abbreviated): 1 HR, 8 RBI
Texeira in August 2007 as a Brave: 10 HR, 32 RBI
A-Rod, douchebag that he was, homered 47 times, drove in 118 runs and slugged .600 his last year as a Ranger. I know you can’t compare Texeira’s numbers and situation with A-Rod’s numbers and situation, but I never felt like A-Rod mailed it in on the Rangers. I do feel like Texeira did in order to force a trade.
Plus he couldn’t even make it through the end of the season with Atlanta before he was being a douchebag about his contract. He’s got every right to go out and see how much he can shake down an owner for and I’ve got every right to call him a douchebag.
So there it is: Mark Texeira, former Gold Glove 1B, current douchebag.

Haha, yeah
Mark Teixeira … dude didn’t do a damn thing while he was here.
But yeah lets throw out 2 extremely random months, without any context, to prove … what? That he sucks?

i find myself
hating on Tex too, and i can’t really explain it. Maybe it’s Boras hate seeping thru. He just came off, at the end, like he was so much smarter than all the suckahs that would sign with the Rangers.

Heck
why not resign him, it’s not like the Rangers don’t have the payroll room or a need. Currently, there is a Black Hole at 1st base. Maybe Chris Davis fills it and maybe he doesn’t.

Given how it all went down
wouldn’t that take Henry Kissinger or a special UN commission to negotiate? I think the Rangers would have to seriously outbid to get him, like LAA did with Hunter this winter. Given the paucity of good players available on the FA market next winter, he is in for a very big payday, and the Rangers are probably better off rolling with Davis and targeting an outfielder and/or a pitcher.

your probably right
It’s pretty unlikely that the Rangers would pay that much, the bottom line is money anyway, whatever BS Tex or his agent claim. Might as well try out Davis and find out about that first. Spend the money elsewhere, after Zito however, I would be afraid to spend much on a long term ptiching contract.
