you need innings so you take him out at 81 pitches?

i know the game is on the line here but its rupe coming in not frankie

Gerald Laird is my hero.

by DSheppard on May 13, 2008 8:45 PM CDT   0 recs

It

probably has to do with the fact that Gabbard is just off the DL, and quite fragile

by FirebatM3 on May 13, 2008 8:46 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah

That and he was about to melt down.

Lets get this

innings over without any damage.

by coolaid on May 13, 2008 8:46 PM CDT   0 recs

yay new thread

game day threads get so slow after 350 posts or so…

Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.

by WhipSmart on May 13, 2008 8:47 PM CDT   0 recs

At least...

...he didn’t get a helmet thrown at him tonight. :)

by baseballismyboyfriend on May 13, 2008 8:47 PM CDT   0 recs

Damn it Hamilton

Just cost the Rangers a run there

by Gdawg1 on May 13, 2008 8:49 PM CDT   0 recs

he held onto the ball

and started jogging off the field as if there were 3 outs already. If he throws it in after catching it, no way Cairo can tag and make it to home plate. At the very least, its a play at the plate

by Gdawg1 on May 13, 2008 8:50 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

No way he gets him

Ball was deep enough and he was moving backwards when he caught the ball because it was hit on a line. Not a chance that he throws him out at the plate.

by robert_d_wilfong on May 13, 2008 8:51 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

and that run goes against Gabbard...

Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.

by WhipSmart on May 13, 2008 8:49 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

My guess is...

...the runner would have scored anyway…

by Adam J. Morris on May 13, 2008 8:50 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Hamilton has a great arm though

This isn’t Lofton playing CF for us anymore

I guess we'll never know...

I don’t know what he was thinking.. hmmm

Might have had something to do with the sprinkles

But still, that was a lousy play.

Great move by Washington

Take Gabbard out of the game so Rupe can let the runs score and tie the game up

by Gdawg1 on May 13, 2008 8:52 PM CDT   0 recs

I'm not sure that's how we want to phrase that

It’s more like it was taken away from him.

by Inkara1 on May 13, 2008 8:52 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

i would have much preferred to let him lose it himself

unless they had predetermined the low pitch count for health, in which case i guess theres just not much you can do.

Gerald Laird is my hero.

by DSheppard on May 13, 2008 8:53 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

another well pitched game from Gabbard

And he ends up getting screwed. Its like when Millwood starting pitching poorly, the baseball gods had to find a new sucker in the Rangers rotation.

by Gdawg1 on May 13, 2008 8:53 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

murphy

I been thinking about this for a day or so. What would happen if the Rangers made Murphy a first baseman? could he do it? seems like it would serve several purposes. It would get some hitting there where we really haven’t had any since Tex was traded and he is left handed. It was also free up a spot in the out field. So, flame me if you want, I am just thinking out loud.

One of the biggest reasons

Murphy has value is his OF defense. By putting him at first, you make him a WAY below average first basemen when he could be an average OF.

by FirebatM3 on May 13, 2008 8:53 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Offensively...

...I don’t think he’s really an upgrade over Cat, as a 1B against RHP.

by Adam J. Morris on May 13, 2008 8:55 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

murphy

just asking I got no problem with him in the OF just trying out different scenarios.

thanks,

We need another pen arm

if we’re not going to use Metcalf, might as well use someone like Littleton up so he can eat some innings

Nothing

pisses me off than a reliever that can’t throw strikes.

I’d rather run Mathis out there

by FirebatM3 on May 13, 2008 8:55 PM CDT   0 recs

I agree

If these guys can not throw strikes they do not belong on a major league roster.

by Jea103 on May 13, 2008 8:57 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I wondered...

...if they would bring Clement in now that the lefty is gone.

the bullpen is so torched maybe it is the only choice, but god…

by WhipSmart on May 13, 2008 8:58 PM CDT   0 recs

Finally...

I’d hate to put this on Wash, but I just can’t think of many times where I’ve seen him make the right call out of the bullpen. It might be bad luck, but after a while, you either have to replace every arm you have or put the blame on the manager.

by Gdawg1 on May 13, 2008 8:58 PM CDT   0 recs

aside from the past 4 or so days

ive really had very little problem with his bullpen management.

and the last 4 days have been a little compromised by the SP stuff.

Gerald Laird is my hero.

by DSheppard on May 13, 2008 9:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

eh

Going back to the beginning of the season, he seems to always make the wrong call. Its either pulling a SP to early, pulling him too late, bringing in the guy that blows a lead, or w/e. Outside of a nice stretch in the beginning of the month, I don’t think Wash has done that well of a job.

he had two very short outtings sandwiched around a DL stint. I wouldn’t have expected him to throw alot of pitches tonight.
