It

probably has to do with the fact that Gabbard is just off the DL, and quite fragile

by FirebatM3 on May 13, 2008 8:46 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

That and he was about to melt down.

Damn it Hamilton

Just cost the Rangers a run there

by Gdawg on May 13, 2008 8:49 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

he held onto the ball

and started jogging off the field as if there were 3 outs already. If he throws it in after catching it, no way Cairo can tag and make it to home plate. At the very least, its a play at the plate

by Gdawg on May 13, 2008 8:50 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No way he gets him

Ball was deep enough and he was moving backwards when he caught the ball because it was hit on a line. Not a chance that he throws him out at the plate.

Great move by Washington

Take Gabbard out of the game so Rupe can let the runs score and tie the game up

another well pitched game from Gabbard

And he ends up getting screwed. Its like when Millwood starting pitching poorly, the baseball gods had to find a new sucker in the Rangers rotation.

murphy

I been thinking about this for a day or so. What would happen if the Rangers made Murphy a first baseman? could he do it? seems like it would serve several purposes. It would get some hitting there where we really haven’t had any since Tex was traded and he is left handed. It was also free up a spot in the out field. So, flame me if you want, I am just thinking out loud.

One of the biggest reasons

Murphy has value is his OF defense. By putting him at first, you make him a WAY below average first basemen when he could be an average OF.

I’d hate to put this on Wash, but I just can’t think of many times where I’ve seen him make the right call out of the bullpen. It might be bad luck, but after a while, you either have to replace every arm you have or put the blame on the manager.

Going back to the beginning of the season, he seems to always make the wrong call. Its either pulling a SP to early, pulling him too late, bringing in the guy that blows a lead, or w/e. Outside of a nice stretch in the beginning of the month, I don’t think Wash has done that well of a job.

have a runner on 3rd with one out and a run scores on a single or a sac fly. Your hatred of the bunt is getting in the way of you seeing a smart baseball move.

by lonestarJon on May 13, 2008 9:13 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

it didn't kill the chances

but it did pretty much ensure the chance that we at least get 1 run, and now we are no longer tied.

by geetar85 on May 13, 2008 9:15 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

this isn't a shootout

it is late in the game and it is low scoring. praying on a big inning is not the smart move. you take the one run and let the back of your bullpen hold on to it. if the3y don’t so be it. but you don’t pass up an almost sure run because your bullpen has given up a few runs in the previous games. God you would be a terrible manager

by geetar85 on May 13, 2008 9:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

On the other hand

If it were Hamilton, yeah, it would be stupid to bunt… but Shelton’s not a heavy hitter and he seems ot be having beginner’s luck with the bunts.

by Inkara1 on May 13, 2008 9:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah exactly

with a runner on 3rd and one out the run scores on a hit or sac fly.

with a runner on 2nd and 0 out there are too many ways the runner doesn’t move at all. ground ball to the left side, fly ball to shallow right or center, pretty much any fly to left field, and a single does not guarantee a run scores anyway.

by bigsteve on May 13, 2008 9:19 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

by geetar85 on May 13, 2008 9:08 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

For the few who are hitting like Shelton

I can live with a bunt. I don’t agree with giving the out guaranteed, but when you have less than a 20% chance to move the runner, I can live with moving the runner over from third.

But I think it is a nice way to reward pitchers who have pitched well enough to earn one. I hate seeing the stupidity of the stat screw over guys like Gabbard who didn’t give up a single run but the pitcher after him gave up 2 and now won’t get a W no matter what happens.

Runs should be split

Why can’t the pitcher that put the runner on take half of the run and the pitcher than allowed the run to score take the other half. As for who gets the W or L, it should be the guy that was pitching when the run scored, imo.

by robert_d_wilfong on May 13, 2008 9:15 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

it should

count as an unearned run. Its not the original pitcher’s fault that another guy let the baserunners score, but its not the new pitcher’s fault that he came into the game with runners on base.

whether your playing small ball, big ball, swing andpray, t-ball how bunting in a tie game in the 6th inning with your bullpen pitching is a good play? go ahead tell me and just because it works once doesnt make it right

you’d be out. You have to hit it out of the circle around the tee.

by robert_d_wilfong on May 13, 2008 9:54 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

win

thats what the game is about. And to win you have to score more runs than the other team. While sitting around and waiting for a 5 run inning may be fun the simple fact is in a low scoring game in the 6th inning you take the runs when they are available. And you have a much much higher chance of scoring a run with a man on 3rd and 1 out with the bottom of your lineup coming up than a man on 2nd and 0 out with the bottom of your lineup coming up.
