Hank not playing tonight
Hank Blalock reported tightness in his hamstring today, and thus was scratched from his scheduled rehab start with Frisco, per the S-T.
I'm not really concerned...him being back this soon seemed pretty aggressive, and hamstring injuries are the type of thing you want to avoid pushing, so him possibly not being activated until next week isn't a problem, I don't think...

it was kind of out of nowhere when we heard he could be back this weeekend
i was still thinking 2 more weeks if not more.
so its kind of disappointing for a minor setback, but yeah… not that big of a deal.

OT: Colon
looks like he is going to debut for the red sox. Done alright in 2 pawtucket starts and he’s touched 95. sigh.

I wish the Rangers had signed him

At the time
Colon’s health looked a lot more questionable than Jennings. It’s taken him this long just to be ready to pitch – the Rangers weren’t looking for someone who’d be ready in May, they wanted someone who’d be ready opening day.
Granted, Jennings turned out to be a bust, but at the time he was the more sensible move.
If we’re really that desperate for another pitcher this year, I hear Freddy Garicia should be ready sometime around the ASB.

No Jon
Not desperate for Fat Freddy Garicia. Just saying if you are going to take a flier on a pitcher on a one year deal go for the guy that has had a proven track record. I know Harpo Colon was fat, out of shape and coming off a bad year but Jennings was a bust last year after the trade even before he got hurt.

Have you seen what Colon did last year? Or, really, since signing with Anaheim? He’s had one good year, 2005, and otherwise has been a major disappointment.

I understand Adam
I just felt like Jennings need more time and some rehab starts coming off his injury instead of throwing him right into the rotation. That is why I like what the Red Sox have done with Colon. Granted they have the pitching depth to wait for him.

Look it is
Just my opinion. Look at all the people that wanted to get rid of Feldman he has had what 3 quality starts? That was just their opinion but I’m glad to see him get another chance with the Rangers.
If it were up to me I would have ran several of the young starters out there after Milly and Pads if the Rangers are in a true rebuild mode instead of signing either Colon or Jennings.

yep yep you got it boomer1
there has to be SOMEONE better than Jennings down on the farm that could be gaining some valuable experience. I’m tired of watching these has-beens throw these batting practice pitches every 5 days. Let’s either go full throttle re-build or get off the re-build pot.

Colon/Jennings
Colon has a lifetime ERA+ of 112 as opposed to Jennings 97. Colon also has won a CY Award albeit a few years ago but he has been good through out his career. Jennings has been lighting it us the last couple of years either.

Frisco
doesn’t seem to need him. 7-2 in the 7th.
Beastitron Davis is 3-3 with 2 2B and a walk.

What constitutes a lot?
He has 5 walks in his last 10 games. I’ll give you the K’ing a lot less, though, only 5 of those in the last 10, very nice.
I think Davis donated most of his strikeouts to Christian Santana, who’s K rate is a staggering 62% in May, and 45% overall.
...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.

I was at the game...
He hit a line drive 2B that drove in two, as well as another 2B and a beautifully laced single. He walked in his 4th PA. Then it started raining in the top of the 8th and we left. I got his autograph, along with Andrus’. It was a good night. lol.

As far as Davis goes...
Anyone think that Nate Gold is about to be put on the 40-man roster and Davis will take his place (permanently) in Oklahoma? Just a thought.

With Max apparently taking ground balls at first
plus the signing of Tim Gradoville, I would have to think a promotion for Davis is coming in the near future.

So do I...
I mean the man is hitting .322 coming into tonight’s game (which will obviously go up with the 3-3 performance), along with 10 HR and 33 RBI after the game. Pretty insane numbers at this point no matter where he’s playing. And he’s been with Frisco for about a year now, so with his play, there’s no doubt in my mind it’s time for a promotion.
My three favorite numbers: 10, 32, 36. =)

Davis
No need to rush him. He’s not that close to a year in at AA yet. He still needs to balance out his strikeouts and walks a little more. No need to rush him and have him be Billy Ashley. He’s still fairly young. I’d say give him until say, middle of July in Frisco, then up to Oklahoma and see where you are in September. If he’s swinging the bat well, let him have a taste of the big leagues at the end of the year. Then reevaluate at the end of the year.
His Frisco numbers over the last two years.
67 G, 259 AB, 46 R, 83 H, 17 2B, 22 HR, 58 RBI, 25 BB, 64 K, .320/.380/.641/1.021

it still would have been nice to see Hank at 3B tomorrow.
I must admit even though he has been hurt the last couple years, and has not produced like we all thought he would, he is still one of my favorite Rangers.

Yeah...
Maybe we can start doing that when the backbone of our pitching rotation isn’t Sidney Ponson and Scott Feldman, and when our bullpen gets it’s game back.
Don’t get me wrong, I love this hot streak, and I’m enjoying it… but I know this team. And I’m not confident in their ability to maintain this kind of play through the summer and into the end of the year whatsoever.

I went to the game tonight
There were a lot of upset people because Blalock didn’t play. Frisco destroyed Midland tonight. We saw Hank before the game and he was jogging around the outfield and stretching, so it didn’t look like there was anything wrong with him, we were surprised he wasn’t in the lineup. I wouldn’t be concerned.

Can Howie Mandel
Go away? Commercials, shitty game shows…
I loved Bobby’s World as much as anyone, but maybe he should go back to St. Elsewhere, to a time when I thankfully wasn’t alive/cognizant enough to be subjected to his sparedom.
I’d like to jam another glove on top of that silly cueball, too.
While I’m on the subject of shitty T.V. shows, did anybody else hear that a film version of 21 Jump Street is being made with Jonah Hill in the lead?
