Worst lineup in the AL right now...

A) Royals
B) Orioles
C) Blue Jays
D) A’s
E) Mariners

I will go with Oakland.

- 1

Any team that automatically inserts Whiffy hitting lead-off and Menchy hitting 6th has to take the award. I have to go with the Jays on this one.The only winner in Toronto this summer is the guy who sells liquor.

It's worse than you thought

Mench was batting in the 5 hole. Is Frank Thomas not having one of the worst years possible? The team fielding this line-up cut him. What a blow!

haha yeh I meant 5th...

which is pretty pathetic. We’ll take 2 ex-Ranger re-treads to fill in 2 of our top 5 spots please.
Talk about murderless row.

Mench

The first night they had Mench & Wilk in the lineup they were hitting 4 & 3 respectively with Rios leading off.

Disagree on Royals

Gathright is fast as hell, and watching Gordon progress is fun.

The Mariners take the cake. Clement = progress. The addition of Griffey would make them more enjoyable too.

Gathright...

I haven’t seen him run much because he is never on base. :P

OT: AL West

after the loss in the afternoone i never checked what happened that night since i was baseball depressed.

check the standings at 2:30 am to see we are 3.5 back

nice.

im not much of a marcum believer.

but I like where you are going. toronto doesnt appear to have much at catcher… if we could find something based around our catching depth and a pitching prospect to get a mcgowan or marcum… get on the phone JD!

Gerald Laird is my hero.

Riccardi is going to have to cut one of those guys loose if he wants some pop in his line-up...

and he better act fast if he wants to save his season. that team ranks in the bottom half of the league in almost every offensive category.

i’d almost be willing to package Hank in there (it’s becoming more likely he’ll be forced out of here by Andrus and Davis anyway). the Jays get a “close” arm, a catching prospect with power, and 3B / DH power duo in Rolen and Blalock.

Trade: Hank Blalock, Taylor Teagarden, Eric Hurley, Jason Botts

Get: Shawn Marcum (who is going to have a HUGE year).

Marcum:

30 hits allowed in 56.2.
49 strikeouts, only 16 walks

only given up 15 runs in 8 starts.

Somebody would have to get moved to the OF

and I doubt it would be Overbay.

nah man...

...put Blalock at third… and an aging Rolen at the DH spot…

upgrade over Matt Stairs?

"if he wants to save the season"

I have a feeling that Toronto’s season is already lost. Their record isn’t horrible, but I just cannot see that team going anywhere. Its hard enough to surpass Boston and/or New York any given year. But now that TB is on the rise, they really have no shot. Their only goal should be to beat out Baltimore for 4th place, or pray that the yankees fall off the map and they can snag 3rd.

Toronto’s best hope is to do what they are doing – pick up journeymen like Mench and Wilkerson, hope that one of them has a decent year that can net them something decent at the deadline. Probably won’t work out for them, but it is pretty much all they can do at this point.

the East and West are up for grabs, sir.

...the teams that lead those divisions… here… one quarter of the way through the season… are no better than five or six games over .500.

the Rangers and Blue Jays are both 20-22, i think. both, still very much alive in their respective divisions. realistically, things will change… but, here’s my thinking…

Rangers pitchers give up the most runs per game in baseball… something like five a game… worse than the Tigers… a good solid youngster like Marcum would help bring that down… i think the Jays still have him under control for two years and a half years. if they cut bait with him, i don’t think they lose much… they still have an excellent staff with Halladay, Burnett, Litsch and McGowan

as i said before… the Jays are in the bottom half of the league in every offensive category… and it won’t get any better with Vernon gone for awhile.

they get a good bat with Blalock, they get the promise of an arm not too far away… and they solve their weakness at catcher with Teagarden… and a disgruntled Botts…

we get a great young arm back… we don’t lose anything at catcher with Salty and Laird, we cut bait with Hank (who people are already talking about as if he’s gone)... i almost see it as Marcum for Hurley.

plug Vazquez at third until August… call up Andrus… plug him at short, move Michael to third… put Davis at first…

is that realisitic?

also...

Blalock becomes their new clean-up hitter… until Wells gets back… some 6-7 weeks from now.

This is not bad line of thinking, but Marcum has been a bit lucky this season

The dude has an unsustainable WHIP (0.81), and BABIP of .184. This screams regression. He is a finesse guy like Brian Bannister with a 87 mph fastball/cutter, and throws almost 50% off-speed pitches. He is not a natural ground ball pitcher, so he can’t get away with the smallest loss in command if he is to pitch in TBiA.

On the other hand, I would like to get my hands on Dustin McGowan

by Telegraph on May 16, 2008 2:15 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

yep... wouldn't mind that one bit either...

...i don’t know if it’s necessarily luck with Marcum. he pitched fairly well last season too. and that is what i’m going by, really… a young pitcher on the rise.

Blo Jays

It always seem like I read that McGowan has the better stuff but Marcum gets the results. If I’m the Rangers I’d be happy with either. They both seem to have passed up A.J. Burnett in the rotation pecking order.
