Tommy Hunter's a Rider (woooo woooo!)
I was scoping out the rosters on MiLB and he shows up on Frisco's roster. Can I get a WOOOOO WOOOOOO! Or even a ROLL Tide!!! (I have to meet the word requirement somehow right?)
Wonder if he is going to pitch today? Maybe Luis Mendoza is still having blister issues (wishful thinking probably!)
Oh, and did I mention that Bill White came in with bases loaded in the top of the 9th and struck out the side?
Is that 300 words yet?!?!?

Yep
Kudos for MJH for the succinct summary.

It's pretty cool to see all of those
winning pcts and know that they are largely a result of a lot of good prospects, not overaged players, etc.

In Arlington next year?
I’d expect him to come up sometime in 2009 if he keeps this up. He’s someone I really want to go see in Frisco this summer.

Hey Bev
Why is Rowe getting spot-started over Murray today? Agree with you about Jim Byers – he’s pretty good compared to most other minor league announcers.

No Clue...
I was in Frisco today so I didn’t listen to the game.

Why would Luis Mendoza...
...being unable to make a rehab start be a good thing?
by Adam J. Morris on May 18, 2008 11:17 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Well..
hopefully it’s just the blister, but yeah, I don’t really see that as good news.

I read somewhere
that he is not going to make a rehab start. (think he threw a bullpen session)

Didn't mean it like that...
I meant that maybe if Luis couldn’t start Tommy would start in his place. I wanted to see him pitch since I was at the game.

I went over during lunch and caught a few innings
Fastball mostly 90-91 touching up to 94, used most everything it looked like (though I wasn’t sitting directly behind the plate). Hunter is not going to dominate people, but he seems to have all of the makings of a sturdy back of the rotation type, and at the least he should be effective in the 6th and 7th innings. I don’t think that was a bad use of a pick in the 50s, especially considering his bonus and the boom/bust types taken ahead of him.
It is hot!

I saw the first 7 innings
damn hot, Deuce probably lost 10 pounds. Each of Hunter’s legs is bigger than Andrus. Hunter looks like a guy who will eat some innings but hitters will make contact. I had 86 pitches, about 62 for strikes, definitely not a nibbler.
Chris Davis’s HR went about 20 stories high and 400 feet long looked like. Ramirez looks cocky.

Yeah
Hunter definitely goes right after guys, which makes his decent strikeout totals more impressive.
I was not expecting the Ramirez HR to get out down the line, but I thought that it was interesting that he turned on one like that, given his reputation as a guy with RF power and up-the-middle approach.
Davis hit that towering ball, a double, and a shot up the middle, yet I found myself stuck on his bleh approach on his one out, where Garrison had him on a yo-yo by changing speeds. He is so talented, but I just still think that they need to beat a better approach into his head. Ramirez and Harrison are both more advanced than he is.
And speaking of that, I wonder what is in store for Harrison. I think that he might be a little too good for AA, and he’s old. But what would they do with him at AAA right now, especially if Boggs comes back down?

Davis
He seemed determing to swing at everything at times. I got to the park just in time to watch his batting session in the cage. He did not seem pleased even though he was smacking the hell out of the ball. I asked him what was up while he was giving a kid an autograph and he said he was just frustrated at some of his at bats the last couple of games.

What did MaxRam do...
to look cocky? Just his demeanor.
What other pitches does Hunter throw?

Tickets
Did the RRs have normal ticket prices for today’s game?

There were tons of kids out there today
with groups. Other than that I think it was normal pricing.

Yeah, hundreds of school kids
and I’m guessing that’s why I was subjected to Hannah Montana videos pregame.
BTW, Diamond was standing on the dugout steps during the national anthem.
