Marlins sign Ramirez to extension, Loria still a terrible owner...
The Marlins signed Hanley Ramirez to a 6 year, 70 million dollar deal...
this is surprising that they actually locked up a player, there fans shouldn't get used to it.
""""Asked whether he could see payroll doubling next season, Samson said, ``I would highly doubt it. We're not seeing the spike in attendance that we'd hope we'd see so far. . . . That would help. Our philosophy has not changed. We're always going to match payroll with revenue.'' """""
That comment comes off as very arrogant, if a team isn't going to spend more than 30 million a year, why the hell go to a crappy ballpark to watch them play?
Whenever I complain about Tom Hicks, I look over to teams situations such as this and become thankful...
The other thing is that the first thing after signing the contract, Ramirez ran over and bought a bentley...
So if you just signed a 70 million dollar contract, what is the first thing you would buy?

Two World Series trophies which is two more than the Rangers have. Maybe their fans shoud appriciate what they have and get off thier asses and go the their games.

FLA
Their two World Series Championships are kind of fluky. They’ve never won their division and twice rode the wave of a wildcard finish to the World Series. Once a team gets to the playoffs, there’s a good deal of randomness involved in which teams win those series.
I don’t know whether Loria is a good owner, he does seem stingy in regard to payroll. I don’t see Miami supporting a team in the long run.

Rangers
I wish the Rangers had two “fluky” World Series victories. Hell, it’d be nice to have a “fluky” postseason series victory.

Loria
2 WS does not make up for the fact that Loria is the worst owner ever. In fact, many people defend what he does because he is a “winner”. According to this article, the opening day payroll for the Marlins this season is $20 million. However, they received $25 million in revenue sharing. So before they sell a single ticket, Loria already made $5 million. TV rights, hot dogs, soda, tickets, and parking is 100% pure profit. The fact that Loria says that the “revenue” is not where he wants it to be is the biggest load of shit.
I can go on and on about my hatred of Loria (and then Selig must share some of the blame as he continued to allow Loria to remain an owner). If you want to see all of Loria’s misdeeds, just go Hardball Times and look for any article written by John Brattain.

Loria
Might be the #1 thing I despise in baseball. He milked his first franchise dry and he’s on his way to slowly killing another. It’s a shame this selfish owner has two WS rings.

Two rings?
I thought the Marlins first world series was won with Wayne Huzinga as owner – didn’t Loria join the Marlins around 2000?
I could be completely wrong though

I'm sure it costs money to use the stadium, pay the hot dog sellers, etc.
He certainly does make money, though, no doubt about it.

I never understood
Why MLB (Selig) gave Luria another franchise after he ruined the Expos, that was pretty dumb, they should have let him die in his own poop. Luria is a Blight on Baseball and should be disowned. He didn’t even pay for the Marlins.
