Community Projections - Summary / Comparisons

Okay, so we're about a quarter through the season, and I thought I'd better get the summaries and data up from the community projections.  I've also included, for reference, the projections from Bill James, CHONE, and ZIPS.  No outliers were removed except two from Jason Jennings' thread.

As I did last year, I've also provided standard deviations for our projections.  Standard deviation is a measure of a spread of values. Essentially, in a normal distribution, about 70% of the data points will be within 1 standard deviation from the mean. About 95% of the data points will lie within 2 standard deviations from the mean.  So a larger standard deviation indicates less consensus, smaller indicates more.

Tables and such after the jump...

James was a little off on Padilla

Can’t same I blame him, if I recall my prediction for him was rather conservative.

If anyone...

wants to go back and look at theirs or anyone else’s projections, here’s the link to all the threads…

You don't know yet

if James was off on Padilla.

It’s still conceivable he is right.

True

But outside of ERA, odds are against it.

Really good job on all of this Ben

Definitely got the hard work out of the way, averaging out the community projections, should be easy to update from here on out.

Look forward to reading more on this stuff.

I'm looking forward to

the end-of-season wrap-up and more references to the Van Der Slooting of the offense.

An offense with...

Josh Hamilton in it cannot be Van Der Slooted.

Thanks, Ben

Been looking forward to projections vs. actual.

Always good

At the end of the season it would also be fun to see “Closest to the Pin” for each player and “Way off Base Guesses” for the player. You know, list the five guesses by the five posters who hit the mark and missed the mark.

Way off Base...

Those will all be miles. Believe me, his posts in particular are fresh in my mind.

Very good to see

Laird besting his projections. Given how much offense is down in the AL so far, he is building value more than I expected.

...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.

thanks dude.
