German DFA'd
Kam Loe recalled, per the DMN. This is really kind of an odd move. German had not been pitching poorly, other than a few control issues. And, to the best of my knowledge Kam hasn't exactly been lighting things up at triple A OKC. The team obviously needs a fresh arm in the pen for the rest of this sreies, but this move is a touch baffling to say the least. We have 10 days to trade or release German.

strange move
maybe CJ just needed a friend right now.

sadly
that may be the accurate motive for this move.

one other thing
in Kam’s last ten AAA outings, spanning 16.1 innings, he has 13 Ks and 1 BB. I think JD is just fed up with walks from our pitching staff, and justifiably so. To be honest, in a late game situation, I have about the same faith in Kam and German, which is to say, not much. And I guess this opens a spot on the 40, which is neat.

Huh...
I don’t get this at all. Yes German is erratic but he has been effective at times.
I like Kam and all but what the hell has he done to deserve a call up? Why not bring up the Pirate?

As much as I despise wheelbarrel's inability to throw strikes
I don’t think this is the way to go (namely replacing him with Loe)

This is another move
that just makes you scratch your head. German isn’t much, but he has done well for the most part this year in the majors, while Loe has done poorly in the minors. I really wonder if the front office has any idea how to manage a 25- and 40-man roster.

No kidding.
He seemed pretty effective last night.
3.2 innings, two hits, one walk, and one strikeout.

Hrm...
I just noticed that he allowed two inherited runners to score. Maybe not.
by jwiscarson on May 21, 2008 4:45 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
That's been my knock on him all season
Looking here, as best as I can figure, he’s allowed 10 of 18 inherited runners to score. For comparison (from the same site), Benoit is 0/1, Fx2 is 2/5, Guardado is 0/2, Dusty Tits is 0/2, Rupe is 4/5 (not so good either), BGL is 1/1 and the Electrician is 2/17.
From looking at that, looks like the Electrician is the best fireman on the staff… he’s had one fewer inherited runner but allowed eight fewer to score.
by Inkara1 on May 21, 2008 4:57 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
That'd do it
At first I had no idea why the team did this, but allowing 10/18 makes it hard to keep him around when push comes to shove.

I suppose this decision also had something to do with coach/manager input. I know the numbers, I just think they may have seen something that we didn’t.

inherited runner scored
German has allowed 8 of 15 inherited runners to score this year. That is not good. You can’t judge relievers by their ERA. I think Loe was brought up solely because he hasn’t pitched since 5/18.

I doubt he’s going to be here for long. He’s basically a fresh arm, I think. I’m guessing he gets sent down to make room for A.J. Murray in a few days, and Mathis goes back to the pen.

Diamond
This opens a spot on the 40 man. Isn’t Diamond on the 60 day DL? He is about to come off that and be optioned to AA. You need a roster space in order to do that.
If Diamond is not on the 60 day then forget all this and imagine it never was written :)

Hey DShep
This gives you the opportunity to create a Rally Snake if Kam is pitching. Kam Loe’s got a boa constrictor named Angel. Maybe they can send it on this road trip for good luck.

he is known as snake boy
has his own cheering section up near section 321 the guy wraps rubber snakes all around the guard railing. He can be seen sometimes waving a big Texas flag. I am surprised that yall did not know about Angel being as you all know everything about everything concerning the Rangers.

Because you cannot
judge a relievers performane by looking at ERA. He let too many inherited runners score. Those runs didn’t get reflected in his ERA. I wonder if there is a stat that credits the run to the pitcher that is on the mound at the time the run is scored regardless of who allowed him to get on base.

What do you not understand?
A reliever with a 0.00 ERA that lets every inherited runner score is useless. He is not paid to have a low ERA, he is paid to not allow runners to score. He let a crap load of runners score, so he is now unemplyed.
by uthornfan on May 22, 2008 10:00 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
But those
runners were not on base because of his pitchers, he cleans up messes left behind.
If a reliever with a 0 era was put in with a clean slate, he would still have a 0 era.
Its hard to pitch when you come into the game already with runners.

That's kind of the job description
of most relievers that aren’t the closer. A lot of time the reason a pitcher comes in is because the pitcher in front of them is running out of gas and putting runners on.

like he was used as the mop the most though…

So you think
CJ Wilson would do a good job if he was put in situations where there were multiple base runners?
German was set up to fail, even really good pitchers wouldn’t be able to handle those situations perfectly.

No one is saying German had to be perfect
but he was among the worst, if not the worst, in letting inherited runners score. If a reliever can only pitch in non-pressure situations, he is completely useless. German let too many runs score, plain and simple.

See my post above
He is one of the very worst at letting inherited runners score. Every reliever faces this, he handles it worse than most.

FX2
In 2007 Francisco allowed only 3 of 44 inherited runners to score. In 2004 it was 5 of 28. The kob of as reliever is to not allow ANY baserunners to score. It does not matter whose era those runner get attributed to.
