Vincente Padilla
Should we trade him while he's hot and value is at it's high, or keep him? A pitcher of his caliber for the price we have him at is a steal considering the market today.....I know we're rebuilding, but when we start to turn it around in a couple of years, Padilla could be a hell of a #3 and by then his contract will probably be looking even better........
But if Padilla makes the all star team this year, would we be better off trading for a package of prospects? I guess it depends on the prospects, but a few prospects or a veteran all star pitcher? On a team that doesn't have an ace and besides him and Millwood don't have any reliable starters.....Also it depends on if you think Padilla is going to keep this up or if he's going to have another '07.....
It's not like Tex because Padilla is under contract for a couple more years(option) and SP's are a position of need, and a lot of other reasons....So we don't need to dump him, but if you were JD what would you do and if you want to trade him.....who would you trade him for? what package of prospects are we looking at?

I'm sure this will make me sound like I'm out of touch and am not the superfan I once was...
...and that would be mostly true. But does anyone know what Padilla changed his name to in the offseason? URL of the story, perhaps?

Jeez, Moto
How come you’re so out of touch and no longer the superfan you once were?
Here’s the link you requested, you out of touch non-super fan.

answer: i'm essentially running a startup, which takes up 80 hours a week
Guillermo de la Cruz. Awesome. Do we know at this point whether or not that was just a joke by Padilla?

Vicente
Not Vincente. Sorry, pet peeve of mine.
And as for your question… I’m of the opinion you should always be amenable to dealing someone if the right deal comes along. But for Vicente I’d only deal him if someone wants to blow me away.

I have floated
The Ian Kennedy and Austin Jackson package from the Yankees as one I would be amiable to. It would take a deal like that for me to trade him anytime soon.

I would stay away from Ian Kennedy and A. Jackson
Kennedy is a decent prospect with good control and so so stuff.. Austin Jackson has really only had a 300 AB span that is really considered above average.
I would take Jackson, but i would would prefer some of the Yankees lower level pitching prospects.

+1 on Kennedy
He doesn’t have that good of stuff so he has to be perfect with his control to be successful in the major leagues. He looks to me like the type of pitcher that will dominate every time he is in the minors, but will have more bad than good starts in the big leagues. Strictly a No. 5 guy.

But Padilla
had the season he had last year. It is a risk for risk trade. Before this year, Kennedy and Jackson were both considered top 50 prospects in baseball. I think I would still make that deal. Selling high, buying low.

One more thing
Kennedy is a guy that was rumored in a lot of big trades last year after he was very good in his first few MLB starts, but the story was that he was untouchable. It is looking like the Yankees missed their chance to trade him while his value was high.

The Yankees might be over
their “untouchable” phase, in light of their botched negotiations for Santana and their utter failure so far this year. I think it is time for people in that org to start thinking about saving their jobs.

I do to
but the problem is now Kennedy doesn’t have near the value that he did last year. It seemed last year the Yankees thought they should be able to get whoever they wanted at the deadline and only have to give up Clippard and Gardner.

Kennedy is interesting
He has a solid collection of pitches that he has historically been able to control very well. this year his control has betrayed him, and he has more walks than Ks at the ML level. Is that because he doesn’t trust his stuff and has to nibble the corners to get by? Or is he just a young pitcher (23) struggling to adjust to playing in the biggest market at the ML level?
Hard to say. If the Rangers decide he is not worth the risk, then, as you mentioned above, there are a number of intriguing young arms in their system to choose from. Still, this org has to want upper level talent. Our Clinton and Spokane rotations will be strong enough this year.

My guess is that he doesn't trust his stuff so he is nibbling
He seems like a pretty smart pitcher, so he knows that he isn’t going to be able to get away with mistake pitches like he can in AAA. So instead of going right after hitters, he is aiming six inches off the corner to prevent the ball from possibly being hit in the seats if he misses. He certainly has enough stuff to be a MLB starter if he can command his pitches, but time will tell if his control and command are actually good enough.

His fastball looks to be a weakness in TBiA
It’s 89 mph, good lateral movement but very little sink.
His curveball and slider commands seem really iffy. However, his changeup seems to be really good, which is probably his strikeout pitch.

Never trade good pitching.
Well, certainly not if you’re the Rangers.
