Tom Grieve to have prostate surgery

I will hold many good thoughts for one of the best men I have ever kinda known.

Here's the release from the Rangers ...
Tom Grieve, 60, who has served for 14 years as a Texas Rangers TV analyst after a long career as a player and member of the team's front office, announced today that he plans to be out of the broadcast booth for two to three weeks following prostate surgery on Monday, June 9. He will continue to broadcast through the Sunday, June 8, game against Tampa Bay at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

"Many men my age find themselves in this situation," Grieve said. "I am told the odds for a complete recovery are very good. I have complete confidence in my doctors, and have every expectation of being back in the booth two to three weeks after surgery. While I'm out, I'll be watching every inning of every game and hope we're in first place when I settle back in."

Victor Rojas, the Rangers radio analyst, will fill in for Grieve on television, joining Josh Lewin; and Steve Busby, the former major league pitcher who anchors the Rangers pre- and post-game TV programs, will join Eric Nadel in the radio booth.

Be well, Tom.

Grieve

Since debuting with the Senators in 1970, Grieve has been the Rangers organization almost every year since then. I think he was only away for two or three years at the end of his playing career. Whether it be as a general manager, announcer or player he has been one of the faces of the franchise. I don’t see how he is not in the hall of fame, since he has certainly done more for this organization than a lot of the people that are already inducted.

"certainly done more for this organization than a lot of the people that are already inducted"

I may have came off a bit harsh. I just think that someone like Grieve, who has put in almost four decades with the organization, deserves to be in the Hall. Grieve has never gotten the credit for building the teams that got us our three playoff appearances. Hopefully they will do the right thing and put him in this year.

Good luck

My dad is currently undergoing radiation for prostate cancer, prognosis is good. Hope Grieve is healthy and back quickly.

...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.

Encouragement

Get back soon, be well and whole. I’m always frightened for those who experience prostate difficulty. As well I should be.

I’ll pray for you to have a speedy recovery. In the meantime, screw Victor Rojas, I want Vince Cotroneo. He is with the A’s now and he was so good!

Get well soon TAG

Looking forward to next time, real soon, that we’ll get to hear another great rant from you….

we all see where this is headed

Something tells me that TAG is going to bitchslap this prostate issue like it’s name was Richie Sexson.

Tom will beat it

He’s the mainstay of Texas Rangers Baseball and I have no doubt he’ll be fine. Take care of yourself Tom and get healthy. I know I’ll miss you while you’re gone.

Go get 'em, TAG.

A true credit to the organization. Here’s to Richie Sexson charging the mound on the day TAG gets back fully healthy.

Grieve

while i don’t know the man personally, i just get the sense that he’s a real standup guy who says what he thinks.
as someone said he just seems like good people, and he’s going to beat this.

Good Luck

Hope you come back better than ever to call the next Rangers-Mariners brawl.

“Tom Grieve, what is your name?” Pretty lame story (probably told it like 3 times) but it’s still fun to listen to.

Tom Grieve = Great Guy

Spring Training in Port Charlotte, 1991. We “borrowed” a plaster armadillo from a front yard and took him from Dallas to Spring Training. “Jessup” was a trooper and he posed for pictures all over the South. State crossing, Civil War battle sites, etc. My favorite is of Tom Grieve holding him by the dugout after a game with this funny look on his face like, “I have better things to be doing than this, but these guys are great fans”. Jessup was returned to his home with a stack of pictures upon our return to Dallas. Good times!

Tom Grieve

Gonna miss that man while he’s gone. I never thought Rojas was all that bad, but in comparison to Grieve…well it’s not going to be as enjoyable to watch Rangers baseball. Hell, Tom Grieve IS Texas Rangers Baseball.

And he seems like a freakin’ great guy. So, Tom, if you’re reading this, best wishes.

For as much crap as Lewin and Grieve seem to take on this site..

I think it’s very classy that people are showing their support for his recovery.
