The real Juan Dominguez...
Thank you Mr. Santos for letting me share this story with everyone.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juan Dominguez was made out to be a immature player that was a major head case. The truth is that Juan was put into a situation to fail, he was put into a place where he knew nothing about. Juan doesn't speak English, which made him an outcast in the locker room, he had no one to communicate to.
It was publicly noted when Juan missed the team meeting, Juan felt like he wasn't part of the team in a way, he had a language barrier that kept him from building any relationships. He was late to a flight, yet no one was there to help him understand when it was time for the flight to leave.
Juan was on his own, he had to find his own way everywhere without any help from others. The one relationship he did have was with Brad Fullmer who was nice enough to drive him around. Juan suffered from depression that he dealt with by drinking heavily. That has changed now, he has seen help and is on medication.
Juan was set up to fail since he was born when his mother abandoned him to his grandfather.
His way of dealing with a bad day in Texas was buying a box of bears and coping with his problems. His agents and some family members took advantage of him. When he started making money, his family magically appeared along with various agents and took his money away. He was left in Texas with noone to bond with and to let out his problems.
Juan had to carry all of these problems on his back at his young age, while everyone was making him out to be a bad guy. He was misunderstood.
Pitching was the least of his problems.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juan went from 240 pounds to 205 pounds where he is at right now.
The Marlins have been scouting him in the DR
New pics coming soon.

didnt know he had a big drinking problem with the rangers
that trades makes even more sense knowing that.
anyway, interesting but hes still responsible for his behavior.
ill keep an eye on the situation, i do hope he finds his way back to the majors.

I miss a couple days

Not the only black poster on LSB.

Miles?
Is that you? This is like seeing Sharky present a nuanced assessment of the presidential race.
...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.
No joke...
where’s the “I’d bang her” or the “that’s what she said.”
Or how about “Eli sucks” and “The Celtics are overrated.”

Am I the only one who is skeptical...
...about this whole “Mr. Santos” character.
It's like going to a doctor who goes by his first name, i.e. Dr. Joe, or Dr. Bobby... it's just sketchy.
However, the unintentional comedy factor here is so far off the charts I really could care less.
He showed
me pics and a video…
He is legit.

Ill bet a lot of guys
show you pics and a video, trying to get you into the van.
Sharky said it, I believe it, that settles it
Dominguez
I always liked him. But it isn’t like he’s the first player ever not to speak English. No excuses there. And I’m pretty sure there were a number of Rangers who spoke Spanish when he was on the team.
Great stuff, though. Wouldn’t be shocked if he surfaced somewhere and had a couple of good years in a MLB bullpen.

Supposedly he has a thick country drawl
He was reportedly mocked a few times by Coco and some of the other Latinos, unfortunately.

No just that .
Dominguez can be a solid starter still if any team give to him a chance to play now he can do both , starter and releiver . he has all the stuff his arm is intact , look all the pitch that have quality all . the slider , sinker , change up , four seam fast ball everything working great his body in excellent shape everything works now.
Sure, sure
But I’m telling you right now…at this point in his career he’ll be lucky to get back to the big leagues, much less be a regular starter. I like the kid as I said, but that’s how I see the situation.

GREAT MILES.
Crow im leftie . Juan finish the practice that day , was the same day of the catcher glove.
hey I hear you man...
.... sorry to be a skeptic, but like I said… its kind of a weird place to try and force a comeback… if he can still throw the ball I’m totally all about bringing back some dominguez
we only wants to share the real life of Juan now
And what really happens when nobody knows who really are you.
Look we are dont trying to force nothing
Juan , dont like this kind of things cause he dont like to talk a lot like me.
Curious
I don’t know if Mr. Santos is above board or not. Although, that does matter, and coming onto a forum like LSB may be the available venue for someone who can’t get attention from an MLB front office (who can?).
But there is this: I’ve been to the Dominican. To San Pedro de Macoris, to La Romana, to Santo Domingo. And my daughter and son in law have been to every town and beach on the north shore. Where Juan is from, what we call “ordinary living” or even “basic civilization” is not even in the lexicon, much less the vocabulary.
Three “ifs”. If Juan has gotten his life straightened up, and IF he is again in baseball shape, and IF he has learned to harness and focus and choose when to use the better aspects of his fairly natural stuff … somebody would miss a windfall if they choose to ignore his desire to get back into baseball.

My Spanish
Is so bad that a Customs agent in Santo Domingo laughingly asked me to speak English please, he’d understand it better. It’s been several years ago, the first time in 1979. Took a bus junket from Santo Domingo to our destination for a lengthy stay at La Romana, and a day stop at San Pedro de Macoris was the first thing on the itinerary. The reason back then, was than currency exchange was more favorable at SPM than either the capitol, the airport, or at LaRomana (one touristy Cook’s counter). It was a good day, although we didn’t include seeing any baseball there.
Once at La Romana, saw several games in either of two leagues, traveled the SE shoreline and countryside, got locally acquainted, etc. Found interest in Altos de Chavon (before the 1990’s commercialization and updates), Isla Santa Catalina de Inez, etc. Our usual was to go “on the economy” and connect with locals, not stay within tourist accommodations etc.

Welcome again
Ed you are welcome to visit Dominican Republic again but we have more places than San Pedro And la Romana if you visit SAMANA is something great to visit and others sites like for example Santiago , La vega, Bonao , Mao from we born Dominguez and Me . The best chivo picante del mundo is overthere.
Mr. Santos just a question
Juan was at one point listed as Jose Dominguez and was listed as 2 years younger than his actual age. How is it that a player can willingly go by a different name. How did this error take place and how did Juan go as Jose from 1999 when he signed with texas until 2002 when it was only determined in post 9-11 checks?

Ok was a mistake
They have an error cause Jose Dominguez and Juan Dominguez was the same person well ,
The Name oof Jose Dominguez was changed to Juan Dominguez the real name and the real age but have an error with the birthplace Juan born In Valverde Mao , espefically in Esperanza they correct all like volquez. Juan was born 18 may of 1980 . clear
The Rangers
have a beautiful new baseball academy near San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic. See pics. It should be buzzing with activity now since 2 DSL teams full of Ranger prospects are preparing for the season which starts this Saturday.
Why not walk/bus/taxi Juan 2.0 over there this week and talk to the Rangers staff on hand? It seems like a good start to initiating communication with a MLB frachise.

What a joke
I was a Juan fan but this is a joke…The man can’t take any responsibility at all. If he was so incompetent in regard to the English language maybe he should have asked the Rangers to hire him an assistant to help him out…

Orel Hershiser (sp?)
My son had a long conversation with Orel a few years ago when he was pitching coach. He said that Juan came from the most unbelievably remote and primitive background; that coming to America and learning our way of doing things created an almost insurmountable cultural hurdle.
II Cor. 4:17-18
From anything I've heard, it's important
Juan is from Central-West Central Dominicana. Not just the fabled dirt floors etc, but more importantly a different culture and value system even within the country. Do you recall three years ago when it came out that other Dominican players couldn’t understand his speech? This may be a slight exaggeration, but how would you talk to a west central Louisiana Acadian, who can not communicate well in either English or French, and whose accent makes his patois gibberish even to Acadians from Lafayette, Bayou Teche, or other noted Cajun places?
We take a lot of ‘communication’ for granted

ok - El Duque
came to the US from Cuba…they had dirt floors in his house….He smiles & is not recluse. And holy s word…if Juan has talent, then someone will sign him. But if its talent he truly has, don’t count on the Rangers. We don’t sign good pitchers.

Dominican Scouts
The Dominican scouts dont have power for sign Dominguez they must call to somebody in USA.
mira...
I mean the teams are very open & friendly to those who don’t speak english very well. Just like not signing good pitchers, we aren’t very receptive, even at AAA, to those who can’t speak english at least a little, unless they are extremely niave and don’t realize that they will sign for a team who has no interest, in ever winning a pennant. Verdad?
