Hitting with RISP
Remember all the stories early in the season, all the comments about how the Rangers weren't clutch, can't get timely hits, etc. etc. etc.?
The Rangers currently have the highest OPS in the A.L. with runners in scoring position.
Not surprisingly, they are second in the A.L. in overall OPS (one point behind Boston).
As one would expect, their performance with RISP has evened out and is around where it is overall.
CORRECTION -- I was looking at the data for runners on base, not RISP. With RISP, they have the third highest team OPS (although it is still slightly higher than their overall OPS).

small sample size #s
Too many people see to love using small sample size numbers early in the year. Give most of them time and they will return toward median.
People miss baseball
and just want stuff to overreact to. It’s because baseball is a talking sport.
Sharky said it, I believe it, that settles it
132
total bases. Holy. Crap.
Can someone do the on-pace-for math for me? My head hurts.
I guess it was the beatings made me wise. But I'm not about to give thanks, or apologize.
if he plays 161 games
he’s on pace for 400 total bases.

thanks.
Mantle never sniffed 400 TB. Just sayin’.

on pace
dont know about total bases, but i will throw out some normal on pace numbers.
kinsler – 137 runs, 47 stolen bases, 100 rbi
hammy – 178 rbi
bradley – 109 walks, nearly 100 rbi and runs
murphy – 108 rbi, 15 stolen bases
if you project salty to start from this point forward he would still be on pace to end up with over 100 walks and 81 rbi.
Gerald Laird is my hero.
Salty's walk rate
is just unreal right now, over 20% of PA’s.
...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.
Think Grandpa Urine will write an article on it now?
Seems like RISP is dwelled on when it’s low, and ignored when it’s high.
Picking a random blog comment and wielding it as a club to bash "blogs" is like picking a random romance novel off an airport bookstore shelf and saying, "This book sucks. Fuck you, Tolstoy -- your medium is worthless!" - Ken Tremendous
Is there any doubt...
...that this resurgence is at least partially due to the DFAing of Broussard? That guy was so awful, he made the rest of the team play down to his level.
Fire Ron Washington…as GM.
Rangers > Nationals...for now
Thanks for the newsflash, scoop

Well,
I never thought I’d see an AROD quality player in this organization ever again, and he’s here…
Some More Progress
In addition to hitting with RISP, a lot was said of the poor defense. However, some progress is being made.
- Unearned runs – the Rangers still lead the AL with 38, the next closest team (Boston) has 24, and the league average is 19.
- Throwing Errors – the Rangers have 24 (most in the AL), the next closest team (Twins) has 21, and the league average is 15.
- Fielding Errors – the Rangers are tied for last place with the Mariners (21), the Tigers and the Royals have 20, the Twins have 19, and the league average is 16.
- RZR – the Rangers as a team are below league avearge (.816 vs. .827). The infield has the fifth best RZR in the AL (.792). The outfield, however, is the worst in the AL (.855, and the league average is .894).
