nolan ryan on the show
don't know if (m)any of you listen to dibble and kennedy on xm but i was in the car for 5 hrs today and caught the show...nolan ryan was a guest and kennedy was the only one in the studio to interview him...nothing earthshaking but i figured i'd post a couple of his thoughts concerning the state of the team
he loves hamilton - compared him to guys he saw break in the majors during his career and said that he is as complete a package as there is likening his talent level to ceaser cedeno, junior and bonds
loves him some murphy too
said that after increasing conditioning and workout programs for the pitchers in the minors he challenged them to go one extra inning in their starts because the more innings a guy gives the team the less the team has to rely on its bullpen which he hopes will allow the club to carry fewer relievers on the 25 man roster...also wants them throwing batting practice...and said that there are a few guys in A AA whom he expects to be in the big league in the next couple of years
also encouraged wash to implement fielding practice more often - both for the sake of having the team on the field together working and to stimulate fan interest at the park
and thad levine is a guest of buck martinez tomorrow on baseball a.m.
there - that's what he said

So uhhhh...
What???
He wants the young starters to go an extra inning so that they don’t have to carry as many relievers? Am I the only one that is going all WTF here?
I am not a fan of putting extra strain on a young arm. The last thing we need is arm fatigue and problems from our young guys. This is just ludicrous that he would say that.
I seriously don’t think Ryan knows how fragile young arms are, and we don’t need to be tiring these pitchers before they even step on a MLB field.
Ryan doesn’t understand how to run a organization, and it scares me that he is having this much influence over our farm system.
Just because someone is a great pitcher doesn’t make them a great teacher. He lucked out in career injuries but that doesn’t mean that these young guys will have the same luck.
Stick to the ole beef business Nolan

I'd be more interested to hear
what Levine says tomorrow.
Calm down, Miles. Challenging your pitcher to go an extra inning is not putting them at risk. He’s challenging them to be more effective and efficient as much as anything. I see nothing here to be upset about, but carry on with your righteous anger if it suits you.
...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.
