What are you going to do with your $129 k?

It’s like that recent episode of South Park. This blog is worth $129,000 theoretical dollars!

Get you some of that internet monies!

My thoughts exactly regarding the SouthPark episode. Adam may have to go on strike to collect though.

Was I missing something

or was Athletics Nation not even on the board? That site strikes me as being huge, I’m pretty shocked about that.

Confusing

When counting links, they must only count link exchange or permalinks, not those in posts or within content. Otherwise FJM would go sky high on that category alone.

Unsurprising overall, given the rating criteria. But nice rating, Adam.

Another shocking thing, to me at least...

is MLBtraderumors.com being valued that high. I really hate that site, but I guess it gets the traffic.

What's to hate about it?

Joe Morgan: (On Jay Bruce) I think he will. He brings energy to the team, and besides that, he is a pretty good hitter.
Ken Tremendous: I like that the #1 reason he will help his team is: "energy," and the distant #2 reason is: "ability to hit baseballs."

by TheBZA on May 29, 2008 3:37 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

mlbtraderumors

I feel like they’ve posted some pretty erroneous stuff in the past, without much to stand on. I know that’s the point of a site that discusses rumors, but I seem to recall them doing a little more than linking to beat-writers rumors, from time to time.
Another thing, I recall their writers being kind of jackasses… but I never read it consistently, and I haven’t even looked at it in a long time, so I don’t know if its better than my impression of it.
I know there are some other people here that don’t care for it, they might be able to say why too.

I see what you mean

I’m not so sure about erroneous, seeing that they cite their references. If they are merely speculating they will say so. But you’re right about mostly posting linking beat-writers. However, that’s incredibly helpful for me since I don’t subscribe to ESPN Insider, and I don’t feel the need to search Kansas City articles to see if the Royals are DFAing someone.

I’d at least suggest adding the site to your RSS Feed. I know I have mine on my tool bar so if I’m curious to see if there’s any big news I can merely skip the headlines in about 2 seconds. Of course, July 31st and FA is when the site becomes incredibly useful.

It's a fine site

Mainly all they do is provide a convenient collection of links to any and all trade rumors out there, with a little light discussion of said rumors.

Nothing wrong with that.

Give trade rumors credit

for cleaning up most of their act. The thing is, first impressions tend to last a very, very long time, not just with people but with websites. The traderumors site got off to an awful, awful start. Incorrect data, false rumors, poor emphasis on what might be likely and what might not, not particularly well edited, poorly confirmed attributions if confirmed at all.

Give them credit for correcting most of those faults, and for gaining readership. It was no doubt a steep hill to climb.

I forget when I first found the site.

I think it was around the trade deadline in 06. I don’t remember these errors so thanks for clarifying.

USS Mariner is 96th?

But Gaslamp Ball deserves to be on the last of any list…

Adam – This is a serious question: You said the other day that you don’t make any $$ off this site, yet it is pretty highly trafficked and of good quality with ads. Shouldn’t you be able to make some money off of it; or are you basically giving SBNation permission to use your content in exchange for taking care of all the fundamental infrastructure? Is someone else getting rich off of this, or is the internet really just a fun place where no serious money can be made?

I ask because I have a growing interest of how one can make money off of a blogging/daily update style website, and this is a well visited site, all things considered.

by JBImaknee on May 29, 2008 3:39 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I seem to remember

SBNation’s thing being that they share advertisement revenues with authors. But I don’t know if that is still the case.

If you were to sell this site, could you redeem your profit in the form of 1,296,960,000 SchruteBucks?
