Minors 5/29
I will put this up.
Chris Davis hit a HR in the game they finished up today which was canceled yesterday. He went 1-3 with a HR, SO, and BB.
Cruz hit a HR yesterday in that game. Teagarden has gone 2 games without a hit after he had 10+ game hitting streak.
Kiker is starting for BAK later tonight and Schlact will be going for Frisco.
Clinton game is delayed (dont know why). Feliz is scheduled to start that game.
OKC still has a 7 inning game to play.

Congrats to Chris
on what we all hope is the first of many HRs above AA ball.

if he turns into a

Have you ever looked
at Jim Thome’s minor league numbers?
Thome seem to develop HR power until later on, which surprised me. Also, I had completely forgotten that he oroginally came up to the bigs as a 3b. Seems weird to think about now.

I'm getting it
Slowly but surely. Cruz continues to hit dingers at OKC. And generally terrorize the PCL. In spite of my well known advocacy that he’s the best RH power bat in the entire system, and a pretty good RF’er with a cannon arm, he isn’t on the ‘move up’ list.
So here’s the value in that. All the Rangers’ MLB OF’ers are aware of what he’s doing. So the team, without even saying it, hints to them “do an awesome job out there and at the plate, or we’ll yank Nellie Cruz up here and give him your locker”. With that incentive, no wonder the OF takes turns at heroics and good defensive play!

Heh,
That was great, Ed. Maybe they can do the same with Tejeda?
...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.

Nellie
Ed, I’ve been hanging onto your evaluation of Nellie as my last hope that he can somehow reach into that big bag of potential and pull some results out. And once a spot opens up I hope he’s given one last shot. But there’s just no margin for error with him if/when that does happen and I hope he takes advantage of it.

Wow.
Today really sucks for milb Rangers edition. Clinton and OKC games are postponed. Was really looking to Feliz pitching but he will probably pitch tomorrow. Now I am looking forward to Kiker pitching tonight.

as great as last night was
tonight has been the opposite. Beyond the Davis HR, there have been no bright spots. Kiker does not look like a stud tonight.

Matt Harrison
So he’s at 40 IP, has a 2 to 1 K to BB ratio and has a no-hitter to his name. What is the threshold to reach for him to advance to AAA? 60 IP with similar performances? More? Less?
Oh and Kiker’s in trouble already in the 1st…C’mon Kasey!

Harrison
I think he will be promoted shortly. By the Rangers sending down Loe instead of Mathis and Nippert coming off rehab assignment in the next couple weeks if not sooner there should be a rotation spot open for him. It also looks like Diamond will be able to slide right into his spot in the rotation when he officially comes off rehab assignment

Harrison
Isn’t a real efficient pitcher, I’ve noticed. He’s averaging 17 pitches per inning and has made it out of the sixth just once this year. Even in his 7-frame no-hitter, he averaged 17.1 pitches per inning. He’s another guy who could be a real drain on a bullpen someday.

I've heard
that some of Eric Hurley’s earlier struggles could be attributed to his trying to add a change-up to his repertoire, and that he has now dropped the change-up in favor of a splitter. Can anyone confirm this? And if so, do you know of any similar cases with other pitchers within the organization?

Hurley
Travis Buck is a believer.
Also, apparently yes Hurley has scratched his CU for a SPL.

He throws the "Vulcan" change.
It’s a split finger change up.

NoNameOnCard
He does not throw a vulcan change, He has not thrown this for weeks. You can see this when he receives the ball back from the catcher.

I was checking some stats and I saw this:
Home – avg: .200/ obp: .250/ slg: .450 - 40 AB’s.
Road – avg: .391/ obp: .435/ slg: . 594 - 64 AB’s.
That is a drastic difference between in average and on-base percentage at home and road.

Better that he’s more effective on the road, yeah? The road is a bunch of stadia, and home is just one.
When he reaches the Majors this year, I’ll be less worried about the home numbers…
