Hamilton is AL Player of the Month
To review his month:
• 32 RBIs, most in the majors and tied for the third most in April by any player in history
• Also led all AL players in total bases (68), extra base hits (17), and hits (38) by month's end, ranking among league leaders in average (4th, .330), slugging (5th, .591), and doubles (T3rd, 10)
• Oh, and he made more than a few nice plays in the outfield too
• He's the first Rangers player to win the award since Mark Teixeira in July 2004 and the first outfielder in more than 10 years (Juan Gonzalez, Sept. 1997)

It never even occured to me
that he tied ARod’s RBI record for April. Wow.

Oops
SBN doesn’t like Opera, evidently. Once I posted with block quotes, I couldn’t add any other text.

Common Knowledge
that I’m not a fan of Daniels, but his acquisition of Josh Hamilton was absolutely an outstanding move.
I'd rather be Blind, Crippled, & Crazy...than listen to the irrelevant, puerile rants of...well, we all know their names.

well
at least nobody can say you are completely bias.
actually there was a post on the DMN blog (terrible place btw) where a guy insisted that it was a bad trade because Hamilton could have been had for Benoit.

and that same guy
would be ballistic right now if we had made that trade and Benoit was pitching lights out. He would then be complaining that we could have had Hamilton for Volquez.

Never had a problem
with that trade. Don’t like giving up pitching, but Volquez wasn’t pitching well, and Hamilton had a huge, huge upside…which fortunately panned-out this time…so it was a good trade. I know the purist likes to judge trades at the time they’re made, but the eventual benefits based on future play is the bottom-line criteria. Unfair…but ain’t that life?

I will go on the record and say
that previously this trade was regarded by many as an A+ trade last month and I said I don’t know yet… based upon the fact that we don’t know exactly how good both players will be (though they’re both looking great) and that was April (at the time) of the first year. I still think that if both players produce at All-Star calibur levels, it’ll be tough to call it an A+ trade because good starting pitching is very hard to find. However, that’s not to say it would be anything less than a good trade for the Rangers because they filled a major void in CF with a top player.
I love the Ham sandwich and I’m VERY glad he’s a Ranger. However…. starting pitching, if Volquez is a star, is so tough to find and develop, and it will kill me if we add him to the list of pitchers who have skipped town and succeeded elsewhere. We won’t know until the end of the year if he’s arguably legit, so I don’t think anyone can decisively grade the trade right now.

Volquez
walking a batter every 2 IP, fwiw. I think he’ll regress to a 2 or 3. Even then, great trade.

Actually it's not a bad idea
to have your best hitter there, if you read the studies about lineup optimization. But I’m pretty sure Wash hasn’t read those.

The dude is good
Josh Hamilton is the number one reason that Ranger games are fun for me to watch again this year. Nothing like having a superstar who actually looks like he enjoys playing for your team. Its been a long time that we’ve had that.
Hope he keeps it up.

I can't imagine...
how bad this team would be, and how bad their record would be, without Hamslam.
He was a absolute Beast in April. Let’s hope it continues all year long. Damn it has been fun to watch him hit and play D so far this year.

Hamilton's middle name is "Holt"
I think “Jolt” is probably in the top 5 nicknames we could give him.

Congrats to Hamilton
He is really an awesome talent. Sometimes I think he’s so good, even the people who like him a lot (like me) underestimate him.
He won’t keep up this pace for the rest of the season, but even a month where he does half of what he did in April is going to be good. I have no regrets about giving up Volquez for him whatsoever – and the people who whine about that trade need to shut the hell up.

PS
Can we get some recs for this post, so it’ll stick at the top of the fanpost page for awhile? If there was ever something I’d want at this top, this is it.
Bragging rights, folks!

From the start I thought this was an excellent acquisition
by the Rangers. I doubt he’ll sustain the same production throughout the year, but he’s still most definitely a top tier talent.
