Casey Kotchman?
Is that a joke?

he has
been the best first baseman in the AL to now

+1
I don’t vote this early, but I have spent time looking at who I would vote for. Kotchman is one of the easier choices.

I don't care what he's hitting
I never vote for an Angel player. EVER.

Yup
He’s giving us a good preview of what we’ll be getting in ‘10 from the Hoss.

I put who I'd probably vote for down on my message board the other day.
At this point in the season, some positions are so close and the sample sizes are so small, things can change nightly. This is about four days old, so I can’t guarantee I’d stand by it, but:
AL
C A.J. Pierzynski
1B Casey Kotchman
2B Dustin Pedroia
3B Adrian Beltre
SS Michael Young (And I’m amazed that that’s not a biased pick.)
OF Josh Hamilton
OF Manny Ramirez
OF Eric Hinske
DH Milton Bradley
NL
C Geovany Soto
1B Albert Pujols
2B Chase Utley
3B Chipper Jones
SS Rafael Furcal
OF Pat Burrell
OF Nate McLouth
OF Josh Willingham
I actually had Hideki Matsui at DH, but I decided to give Bradley the edge in a close race here because he’s a Ranger. That counts for a lot.

Fuck what does it matter anyways
They carpet the parking lot with ballots at Yankee Stadium. Jeter is in, no matter what.

As of right now...
Young should be SS
Kinsler is a cloooose 2nd behind Pedroia
and Hamilton is a no brainer. Not really bad. I’m willing to bet if Hank didn’t get hurt, he’d be there too.
by cmkelly29 on May 4, 2008 5:07 AM CDT 0 recs
Chances are
the Rangers could have Young, Kinsler, Bradley, Hamilton, and Wilson as reps.

Mine will fluctuate as the season goes on
But I’ll give you mine from my first vote.
Note: I NEVER vote for an Angel, and I try never to vote for a Yankee or a Red Sox either, unless I think they really, really deserve it. Those guys will get plenty of votes, they don’t need mine. Oh, and I’m not voting for Mark Teixeira. Ever. In other words, yes, I’m a very prejudiced voter. Deal with it.

The MLB All-Star game is the only All-Star game where I actually try and vote reasonably.
As in: no bias. Partly because it makes for good discussion, partly because it’s so much easier to be objective about and have a good judgement of the production of players in baseball than it is any other sport, and partly because I do actually care some about the contest.
The Pro Bowl is worthless, I just vote for all Cowboys.

Well
I really hate the Angels. ABout the only guy on that team that I would even consider for voting for is Kotchman, but… still. As for the Yanks/BoSox, I just don’t vote for their guys most of the time because I already know they’re fair bets to get in no matter what. I’d rather try to back the guys that have to beat out the superstars from Boston/NYY.
It’s not that I consider the All-Star game worthless or something, but I do tend to vote for who I would like to see there (or not see there) as a fan. I do try to consider the current stats, as well as the production from last season in most cases, but I vote for who I like if at all reasonably possible.

Russ Martin huh?
I would think Soto, McCann, and Doumit are all better options for NL Catcher

Don't know why I voted Kurt Suzuki...
Lost my brain on that one.
2008 AL Catcher ranks, by my count
1. Joe Mauer, MINN
2. A.J. Pierzynski, CWS
3. Gerald Laird, TEX (No lie)
4. Mike Napoli, LAA
5. Kurt Suzuki, OAK
By my estimation, Salty will probably end up the #2 by years end.

I'm also going back to what he did last season
Overall, I think Martin has the best skill set of any catcher in baseball. That’s why I picked him.

He's certainly getting on base and scoring...
Lack of HR’s and RBI’s hurts him in a pretty deep NL catcher crop this year though. Soto has been the man.

What I think is interesting. . .
. . . is that, if the season keeps going the way it’s going, Soto, as a rookie, could well deserve both a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger, and even if that holds up he might not even be the best rookie on his own team.
Craziness!
