confidence

I think the way this club has played the last month and especially the last road trip facing some of the pitchers they faced their confidence is fine right now. Millwood returning to his beginning of the year form would only help this club out.

the offense's confidence should be fine

but we are last or next to last in every pitching category.

Line-up

Kinsler, 2B
Young, SS
Hamilton, CF
Bradley, RF
Murphy, LF
Laird, C
Catalanotto, DH
Shelton, 1B
Vazquez, 3B

Good to see MOB in RF.

by coolaid on May 30, 2008 6:38 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I knew that line-up

was too good to be true. The real line-up:

1. Ian Kinsler
2. Frank Catalanotto
3. Michael Young
4. Josh Hamilton
5. David Murphy
6. Gerald Laird
7. Brandon Boggs
8. Chris Shelton
9. Ramon Vazquez

Volquez against the Braves

6 IP, 5 hits, 2 ER, 3 BBs, 7 Ks, 102 pitches

Dusty sent him out in the 7th inning with 100 pitches and he gave up a double to the first batter which sent him out of the game and that batter later came around to score on a DP. Dusty is going to kill Edinson’s career.

but why is there a problem with not liking attempting bunt hits unless its a guy who has had legitimate success doing it? like laird. i dont complain when he tries it.

I think it is dumb...

...to bitch about a guy like Vazquez trying to bunt for a hit.

And there was bitching a couple of days ago when Kinsler tried to bunt for a hit with a runner on second and one out, with proclamations that this was Ron Washington’s stupidity for trying to bunt a runner over to third with one out already in place.

Bitch about sac bunts. That’s fine.

Complaining about guys occasionally trying to bunt for a hit, and saying it is the pernicious influence of bunt-loving Ron Washington, is silly.

Oh, and Kinsler bunting for a hit with a runner on second and one out was stupid

IMO, bunting for hits should be reserved for guys like Laird or Vazquez, and reserved for occasions when there are no RISP.

A Lonestar in California - 2.0

"I LOVE to fart" - Bert Blyleven

by lonestarJon on May 30, 2008 8:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Because Kinsler is a good hitter

And when you’ve got a RISP, the objective is supposed to be to plate him, not to simply get on base yourself.

Should players try to

...avoid walking with RISP?

by Adam J. Morris on May 30, 2008 8:39 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bunting for a hit

Is not, in any way, similar to walking.

Walking with RISP involves laying of pitches that are not hittable. Bunting for a hit involves trying to lay down a perfect bunt, and taking a strike, or being thrown out if you fail. It’s risky, and is most of the time going to be a waste of an out.

To conclude: it’s stupid to bunt for a hit with a man on second and one out. Nobody out, well, maybe I could see that. But with one out, no way.

Personally

I have no problem with bunting for a hit most of the time and don’t blame Washington for that. I just don’t think Vazquez trying to bunt for a hit there is the right move. I think Vazquez has been doing a good job of hitting recently and that they should try riding that as much as they can

by Gdawg on May 30, 2008 8:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

That was all Vazquez there

Did you see when he was walking back to the dugout he looked to me like he said “I saw something” to the 1B coach. He probably saw the 3B playing back and has been told, like others, that if you think you can do it go ahead.

I agree he has been our hottest hitter so he shouldn’t have been doing it but if it was his call there really is nothing to get upset about
