Elvis has left the building
Per Evan Grant, Elvis Andrus has a broken finger and will miss the next three weeks or so.
Bah.

Shit...
Well that sucks. I knew he missed the last couple games but wasn’t sure why. It always sucks to see prospects miss time with an injury.

talk about
pissing in my Cheerio’s this morning. ..
in house replacement while he’s out (Ragsdale?) or could we possibly see Mr. OBP Machine, Marcus Lemon? That couldn’t happen, could it? Could it?
by Hypo-Luxa on May 31, 2008 11:43 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Lemon
Thought of that too, but he truly need more time in A+.
But Jose Vallejo…would it disrupt him or the team if he filled in at SS, then slid over to 2B when Elvis comes back?

Wouldn't mind seeing Lemon for 3 weeks
he can go right back to BAK later if he needs to.

Are the Rangers
leading the majors in DL time?
...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.

Vallejo
I think this is a good time for Vallejo to come up, with Ragsdale playing short. He is a couple of years older than Lemon and has had a breakout couple of months. Let’s see if that newfound power is legit…
Also, It seems to me like this might be a good time to shift all the pitchers from yesterday up a level. Feliz to BAK, Hyatt to Frisco, and Harrison to OKC.
by clark on May 31, 2008 12:24 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Osuna can jump up to BAK to take Vallejo's place
It is probably also time to see what Borbon can do in Frisco. Mehl can handle CF for BAK and Moreland can move up when Paisano or Santana come off the DL for Clinton.

Whats up with the Rangers
having a severe case of vaginitus lately.
Snap that back in place or cut it off, and get your ass back in the game.

Casey Benjamin was sent down...
He’s been with Frisco for at least 2 days already. As of yesterday, it looked like Ragsdale, Berkery, and Benjamin were going to work some sort of rotation through 2B/SS. When Ramirez plays 1B, Fox is an option at 2B as well.
I don’t think anyone is going to be called up, but I wouldn’t bet against it.
by NoNameOnCard on May 31, 2008 1:56 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
that figures
the rangers are so conservative with their player promotions. they would rather demote than promote this early in the year.
by clark on May 31, 2008 2:16 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
ehh
Lemon is still extremely young and has little to no power and if Vallejo had been on his hot streak in May instead of April then I think he would have gotten the call. There really was nobody forcing their way up the ladder right now and with it being only 3 weeks this move makes sense
by bigsteve on May 31, 2008 2:20 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Really?
The season’s eight weeks old and Texas has already promoted Teagarden, Mayberry, Madrigal, Davis, Hunter, Laughter, Reed, Sattler, and Lueke. And Beavan never pitched a minute of short-season ball. And Andrus and Beltre are the youngest players in their respective leagues. And Boggs, Duran and Mathis have already made their MLB debuts.
I wouldn’t call that conservative.

G'agree!
In years past we all lamented the lack of promotions…maybe the players we considered prospects were more suspects.
I feel like OAK or something with all these young guys coming up and having an impact. Are they all world-beaters the day the take the field at TBiA, no. But, they come up, perform a bit, learn a ton, and are much better prepared to survive in MLB when they get their next shot.

Though
In fairness, he was talking about a degree.
by brettgardner on May 31, 2008 6:08 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Why can't you let me complain
without throwing facts back in my face.
The thing is, most of those players were old for their level when the year began. Mayberry and Teagarden have ‘83 birthdays, so they should probably be in AAA. Many of the rest are bullpen arms. Reed and Teagarden were advanced college pitchers. The only one that seemed aggressive in the least was Madrigal because he had not pitched at AA before this year, but still, AAA is age appropriate for him. I have no idea what Gac is still doing in Clinton, and I am anxious to see what Borbon does in AA and what Harrison does in AAA. But you are right, they have promoted more aggressively than in years past.

That sucks
but stuff happens. Hopefully it won’t derail his progress too much. You would hate for this to be a lingering thing…

broken fingers
I am surprised that there are not more broken fingers in baseball given the chances they have to field hard hit balls.

Especially catchers
Better protected now than “back then”, but two in my family caught. One was 5’10 and about 180, the other 6’5 and around 320. Both had gnarled fingers they couldn’t point with or straighten up.

FWIW I'm the shortest and smallest in my generation
And Hal Davies catching, was pretty immovable. He ran at about the same speed a glacier moves, though. The other one (5’10) was an inlaw.

The worst part about all this
Is that Michael Young is off somewhere laughing like a hyena right now regarding the suggestions that he move to third base.
Seriously though… didn’t Elvis have a finger problem this spring? Is it the same finger? I sure hope this doesn’t turn into a lingering thing, making Elvis the new Arias, as Miles has been predicting…

I’ve just never quite seen the fascination with him. Of course I still think that Ramon Vazquez sucks, so maybe it’s just me.

Nah
I think Vazquez sucks too. He’ll fall back to earth eventually.

that sucks...
not sure if I witnessed it or if he was just testing it out, but I was at the game Friday right next to him while he was taking batting practice in the cages and then didn’t end up playing in the game. I was pretty disappointed, but got to see Max-Ram do his thing, and Harrison – despite the 10 hits, looked very good
