I just noticed something
Somebody recommended the previous gameday thread.
Odd.

Not that I’m guilty of said sin, but I found it a particularly amusing thread, just browsing through it.
There’s really some quality material in there—punctuated by DShep’s timing with the H-Bomb, imo.

I didn't say there wasn't, I'm just saying...
Gameday threads don’t usally get reccomended, at least that I’ve seen.

*Shrug*
Don’t know. After the first ones get closed, I’m usually afraid to open them due to how big they are.

I’m afraid that wouldn’t make my computer any faster… I need more memory in it. Got it bogged down with too many danged photos and old school projects and crap.

hmmm
there’s a couple of great guys there, but everyone is either too spendy, or they’ll ask for too much.
They’re really in a bad place right now.
I would take Granderson
I doubt they would give him up though.

If they did
They’d probably want a Tex-like package in return.

I think Bonderman...
...could be someone they’d shop, and could be someone the Rangers would go hard after.

Bonderman
I’ve heard mixed opinions about him. He’s got #1 starter stuff, but has never seemed to be able to realize it… what do you think DET would want, and what do you think TEX would be willing to give up, AJM?

way less than they'd ask for
probably.
I really hope the Tigers get back into this thing. BEcause they’re the one team that HAS to make a deal.
I don't know
It is hard to say. Bonderman is an enigma.

Josh reading LSB during broadcast?
He just talked about Detroit’s situation extremely randomly.

Bonderman would be a great addition
Obviously, he will cost a decent amount in terms of prospects. Nevertheless, I think he might be the kind of player the Rangers would want to target at the deadline. It is kind of unclear whether the Rangers will be contenders or not this season. Let’s say the Rangers are around .500 in late July and sit about 6 games behind the Angels. I doubt Daniels will want to pack it up and sell off any of your top players like Padilla or Bradley. At the same time, I doubt they will want to give up a a couple solid prospects for a rent-a-player in a season where they are on the fringes of contention.
Bonderman isn’t a free agent until after 2010. If you add him in July, you control him for the rest of 2008 and all of 2009 and 2010. He has number 1 potential. Nevertheless, even if he doesn’t live up to his potential, he could still eat some innings and help the Rangers stay competitive. A rotation of Padilla, Millwood, Bonderman, Feldman, and McCarthy next season has some high upside guys and some guys at the top who can eat innings.
Bonderman also wouldn’t be blocking any premier young pitchers. It seems the highest ceiling players (Beavan, Main, Feliz, etc) are in A ball.
Would I give up a Tex-type package for Bonderman? No. But would I give up something pretty substantial? Definitely.

That would seem to be a caught stealing attempt from Kinsler’s perspective, but if it’s not, awesome.

I don't think that ends his streak
It’s just a pickoff, yes? And he’s been picked off before this year too, I think.
A Lonestar in California - 2.0
"I LOVE to fart" - Bert Blyleven
well i hope it doesnt
i just remember some people talking about that 2 of someones 3 caught stealings this year were pickoffs. maybe they were wrong.
Gerald Laird is my hero.
If the runner breaks for 2nd...
...then it is a caught stealing.
I think if the runner gets tagged trying to get back to first, it isn’t.
by Adam J. Morris on May 31, 2008 9:25 PM CDT up reply actions
*Cough cough*
How do we determine intent?
"Chase. Dominguez is not really your liking" - Mr Santos
by inactive lsb user on May 31, 2008 9:26 PM CDT up reply actions
It isn't intent
It is what the runner does. Kinsler didn’t break towards second, he tried to get back to first.
If the pitcher had thrown the ball to first and Kinsler had broken to second, and gotten tagged out there (or gotten into a rundown), then it is a caught stealing.
by Adam J. Morris on May 31, 2008 9:28 PM CDT up reply actions
Ambiguity
Some guys lean to 2nd anyway in their leadoff motion, so how would you know if he had turned or not to break for 2B?
Like, for instance, if he flinched, while facing 2B, but then dove back to 1B. He wouldn’t have “broke” for 2B, he just flinched from his leadoff position.
"Chase. Dominguez is not really your liking" - Mr Santos
by inactive lsb user on May 31, 2008 9:30 PM CDT up reply actions
What is defined as
“breaking for 2nd?” is my question, basically. Is this at the 1B umpire’s discretion, judgment call wise?
"Chase. Dominguez is not really your liking" - Mr Santos
by inactive lsb user on May 31, 2008 9:32 PM CDT up reply actions
No
If the runner dives back to first, it is a pickoff.
If he goes to second and is out there, it is a caught stealing.
by Adam J. Morris on May 31, 2008 9:33 PM CDT up reply actions
It is a matter of where the out took place?
"Chase. Dominguez is not really your liking" - Mr Santos
by inactive lsb user on May 31, 2008 9:36 PM CDT up reply actions
Do you see what I'm saying?
What if the runner actually “broke” to 2B for one second or two, turned right back and dove into 1B, and got tagged out, irregardless of what transpired with the baseball (whether the catcher or pitcher or MIF threw him out at 1B)?
Is that a caught stealing?
CS and PO are mutually exclusive events, I’m assuming is the point you’re making.

Great way to end the month of May
1 game over .500, like 1 or 1.5 games back of second place in the division and possibly 3 GB of 1st place. SP has looked good to begin the month and end the month. The bullpen seems to be back. The offense is amazing. Its actually fun rooting for the Rangers now.
Half game back of 2nd now...
