John Mayberry Jr.
He's hot - that's all there is to it... but is it just a streak?
Obviously, JMJ won't continue batting .480/.519/.840 (1 K in 25 AB!! prior to todays game), but is he finally realizing the potential the scouts have been talking about for years?
BTW - he went 5 for 5 with a double and triple on Friday and he's got 2 of the R'Hawks 6 hits including a double today...

Here's a question
are you allowed to fault a guy for having an OBP only 39 points higher than his BA if he’s batting almost .500?

Barring any major injuries
If we’re way out of contention by the ASB and Boggs continues to hit, is there really any reason Byrd should be in the system afterwards? If Bradley can get a nice haul by that point, do you trade him or extend him?

Bradley...
That’s a very good question, and one that has been thrown around on this board.
Obviously it depends on what you can get in return/how much it would cost to extend him.
He may be a player that you can get prime production out of for a discouted price due to his injury/emotional history. Even when re-building (building), you can’t go young at every position. If you could extend him for 3/21-24or so, I think you’d have to entertain that. On the flip side, if you can get a high ceiling legit SP prospect, you’d have to seriously consider that as well. Our System suddenly looks like it has some OFers who can play. Hamilton is locked in, and with Murphy, Boggs, and now Mayberry, things may be starting to get a little crowded out there.

As much as I love what he's done
You can’t depend on Milton Bradley. He’s injury-prone and volatile. The guy’s recorded 400 or more ABs in only 1 season. That’s a scary number. The way he’s performing, the Rangers should be able to get a bigger haul for him than they got for Lofton last season. If that’s offered, I think JD would have to strongly consider it.

www.mlbtraderumors.com has something
up about Bradley and Padilla per Peter Gammons. Interesting stuff about what the Rangers wanted for Padilla from the Mets.

Damn
There’s JD aiming high. If he could’ve pulled that one out he would have really cleaned up.

No shit
I do like it when he aims high though. On the other hand he should have pulled the trigger on Byrd though. Now it he can get Gallagher for Bradley that would be great.

What'd he ask for?
What did it say? I don’t have insider. Details, please.

The site says
Deolis Guerra, Mike Pelfrey and Heilman.
And I don’t have Insider either…it was mlbtraderumors, not ESPN. :)

lol
Wowzers. I’m all for aiming high, but that’s borderline insulting… in fact it’s to the point where I have to wonder how much truth there is to that. I mean I’m not a big Pelfrey believer, but, sheesh.

The funny thing
as I read that, I looked at the ESPN bottom line. Lou Piniella got his man. Greg Norton was just acquired by the Cubs.

Braves, not Cubs
Braves acquired first baseman-outfielder Greg Norton from the Mariners for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Norton, who was designated for assignment by the Mariners last month, will serve primarily as a pinch-hitter for Atlanta, giving him no fantasy value.

Huh, I thought it said Cubs
oh well, heh.

I trade him
Milton is the Crazy, but Hot chick. One night stands are great, Marriage, not so much.
Between injuries and temperment, I think signing a long term contract with him will be padillaesque. You will see great play, you will see DL time, you will see insanity. Move him, hope you get some top notch prospect, then sign next years talented but troubled player, rinse, repeat.

Going to be one less suitor for Bradley now...
Jacque Jones has apparently been released by Detroit.
by cmkelly29 on May 5, 2008 4:38 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Maybe saying
whoever signs Jones wouldn’t be interested in Bradley, but that’s still a longshot.
by venturafearsnolan on May 5, 2008 6:51 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
One less
With Granderson already being hurt this year, and Magglio being injury-prone, I don’t think they chance it on Bradley.

Also
I mean does Detroit have any big prospects left?
It seems like they traded away everybody this off-season

Some Pocello guy
but if they’re interested in dealing him for Bradley, they’re officially crazy.

Detroit wants
to win this year. If their bats continue to struggle against everyone except the Rangers, they may be willing to acquire Bradley.

question....royals fan here...
who played baseball in HS with John Mayberry Jr. and Steve Murphy who is mashing in AA for you guys. I was just curious what your expectations are for Mayberry long term and if theres any shot at Murphy ever contributing. Mayberry has shown very good power in his minor league career with a ton of Ks and low OBPs. How is his defense in the OF? He was always crazy athletic and had a great arm. Crazy as it is, I always thought that Steve Murphy was the better player in high school…had every tool you could think of in the OF. Just interested in your thoughts as rangers fans

I'm not too hopeful
that either will be impact players, though both might see a little time in the majors at some point.
