The definition of a slump

Cristian Santana was garnering a lot of attention amongst Rangers fans with his hot start for Clinton...but in glancing at the box score last night, I saw he was hitting near the bottom of the order and his average had plummeted.

Went and check...over the past 10 games, Santana is just 5 for his last 39, with 22 strikeouts. Yeesh. And he only has 3 walks in that span (although 3 of his 5 hits are for extra bases).

That's a slump.

Some discussion with others a while back (I think Shroom was involved)

suggested Santana has the following problem: “Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.”

40% K rate

definitely not good. The opposite of what we’ve seen from Beltre and Andrus so far this year as younger players holding their own against older competition. He started out hitting ok but with K’s; now we just have the K’s.

...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.

Isn't that slump

starting its 2nd year? I just remember seeing him last year, and it almost looked like he was getting a potbelly.

I remember reading....

Sometime this offseason he was getting damn near 300 lbs. ESPN has him listed at 240 but that seems a little generous.

At his age, playing in full-season ball and considering his hot start, I think it’s realistic he’ll adjust and be back on track. This slump will be educational.

Also can’t hurt that he got today off.
